Untrue. Joan Collins back then was much more widely known than Tracy Scoggins is now.

How dare you say that? Just 4 years earlier she had starred in EMPIRE OF THE ANTS.

Joan Collins was never statured in the way some of her era were -- but she emerged during the end of the "golden age" as a Fox contract player and minor movie star, a contract she lost when Fox was slashing costs due to CLEOPATRA overruns.

Afterwards, she did a lot of guest shot TV and smaller British movies and became more of a secondary celebrity name in the UK than she ever did in America -- until DYNASTY.

Tracey Scoggins became slightly notable playing Joan Collins' niece on DYNASTY, and I'm not sure what else.

I mean, neither was very famous in the States before the '80s, and didn't maintain a very high profile in America since then either. Even in her lowest, Collins has always been more famous than Scoggins, but that's not saying much.

I did think it was ironic when they placed Bruce Jenner's head on Stephanie Beacham's body when Caitlyn looks much more like Scoggins.

She was brought in for BABYLON 5's 5th season on TNT, where both she and the role were terrible.

I mean, neither was very famous in the States before the '80s, and didn't maintain a very high profile in America since then either. Even in her lowest, Collins has always been more famous than Scoggins, but that's not saying much.

Collins had good training from her FOX days (though they let her run wild after the latter third season and she went from melodrama to pantomime) and she had a star quality. Plus, she was gorgeous.

I don't think it is a bad idea to cast an unknown for that role--I mean, most of the roles on the CW's DYNASTY are played by unknowns. But if they could bring someone with a proven record, though I can't name someone off the top of my head, that might help somewhat. At any rate, shows live and die by good acting and good storytelling, not actor name recognition.

A excellent point about Joan Collins: she COULD act. She was an actress. She was a stage veteran. She could move and a had very expressive face (which means NO surgery, by the time at least). She was often said to have a silent movie way of acting, but THIS was Alexis: a drama queen from silent movie era. Sometimes she reminded me of a younger Norma Desmond. I'm just wondering if there's still an actress out there, with as much praticable experience of stage and, PLEASE, Botox free, who could fit Alexis heels... OK, I've got a few names, but would they be as much interested in the part as Sophia Loren was by the time ...?
