A lot of producers and others in authority are like that: their ability to say "no" is of paramount importance, and the resulting losses incurred aren't dealt with until after they happen. That's what happened with the Mis-Ellie debacle on DALLAS: they disastrously recast the Emmy-winning matriarch from the biggest show on the planet just to say "no" to Barbara Bel Geddes' request for a modest raise and a reduced workweek while she continued to recuperate from the previous year's heart surgery... And she wasn't even disliked by the brass in the way Oxenberg was.
Executive egos are sometimes much worse than those of the actors.
As I've said, they should have held Oxenberg to her contract, with or without that raise, and then killed her off in the avalanche cliffhanger that was scheduled to close Season 7 but Spelling cancelled also for budget reasons.

Dunno for sure. Apparently, she was seen as uncooperative by the producers regarding various behind-the-scenes administrative things. Nolan Miller seemed to like her but felt her representatives were influencing her negatively.

Catherine Oxenberg wanted a raise more in line with Heather Locklear’s salary of 22,000 an episode. She says she only asked for around 2500 more than her 10,000 a week.
after she was fired she appeared on Wogan and said that she chose actress status over celebrity status and that she could no longer feed her cats in the way they were accustomed, as well as her departure being more of a shock to the producers than her. Plus she complained she had reduced storylines in season 6 because of the inflated cast.

Going from that comment, I assume that her "people" probably tried to push for more front-and-center storylines, more lines per episode, better positioning in photoshoots etc. Pretty standard stuff (and I'm sure they used the fact that she drove the storyline that made them #1), but for producers it's a headache.

Because he was unable to learn his lines and be ready for the shooting. So most of his lines were given to the actor who played Peter's lawyer and then he was written out.

I wish someone would write a book about the entire behind the scenes drama of Dynasty. It would be a fun read. They did it for Star Trek, and it was two volumes....

No (not this time...lol). This really happened. All diehard Dynasty fans can confirm it to you. It seems that PS got out of that bed sooner than you can say "Emma Samms"... Though she would have fainted if he had showed like this...

Wow - I did not know this! Now it makes sense why he was abruptly written off - I actually thought writing wise it was well done, because I hated him. So, when he was gone, so much the better.
I watched a clip of PSM this AM, and she really was perfect for the show.

It was an Eastern Tennessee accent. Also, some people after they've lived somewhere else for a period of time will lose some or all of their original accent, while other people will always maintain their original accent no matter where they live or for how long. So Valene losing her Tennessee accent could happen naturally after living in California for a few years (more so than living in Texas would), and it was around Season 4 time of Knots Landing that Joan dropped Val's Tennessee accent. It wasn't a case of immediately noticing "Woah, her accent has suddenly changed". It just gradually happened around Season 4 time, like Joan stopped putting the accent on thick and made it a bit weaker, and then stopped it altogether.
