Mid-terms

Snarky Oracle!

Telly Talk Supreme
It will be a relief to finally see the end of the Trump era -- I imagine JD Vance's political future is DOA now -- but I'm not optimistic enough to think the Democrats will do more than political theater. Both parties have a remarkable ability to misinterpret an election mandate.

Voters: "It's the economy!" Republicans: "they want another Middle East war and a gold plated ballroom!"
Voters: "It's the economy!" Democrats: "they want weak border enforcement and more males in female sports!"

And both parties are blackmailed via the Epstein files --- not just the Republicans.

I think it's too early to say. Nobody thought Trump would win once, let alone twice (the second time as a convicted felon.)

As with Trump, it will likely come down to how well (or poorly) the Democrats perform. He's probably not a contender in 2028, but he's only 42.

Both parties have a remarkable ability to misinterpret an election mandate.
Ain't that the truth! But then, I'm sure they're paid handsomely for it (if not outright blackmailed.)

What happened yesterday reminds me of Michael Moore's prediction of a Trump victory in 2016. He said something to the effect of 'It will be the biggest f*** you ever recorded in human history and it will feel good". I think yesterday was another of those moments. And it felt good.

If nothing else comes out of last night's results, at least we will got to see Trump and MAGA humbled.
Trump sounds surprisingly optimistic after this defeat.

Not only is he bragging about having the power of veto, but he also claims to have friends in the Democratic Party. That honestly wouldn't surprise me.
I don't think the Vero will be much of a tool for Trump. If (and this is a big if) Dems try to pass legislation to boost the economy and Trump vetos it, the political fall out for Republicans will be massive. I doubt we will see much legislation at all in the next two years. Dems will hold the line against Trump's most egregious lawless actions and Trump will try to undermine any attempt by them to govern. It will be a stalemate, but one I think Dems will benefit most from in 2028.

It's true, but it's also sad since the "victory" is purely symbolic. Give it five to ten years, and the shoe will probably be on the other foot yet again.

Ron Paul said today: "The Republicans deserved to lose, but the Democrats did not deserve to win."
I feel this is a universal statement now. All you have to do is swap one party for the other, depending on the outcome of the election.

It takes 67 senators to convict. Dems will NEVER get 13 Republican senators to convict Donald Trump for ANYTHING. Impeachment would be a total waste of time.
Yes, which is why even Kamala Harris is warning Dems against it.

There goes our $5000 Trump dividend checks. :p
Darn, that's a promise he was denied the opportunity to not deliver on. Too bad.

Now the Dems are poised to take back control over the next 2 years because Trump made things worse. Unfortunately, they'll probably squander the opportunity if given the chance.
I find myself questioning the universe lately. First, Kamala Harris makes a valid argument against impeaching Trump, and now Hillary Clinton is warning that the Dems could "squander their gains if they fail to focus on the issues that matter to voters most." Clinton said addressing the affordability crisis should be their top priority, followed by cracking down on corruption. The fact that we're on the same page for once is frightening to me. Then again, the Clintons have always acted out of political expediency. Hillary made some serious miscalculations in 2016, but I think she's finally caught up to the times.

Hillary Clinton warns Dems may squander midterm victory if they fail to stay focused after election

Yes, the Dems need to be smart for once - attempt and more importantly be seen to attempt to legislate the hell out of the cost of living crisis. Trump can either go along or be as dumb and stubborn as he has been. It’ll likely be the latter which further damages the Republican brand.

That in turn will cause a massive split between MAGAs and the old-school Reps (this has already started happening).

Investigations into Trump and anyone surrounding him can wait until after the 2028 election. And yes, there is plenty to investigate and it should be investigated … but smart (in fact, basic) good politics comes first.

None of this is rocket science.

Yes, even a valiant effort on their part would go a long way to earning good will with the public, and opposing it would do more harm to the Republicans.

True, but then Dems aren't exactly known for doing what's obvious.

With several old school, neoliberal Democrats now saying all the right things, maybe they finally get it. Whether that's put into action remains to be seen.

The election results in my state are astounding. We flipped a Senate seat from red to blue (that was expected), flipped a majority of our red congressional seats to blue, and most shocking, flipped control of the state house to blue for the first time since the first Obama administration. MAGAs held on to a few local seats in deeply red counties and some state house seats due to extreme gerrymandering, but that's it. It was almost a complete sweep for Dems in a fairly red southern state. I hope Dems understand that they have exactly 2 years to get something done because Trump hate won't be much of a motivator for voters in 2028.
