J.R. exploits workers' labour, so he has some cheek to make such a remark (i.e. "unearned dollars") about Pam.
I do not understand.
Every business owner hires labor.
That is capitalism
That is the basic economy of most of the Free World.
A large Company like Ewing Oil presumably provides good salaries and benefits,
which in turn helps people purchase housing, groceries, goods and serices, which in turn provides more jobs.
That is basic economics.
The companies and jobs provide taxes which fund the government
Without companies like Ewing Oil , where
do the funds come from?
Unless someone else, in a capitalist economy is providing them somehow,
or a government has centralized the means of production,
in which they are hiring labor as well,
Currency can't just be printed
Again, basic economics
The people have a choice. They could work for someone, or open their own business
Of course people could choose not to work
and be freeloaders on society.
(Assuming that the person is able)
Pam did not want to be Cliff's personal banker?
All well and good, but
Any money that Pam had came from Ewing Oil or Rebecca Wentworth,
so she was not in the best position to lecture Cliff
JR was right. Yes he was born to a wealthy family, but he had to work his way to the presidency of Ewing Oil,
under Jock's demanding instruction. JR then grew the company into a multi billion entity.
Yes, he made some risky decisions, but they worked at least to that point.
Pam was awarded support in a divorce, inherited wealth from her mother,
and didn't appear to be growing the company, let alone spend much time there, day to day
JR had flaws,of course, to put it mildly, but he was right about Pam's accumulation
of unearned income
