Why Did Jenna And Ray Make Such A Big Deal About Bobby Seeing Lucas?

Bobby was always trying to be noble. I think as he saw it, he left Jenna and saw Ray as the finest man to raise his son. Added to the pressure he saw and felt from Pam and his devotion to Christopher. Jenna was angry and said that Lucas ‘would belong to the ones who raised him’.

But yes Bobby showed more loyalty to that awful Holly Harwood than he did his own son.

Fathers have surprisingly few rights in American divorce courts, so it happens all the time, despite his legal wrangling. The only thing that would work in Bobby's favor, of course, is his money.

Maybe in custody fights, fathers almost always lose, but no court in America is going to deny a father his right to have a relationship with his child.

I guess it depends on the father. Bobby was definitely within his rights to fight harder to be a bigger part of Lucas’s life, but that really wasn’t the way Bobby was going to go about doing things. He didn’t want to cause more pain for Jenna and Ray. And I think the fact that Jenna told him she was still in love with him made him realize it was probably better to just stay away.

I'm watching season 11 now and find it bizarre how little Bobby seems to care about Lucas
Well by this time, Pam had left him and he was embroiled in that custody dispute over Christopher. Not to mention what was happening with Ewing oil. Lucas was not high on the priority list.

The money would have helped, but wasn't the whole Ewing family in disgrace over events the previous season? Dallas courts might not have been as sympathetic after all that. Bobby also would not look good in a Family Court .... he abandoned the woman he got pregnant.

Bobby would have looked just fine in family court, he offered financial assistance and whatever else Jenna needed for Lucas, which she rejected. Jenna on the other hand falsified the name of Charlie 's father on her birth certificate and had affairs with married men while raising a young child. Any judge would have upheld Bobby's parental rights in a heartbeat.

Bobby abandoned the woman he got pregnant for someone else. This after promising her and her daughter they would marry and be a family. He was involved in shady adoption activities, as well as shady business practices. Those business practices led to shootouts and involvement with the Federal government.

I was surprised how this got swept under the rug for years only to resurface when Lisa sued for custody of Christopher. I thought Bobby was done when he had to admit everything he did, on the stand no less, but apparently it didn’t matter.

I still remember Bobby explaining it to his lawyer and his lawyer saying "WHAT DO YOU MEAN, YOU BOUGHT HIM?!?!" Lol

Well I would think it would surface in a custody dispute. I know it was a dream, but I always wondered of Ray's mercy killing wouldn't have been a factor when he and Donna were trying to adopt Tony.

Bobby and Pam seem to think their money was enough to buy children. First Christopher, then Lucas. So glad Jenna kicked them to the curb.

I was wondering myself during that adoption storyline if it would come up so it was nice continuity that it did at one point. I’d be concerned if what Ray did didn’t come back to haunt him during an adoption case. At least they didn’t just rewrite it out.

Bobby marrying Pam instead of Jenna would be irrelevant to the judge, Jeff Fairaday isn't alive to testify about Christopher's adoption, and Bobby's parental rights have nothing to with the "practices" of Ewing Oil.
Well the practices of Ewing Oil had everyone fleeing to California, then got Bobby's nephew kidnapped and involved in a shootout. Makes Jenna's birth certificate stuff and affairs seem rather tame. BTW, Bobby doesn't have parental rights .... he has to go to court to attempt to get them. He can then explain to a court why he broke his promise to a child he said was just like a daughter to him, and abandoned Lucas and his mother. With all the Ewings money and influence good luck with that.

Miss Ellie wasn't trying to raise yet another grandchild and I wouldn't have blamed her. Heck, she told JR she was too old to raise another grandchild years earlier.
There was no need for Miss Ellie to raise Lucas.

That's not the way it works,, both parents have parental rights when a child is born, a petition to terminate the parental rights of one of both parents would have to be filed in court.

Regarding Lucy, Gary abandoned her and Valene. Valene would have raised her but JR kidnapped Lucy and drove her out of Texas. The only ones who could and would raise her at that point were Jock and Miss Ellie.
Jenna was Lucas' mother and still with him. There was no need for Miss Ellie to step in and raise him. Although, it would have made sense if Miss Ellie supported Bobby in seeking his rights as a father, but not to take Lucas away from Jenna. She could have gone to Jenna and asked her to let Bobby be a part of Lucas' life.
