Followers of the original series that ran on ABC from 1981 to 1989 had hoped that The CW might go the route of TNT’s 2012 Dallas reboot, which faithfully combined stars and characters from the original show with the younger Ewing offspring, furthering the legacy of the original series.
Faithfully? How about insulting. Fleeting glimpses of Ray, Lucy, Gary, Valene, Mandy and Cally. And as for furthering the legacy of the original series most on this site will argue it trampled on Lorimar Dallas. I'll be the first to admit the dying dies of Lorimar Dallas was abysmal compared to those first several seasons but TNT Dallas offered nothing to enrich Dallas.
I have my fingers crossed for those wanting Dynasty 2.0 to be a success, I really do. But, from what I've seen from the trailer with Cristal's ankles pointing towards Blake's office ceiling, Steven wandering the empty halls with a drink in hand, the chauffeur doing untold things between Fallon's legs, Cristal swiveling her hips as she walks towards her betrothed and the ultimate insult...Fallon and Cristal having a catfight, this version looks cheap. It looks to be scene stealing rather than character telling.
I'll be the first to admit I wasn't as big as a fan of Dynasty than Dallas but original Dynasty had more class in one scene than that horrid Dynasty 2.0 trailer.

I like how they keep talking about their show as if they already know it's going to last for years.
They also seem to be aware of its limitations, which gives me the idea that they know what they're doing - instead of remaking a classic just for the heck of it.

Well considering that they ordered 22 episodes of it up front (normally they order 13 episodes with an option to extend that), already secured a lucrative Netflix deal and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend - literally the lowest rated show on network television - is entering its third season, I'd be willing to bet they know that The CW isn't going to give up on the show so easily. We might have to suffer through another three seasons with dodgy sets, but original Dynasty already gave us that...

Not so groundbreaking, considering things like that already happened on the original show (Dex and Alexis had a fight scene in season 4) and arguably in other shows like "Ugly Betty":
However, I wouldn't object to Sam getting into scrapples with Fallon.

Of course, as it was 30 years ago that the series aired, plenty of the old viewers are dead now. And many potential viewers were either not born or too small to watch a primetime soap with bitchy catfights, boozing, rape and staircase falling.
I actually do think a reboot is better than a continuation if they want any chance of new viewers tuning in. Some original Dynasty viewers have most likely not bought the dvds, and last saw the show in the 80s. Good luck remembering everything.
Plus, they won't re-use the old scripts, so you won't be watching re-casted re-runs.
The big question still is: will the reboot be of good story quality?

I think most Dynasty viewers. And most of them willl remember Krystle and Alexis and maybe Blake too. And that's it.
Sure, everything is possible. A good script + good production + good cast = good show.
But how to make that "Dynasty"? What is Dynasty's legacy? Some boring company that was the center of the show in name only, some names of children and grandchildren nobody remembers (Lucas, who? Danny, who?) and no actors available to reprise their iconic roles. Unless, all of a sudden, we're John James and Jack Coleman's biggest fans. Perhaps Catherine Oxenberg could be in it too.
There was no land or sense of place so it won't feel like "returning to".
All in all, it's not a very exciting concept.
But I would definitely support a sequel of DYNASTY II - THE COLBYS.

I would have rather it been a continuation. This new series won't draw in the old fans because it's NOT a continuation. BIG MISTAKE. Then it being on CW instead of just Netflix, another BIG MISTAKE!
Ratings are gonna be horrible! They won't get more than 2-3 million. Each episode will continue to decline in ratings as do all the shows on there.

2-3 million is actually a hit show on The CW...
(Riverdale that airs before it went as high as 1.38 million viewers and all the way down to 870k viewers)
