In addition to that, she received billing in the opening titles, the only time that happened for an AMC star apparently.Prinz might not be a household name today, but she was a big star on As the World Turns in the 1950s and 1960s as Penny Hughes. I'd say she was arguably the Genie Francis of her time, the young heroine in an early "supercouple" pairing (Penny and Jeff). This ad refers to her post-ATWT role on AMC, where she had sufficient star power to have her name included in the publicity for its premiere. She had left ATWT after fights with Irna Phillips but returned to play Penny many times over the rest of the run (once Phillips was no longer there).
Interestingly there was a YouTube video where someone explained the relationships over the years in 6 minutes. (Mainly Ridge marrying Taylor, then marrying Brooke, Taylor marrying the villain from the Roger Moore film Octopussy, etc).
Really? Only six minutes? I couldn’t explain all the Brooke-Ridge-Taylor relationships on B&B over the years in six months.Interestingly there was a YouTube video where someone explained the relationships over the years in 6 minutes. Of course the soap never caught on, and NBC retooled the show into For Richer, For Poorer.

Wow! This is really not the cosy SFT that I’m vaguely familiar with but as I mentioned before, NBC were clearly trying everything to make the show work. You can't blame a struggling soap for pandering a bit.....

(The actor in the center of the first group photo, David Forsyth, gets moved to the far left in the second photo. Jeffrey Meek (who is on the right in the top photo) got moved front and center in the second photo. The other actor is then-newcomer Matthew Ashford.

These are just as good as the ads for prime time soaps and mini series.
As a follow on from yesterday’s post, here’s another from 1956 for both ATWT and EON, which debuted on the same day. Multiple soaps premiering on the same day was a regular occurrence back in the 50’s and 60’s. The last time it happened was when Somerset, A World Apart and The Best of Everything premiered on the same day in 1970.Wow! This is really not the cosy SFT that I’m vaguely familiar with but as I mentioned before, NBC were clearly trying everything to make the show work.
I’m veering off the semi chronological order that I’ve been posting in with today’s ad. This is the oldest ad I’ve come across so far.

The theme tune to SFT was changed towards the end of the run, replaced with an instrumental of Billy Chinnock's Something In The Night.Wow! This is really not the cosy SFT that I’m vaguely familiar with but as I mentioned before, NBC were clearly trying everything to make the show work.
