Not sure Ncuti's going to appear all that much to be honest. The more I read RTD's interviews the less i'm interested in these specials but we'll wait and see.
Interesting comments. I have some thoughts on that as well.

Would you care to elaborate? I am always interested to hear the perspective of the fans.

I meant that NG will appear after the 3 Tennant stories.

Changing Davros's iconic appearance would be slammed as heresy if anyone but RTD had done it. The timeless child situation isn't going to be acknowledged when it should be ignored. He's going about how violent it is; yet we all know it'll be family friendly violence as it's going at 6.30pm and also going on Disney as TV-PG; not even a 12.

If you're familiar with the lore of the original series run you'll love the specials.

And even if you just like the post 2005 seasons you'll enjoy them too.

In a recent DWM Russell let us know that there will be an oblique reference to the timeless child in either Wild Blue Yonder or The Giggle.

Happy Sixtieth Anniversary Everybody. :)

I agree. If Davros appearance has changed, and he is no longer half man, half Dalek, it would seem to contradict the character's basic foundation.
I am a little confused about your wording about the Chibnall rewrite of the Doctor's history. Since it contradicts the established continuity
that has been developed since the program's beginning.
I hope it gets addressed as an error. Unfortunately, I don't think it will.
If that is the case, many fans will continue to be unwilling to support the series anymore.
With regard to Disney... considering their recent history, their interference with the show may be a significant detriment.

I am trying to withhold final judgement until the new stories are broadcast.
The return of RTD gives me hope.
However, there is concern over content, and we will have to wait and see.

Chibnall's rewrite of the Doctor's origins contradicts the entire continuity of the series.
If it is not addressed as erroneous, many fans of the show will no longer support it.
Hopefully, RTD will bring us a quality Doctor Who. Based on his prior work, there is reason for optimism.

Okay I accept that.

Want to see an awesome photo from An Adventure in Space & Time?

Did you watch the repeat on BBC4 last night? :)

I'm familiar with some of the original series but haven't seen most of it - watching in order and up to The Savages. I'm not going to be able to enjoy it unless the timeless child stuff is retconned; the Doctor clear states in An Unearthly Child he comes from another planet; later established to be Gallifrey; the timeless child arc ruins all of that. It even ruins the New Series law of him being the last of the time lords due to the time war.

Didn't see it.
OK, You can certainly send the photo from An Adventure in Time and Space.
Fifteenth Doctor sees the First Doctor.jpg

What do you think of that then?

Isn't that lovely. That version of An Adventure in Space and Time will be up now on BBC iPlayer. :)

By all accounts it's not going to be addressed.

I know.

I tend not to think about it any more. I'm sure a future show runner will retcon it at some point. :)

There was some good parts to last night episodes, but some of it was a bit shaky to say the least.

The bit where the roads suddenly got back together because Donna flicked a switch and screamed a load of words as she remembered stuff wasn't plausible let alone realistic. Enjoyable daft probably the best term for it

I agree. Chibnall (wrongly) contradicted the continuity that had been established since the show's first episode.
Numerous stories make it clear that William Hartnell was the First Doctor.

Doooctor Who is back!
What a world of fun on prime video
hi-dee-hi-dee-ho

But how am I going to combine it with Dark Shadows and Twilight Zone? I think I need an assistant, someone who knows about schedules and who can post on tellytalk on my behalf when I'm too busy watching everything.

I've just rewatched The Tenth Planet and The Doctor really seems to know what's coming almost as if he's done it before at this early point in the show, obviously he might just have seen it happen to other timelords but it's seem written well enough to show ambiguity as to whether 1st is actually the 1st - which might make me more amenable to The Timeless Children when I eventually get to it.

Anyway, be interesting to see tonight's episode seen as there's barely any spoilers for it.

Ambiguity in a story can be good, if it is well written. The issue (actually there are many) is that Chibnall did not utilize ambiguity, mystery, questions or anything that would have constituted good story telling. He concocted an origin story that directly contradicts the entire history of the show, and also disrespects the
efforts of so many good showrunners, writers, directors, etc. If Chibnall is to be believed, then the Doctor is immortal and is never in any danger of losing his lives, since he will regenerate endlessly. This eliminates the impact of any sacrifice he made or danger he faced. Among others, Matt Smith's farewell was powerful because it was likely the end. Now it is just meaningless, Thanks to Chibnall

The name of the show is Doctor Who. It is unique in that the origins are unknown, but there is still a history and consistency that must be honored.
Andrew Cartmel explored the Doctor's origins with some interesting questions, but he never put forward a definitive answer, because he respected the show.
Multiple stories clearly establish Hartnell as the First Doctor

With regard to Hartnell in the Tenth Planet there are multiple explanations. The Hartnell Doctor, as a Time Lord, would have known about
Mondas and the Cybermen through Time Lord records. And/or he could have met them in an untelevised adventure prior to the Tenth Planet.
The 6th Doctor, in a comic strip (written by Grant Morrison, I believe) was told that the Cybermen evolved from the Voords (The Keys of Marinus, Season 1) and that Marinus was
possibly Mondas. The Peter Capaldi Doctor referenced Planet 14, which could have been Marinus.
The Audio Adventure "Spare Parts" found the 5th Doctor on Mondas during the creation of the Cyberman. Did the Hartnell Doctor know of the future, somehow?

Enjoy the new episode and let us know what you think.

In the Tenth planet he clear knows what's going to happen and is one-step ahead of the general so he's obviously aware of what's about to happen to the frustration of the general. It seems fairly likely 1st would have either met the Cybermen before Tenth Planet or heard about them on Gallifrey (obviously it's not yet established he's from Gallifrey)

As for the new episode I enjoyed it quite a bit, didn't really find the oversized versions of the Doctorand Donna creepy or scary and more a bit funny, but I imagine my reaction as a kid would have been very different and they'd have creeped me out. Was good to see Wilf again, shame that's his only appearance in these specials, but that's the way things are. Honestly I think they missed a trick with having the copy see what had happened in the 15 years but it being ignored by the real Donna' there'd have been so much potential for her to guide him into coming to terms with what happened during Flux and Timeless Child; but it seems RTD's bowing to the vocal minority of fans who just want to pretend Chibnall's era never happened but that's a bit flawed when half the universe is still destroyed; are we just going to ignore that forever?

I didn't really like last night episode and for large parts I didn't fully understand what was going on. The CGI was impressive but I think that might have been to make a relatively weak episode look more interesting than it really was. Almost the entire episode was a double-hander with just The Doctor and Donna and although it was a bit of an acting masterclass but I couldn't help feeling this made it dialogue heavy and action light.

The best bit was the final scene with Wilf and it was great that they were able to include him in one of these episodes before Bernard Cribbins died.

Having read the reviews (I didn't see it), it appears that RTD reinforced the Chibnall era origin story. Did I misunderstand your post?

It seems that overnights were 4.83 million, down a bit from the 5.08 million last week.
Probably too early to reach conclusions, at least until the next episode airs, and the regeneration occurs

RTD is going full steam ahead with the timeless child. Ruby Sunday, the new companion is expected to be an orphan and TTC plot will be central to that idea by all accounts. I don't think he's going anywhere new with it, but is following the emotional repercussions for The Doctor.

Fantastic to see DT &CT back, but would have loved a bit more anniversary fun rather than 3 standard episodes.

Yeah. It was a relatively minor part of the episode, but it was reinforced that it had actually happened and wasn't going to get magicked away. It's a fairly important part of the plot so:

the fake Donna accesses the memories in the 15 years between the two Donna meetings (15 years Donna obviously longer for the Doctor) but the real Donna doesn't look into the gap even though she could. So more a way of minimising it in the here and now but at some point in the future it looks like RTD will re-access it

I was a little unsure at first, but soon got lost in the story and then it turned into something that took me back to my childhood. It was creepy and I knew my old self would have been having nightmares. One of my favourite WHO episodes in probably 12 years.

So the 7 day ratings are out, with 7.6m consolidated The Star Beast was the most watched programme of the week other than the ratings giants I'm A Celeb or Strictly.

Most watched episode since The Tsumura Conundrum S11 E5
