Pam is a nitwit to blame Bobby and the Ewings for her mother’s death

Yeah I'm afraid he became far too full of himself during the year long battle for control of Ewing Oil.

It was his dedication to the contest between himself and JR which ultimately jeopardised his marriage with Pam. :)
Bobby was acting more like a stereotypical J.R. that year. That alone is enough to put Pam off even more.

And I think Bobby saw the potential future dangers even less than J.R. did. The last thing that J.R. wanted was Rebecca dead and Cliff getting any of the Wentworth fortune. Bobby just seemed to view the contest as his daddy's wishes and nothing beyond that, and that he was determined to win. J.R., as much as he wanted to win, was at least thinking beyond the contest.

A lot of negativity toward Rebecca, and she certainly made some poor decisions to say the least.
Putting that aside, I thought that there was real potential for her to become a greater adversary
in the Barnes-Ewing feud. I thought that arguably her worst decision was to hand both Cliff and Pam
too much in the company. Katherine had a point. It was her Father;s company.
Too bad they made Katherine irredeemable. She could have been a strong adversary over more time.
Well, I suppose that is just the nature of night-time soaps.

On a related note
I think Cliff is treated somewhat unfairly about the Drill
Cliff has his flaws, granted, but he is running a business and trying to maximize profit
Cliff has every right to pursue the opportunity for the drill
The battle for Ewing Oil is not his responsibility
Yes, it is unfortunate that Pam became the deciding vote, but again, not Cliff's responsibility
If Cliff was making it personal rather than business, he would have voted in favor
of Bobby getting the Drill to oppose JR, who he clearly disliked more.
Katherine voting in Bobby's favor - well, she had an agenda
It led to a split with Afton form Cliff, but their relationship had other issues

Again, Cliff was certainly flawed, but the battle for Ewing Oil was not his responsibility
and Cliff as a businessman was trying to make decisions that were best for his company
He had a right, even a duty, to the benefits of the drill

Come to think of it, Pam blocked Cliff from reaching his goals on more than one occasion politically and in business.

J.R. exploits workers' labour, so he has some cheek to make such a remark (i.e. "unearned dollars") about Pam.
I do not understand.
Every business owner hires labor.
That is capitalism
That is the basic economy of most of the Free World.
A large Company like Ewing Oil presumably provides good salaries and benefits,
which in turn helps people purchase housing, groceries, goods and serices, which in turn provides more jobs.
That is basic economics.
The companies and jobs provide taxes which fund the government
Without companies like Ewing Oil , where
do the funds come from?
Unless someone else, in a capitalist economy is providing them somehow,
or a government has centralized the means of production,
in which they are hiring labor as well,
Currency can't just be printed
Again, basic economics

The people have a choice. They could work for someone, or open their own business
Of course people could choose not to work
and be freeloaders on society.
(Assuming that the person is able)

Pam did not want to be Cliff's personal banker?
All well and good, but
Any money that Pam had came from Ewing Oil or Rebecca Wentworth,
so she was not in the best position to lecture Cliff

JR was right. Yes he was born to a wealthy family, but he had to work his way to the presidency of Ewing Oil,
under Jock's demanding instruction. JR then grew the company into a multi billion entity.
Yes, he made some risky decisions, but they worked at least to that point.
Pam was awarded support in a divorce, inherited wealth from her mother,
and didn't appear to be growing the company, let alone spend much time there, day to day

JR had flaws,of course, to put it mildly, but he was right about Pam's accumulation
of unearned income

Well, technically he got one part wrong. She did earn every dollar she ever received at The Store.

Uh? All those workers out in the fields getting oil out of the ground, driving the tankers who transport the oil, those who make the machinery to get the oil out of the ground etc. How rich are these workers?
It is likely that those jobs pay well, and enable the workers to provide for their families

The business owner and the workers need each other.
That is how a free market economy works, in part,
and how income is generated
The workers are free to work for another employer if it is more beneficial to them

Remember, the business owner is taking all the financial risk, has to organize the business plan, arrange for financing, permits, taxes and other fees with local
authorities, and is not assured of making a profit. Not to mention compete with other business owners. It is not as easy as some may believe.

Those workers' actions are providing every penny of real wealth. Without the tankers, the oil doesn't move at all, i.e. doesn't get mass distributed, and society grinds to a halt. The likes of J.R. are pocketing the huge majority of the wealth. It's unearned dollars. Pam working at The Store is every penny earned.

The workers don't need the capitalist business owner exploiting them at all.

Ah yes, move from one exploiter to another exploiter in the name of "freedom".

That is not the reality of business at all.

What would you suggest?
If the capitalist does not employ them who will?
Money is not generated by a printing press, with no business activity.
Without a business owner, those workers have no jobs, no income
And all those people are free to start their own business. They chose to work for someone else.
Pam only made income because a business owner established a business and hired her
Not much of a work ethic, since that job did not last
JR had to be far smarter, more organized, and be more accountable to
vendors and bankers

Pam - the queen of unearned income LOL!

Capitalists don't like to hear the reality of who really makes society's wealth. Nothing gets mass distributed without the drivers of lorries, vans, trucks, trains, cars and planes, for example.

Socialism, but this thread is hardly the place for indepth political discussion.

Themselves. They make the wealth, make society work, and society grinds to a halt without them. What you're talking about is control of the means of production and the commanding heights of the economy.

People could see in 2020 during the lockdown who society depends on when things shut down. It wasn't Wall Street or the City of London, or any fancy billionaires, but the likes of shop workers, healthcare workers, farmers and delivery van drivers, none of whom are rich.

Socialism LOL!
Then the central govt has the means of production, and employs them, and they have even less choice,
not to mention less incentive, and the best and brightest are not able to succeed.
And the people you mentioned are either business owners or people who worked for
business owners, and billionaires were still financing it.
Your arguments are specious. They simply are not reality

LOL. What I've said is reality. Nothing gets distributed without delivery drivers and pilots, and none of those workers are rich. J.R. Ewing piles up unearned dollars, and lectures Pam.
