Weirdly, this just makes me want to listen to the full-length You Can Dance Version (but perhaps that's the idea).

Whatever the case, I'm ordering the 3-disc version of the new compilation on which this appears. It'll be great to have some new edits of favourite mixes, plus a heap of other tracks.

And the cover is gorgeous...

While this is terrific news, I'm a little disappointed at the same time. I read Madonna was releasing all her back catalogue as double and possibly treble albums with new mixes and songs that failed to make the final cut for each album. This feels like it would come at the end of those releases. That and I'm not sure if it's getting a vinyl release. I hope I'm wrong.

But, all my moans to one side, this is very exciting at the same time.

Yes, I know what you're mean. After the news about individual album releases this is a bit of an anti-climax. The fact that there are "2022 remasters" suggests her catalogue has been revisited, so this could be a marketing thing with the albums to follow later. The comp isn't out until August so I'll probably cancel my pre-order if any expanded studio albums are on the horizon before then.

Ahh.... There is a vinyl release on its way.

There was also a very expensive six LP box on the official Madge store but it appears to be sold out. I wouldn't be surprised if places like HMV and Zavvi have their own editions with coloured vinyl and whatnot.

Same, although for different reasons. There are exceptions, but as a rule I don't like remixes; they're usually over-produced and interminably long.

As such, this collection doesn't hold much interest for me. I might pick up the vinyl release if it's reasonably priced, but otherwise this looks like something I'd give a single listen to on Spotify. I'll hold out for the hopeful remastered rereleases of her albums, which hopefully won't be mucked around with too much.

I'm really pleased that the track selection - the '50 Numbers Ones' one - doesn't just stick with the obvious crowd pleasers. She's also included the infamous American Pie (which I quite like), the equally unpopular Die Another Day (which I really like), as well as stuff from her most recent albums (which only she and I seem to like).

This one interests me a little because, like The Immaculate Collection, the remixes mostly seem to be standard-length edits rather than the full-length versions, but I appreciate that won't make them any less over-produced (quite the opposite, probably).

Mind you, after a couple of listens the edit of Into The Groove just doesn't sound as right to me as the edit on TIC. It could be partly the newness, but the cuts don't feel as intuitive as those on the 1990 edit. Like 0.24-0.37 going for three bars instead of two (or four) just feels wrong. I already want to re-edit it.

Yes. I'm hoping the body of the main album are as authentic as possible, though I'd also love there to be some b-sides as bonus tracks and a collection of era-appropriate remixes on the bonus discs.

It's occurred to me that there are around a dozen tracks on the album I don't think I know at all, and another seven or eight I've heard perhaps once or twice. Apart from Confessions and a few of the bigger singles, post-Millennium Madge is a mystery to me.

I love her version of "American Pie"; it might just squeak into my Top 10 favorite of her songs.

the equally unpopular Die Another Day (which I really like

I like this one too. My general observation has always been that it was well liked by Madonna fans, and only the crusty old Bond fans groused about it because it didn't sound like a mid-60s Shirley Bassey song.

I generally agree with this when it comes to remixed singles after the mid-90s. I have always enjoyed the 80s remixes and early 90s. Now I feel most remixes stray too far away from the origins.

American Pie
Die Another Day
I too loved both of these.

If you're referring to her latest album then I'm in total agreement with you, so it's nice to see I'm not the only one, as I hope I've now made you very happy too. :p

I finally got around to listening to the remix of "Into The Groove" posted above and it confirmed that I'm not likely to enjoy this remix album. It felt too long, even though it's exactly the same length as the original. The first half or so of the song was fine, sounding like a slightly enhanced version of the original. And then it started, everything I loathe about remixes: the scratchiness, the stuttering, the weird digitized flourishes. Blech.

I'm not sure what this is, whether it's a new project or a teaser for a new album. When I saw the title, I thought it was another mix of Material Girl, but alas, it's nothing like it.

I'm not certain, but I think that's the remix of "Material Girl" for the upcoming remix album. And if so, ehhhh. It's fun, but very noisy. I turned if off halfway through. Which I also did with the concurrent remix of Beyonce's "Break My Soul" that features Madonna. These are all just reinforcing my dislike of remixes, being overproduced and noisy.

Oddly I did like Dua Lipa's remix of "Levitating" that featured Madonna; in fact, it's the last piece of music Madonna has been involved with that I actually liked.

Overproduced being the operative word here. I don't get the fascination of Beyoncé. I find here songs boring beyond belief but then I'm not her target audience.

Effectively, this is the photo negative of Celebration, the 2009 album that contains all the pop radio staples: where that largely played for comfort, this is percolating and alive, with even the biggest hits being offered in alternate single or video edits or different mixes. The result is a compilation that pushes Madonna's artistry to the forefront, as it shows a musician who continually engages with fashions, trends, and innovations. Certainly, this doesn't tell the entirety of Madonna's story, but it's a crucial chapter to document and, fortunately, it's done so quite thoroughly here.

Admittedly I am not the audience for this album due to my distaste of remixes, but I disliked the album even more than expected. Madonna took 50 great, diverse songs and processed them to ... sound the same. Interminable pulsing, booming monotony.

On the plus side, I created a playlist with the original 50 songs and it's awesome.

I ended up cancelling my order for the album. I decided I'd rather wait and see what's on the expanded studio albums first as I suspect there may be some crossover. Plus I've overspent on home media in recent weeks what with sales on various TV series, a couple of holy grail soundtracks coming back in print and me "needing" to buy (so far) three versions of the new Steps album (which looks set to beat Madge to #1 here).

Great idea!!

I almost bought it on vinyl, but decided I better listen to it on Spotify before shelling out the $$. Glad I did, as I didn't listen to a single track in its entirety. I did a lot of skipping. I too will wait for re-released studio albums, specifically those I don't have on vinyl.

That's exactly how I fear it would be with me. I've only heard Into The Groove in full (from the video posted earlier in this thread), but it felt quite "off" compared with earlier versions. Not just the original, but the You Can Dance version and the edit on The Immaculate Collection.

Perhaps I'll end up hearing more tracks from the new collection in time and kick myself for not diving in sooner, but at the moment the new Steps album is giving me as much pop as I can handle.

I tried and tied and could not hear anything that would connect me to the original.

Then, like a bolt out of the blue, I heard something in the background melody that blew me away as she sings "I'm a material girl"

Really, though, it's like a brand new song, well apart from that melody.

I did the same thing. It didn't help when wifey had totalled up how much I had spent on vinyl in one calendar month. I have a very large basket on Discogs, HMV and Amazon and I had to be ruthless, so Madonna's album was sliced up and thrown on the cutting room floor.
