Season 11 Ray and Jenna

I am so close to the end I can’t quit now but it’s so difficult.

New husband Ray wants to send Charlie away and doesn’t think that looks bad. Are you insane? Did you fall off your horse one too many times?

“There comes a time when a man and a woman have to decide who comes first. Them or their child.”

The child you stupid moron, the child.

Donna and her baby were lucky to get away from this mess.

Im watching the three CBS shows. I’m in Falcon Crest season 7 and Knots Landing season 9. FC7, as bad as it was, towers over this mess.

I don’t mind the Weststar story and even don’t hate Nicholas Pierce as much as I should, but the stupidity of the Ray/Jenna storyline and also Laurel Ellis (puke). How did this show stay on the air for three more seasons? How is this the same show that was so good just three seasons ago?

I brought this up not too long ago, the plane hadn't even taken off before he started cheating. By season 8, Ray had become unbearable.

Why send her all the way to Europe. That was just dumb. Cant you at least find something closer

After a while, they were sending all exiting characters to, as one poster said, "Yurrup."

That somehow didn't seem very DALLAS. But I guess Jenna opening up a boutique along the Champs Elysees makes some kind of sense, assuming her Texas disco fashions could compete with Parisian catwalk couture.

There are a few reasons why season eleven was the beginning of the end for Dallas.

Cast wise this season is without both Susan Howard and more significantly Victoria Principal. Once Pam was out of the show the series had to be taken in a slightly different direction creatively.

This season has that ridiculous Mummy Pam storyline which is excruciating to watch! Annabelle Schofield as Laurel Ellis was also excruciating to watch for similar reasons.

Pairing Steve Kanaly's Ray with Priscilla Presley's version of Jenna Wade just didn't work. There was no chemistry with the actors and both characters were bland and boring during this season as was Shalane McCall as Charlie who they decided to turn into an entitled spoilt brat.

Leonard Katzman's creative decisions this season are unfortunately highly questionable which left the season rather lacklustre. None of the storylines this season were in any way memorable with the possible exception of Jack Scalia as Nicholas Pierce.

A shame that they squandered the opportunity to bring back the Ewing patriarch in season ten with Steve Forrest. If they had done so that would've opened up so many storylines with Jock back on the show. Dallas needed a lift in season eleven and Jock's return could've provided that. :)

Yes mummy Pam took way too long. Should have just said she was dead as the season opened and moved on.

I hate that stupid little twat Laurel Ellis. And Lisa Alden… did someone owe the actress’s agent a favor? This was a popular prime time show and this is who gets significant screen time?

Also I don’t hate April but why so much time with Nicholas Pierce?

Clayton and Miss Ellie should have moved. Nothing for them to do.

Speaking of nothing to do, Cliff wastes half the season with that clown Dandy Dandridge.

I don’t hate seeing Charlie leave. It’s night and day watching Olivia Cunningham in 1988 compared to Charlie. Just a horrible actress who didn’t improve in, what, five years.

Without his wife around him, it was only a few weeks before Ray cheated on Jenna. I wonder if the same thing would have happened to Donna if she and Ray had been apart for several weeks.

11 is the worst season of Dallas. Even worse than 14.

mall of the regulars spend more time interacting with terrible guest cast than they do each other.

Sue Ellen should have been kidnapped in the Nicholas Pearce storyline and not April.

Sue Ellen should have been shot by a stray bullet in the season cliffhanger.
It’s an awful season and at least the next two seasons TRY (I said TRY) to re-emerge Dallas with new titles, characters etc

I’m watching the early seasons now, and David Jacobs’ original setup was truly rich and nuanced. All of the backstory (the Barnes/Ewing feud having complex underpinnings) and character motivations (JR knows he was not his parents’ favorite) are great.

Uncle Lenny knew how to move the plot along. But he wasn’t nearly as talented as Jacobs at developing characters. Aside from Donna, did any new characters introduced beyond the original cast really work or were any built for the long haul? Most of them simply existed to move the plots along as opposed to becoming rich characters in their own right. Even Clayton, who lasted the longest of the non-original cast, was pretty much a cipher. We never learned what motivated him or much about his backstory beyond losing his wife Amy and adopting his nephew. He existed simply to be with Miss Ellie.

Maybe Rebecca and Katherine

To me, Season 11 (DVD) was the last year DALLAS felt even remotely like DALLAS -- but most of the above complaints are valid.

We need to remember that this was the year when there was no spring hiatus; in attempting to get the jump on a looming writers' strike, they went right into shooting Season 11 right after Season 10 -- meaning they had to write as they filmed, without the usual planning time.

That had to affect the pacing of the stories that year. So even the holy trinity behind the camera of Katzman/Lewis/Paulsen didn't prevent Season 11 from being too creaky.

Paulsen, the best constructionist on DALLAS by far, wanted to leave the show (even before getting the offer to run Season 9 of dying DYNASTY) so there must have been a dynamic behind the camera that caused him to feel that way. And after he was gone, we saw what happened to DALLAS.

I don’t hate Casey Denault as much as others on the board.

I didn't mind Casey's smarminess, as a kind of JR junior, but they never did anything with it. So all we got was the smarm.

Yes Nicholas Pearce was great!

I never thought I'd say this, but the more I see Steve Forrest the more I think you could be right. Really don't believe I could think that, but the more I watch him, the more I warm to him and find him quite intriguing and what a story it could've been.

At the original time though it was just too hard to accept anyone else in that role apart from the beloved Jim Davis.
