The Pilot was everything I expected in many ways.
1. There was no theme song
2. No intro
But this was just the Pilot, they didn't show the Dynasty logo until the last scene ended.
The show was cut up into a teaser scene which didn't lead into the Dynasty Logo or anything. Just all the names onscreen, that was it. Then, not 4 acts that followed. Always, when a nighttime drama airs, they have 3 commercial breaks and then in the last act, it leads into scenes from the next show (years ago they'd have another commercial break after that last 4th act and then promos for next episode would be a few minutes later like Melrose Place, Beverly Hills 90210,m Party Of Five et.) When the explosion happened and then Blake and Cristal kissed, I though THAT was the end of the episode. We go right into commercial. Then there are like 5 minutes left and they throw that into an act 5? Why did they do that? It made me go "What? There's more?!?" Those last 5 minutes should have played out with act 4.
I do not like Cristal. She is nothing like the original one. She's a teeny-bopper, much to why it's on the DAMN CW. However, this is a different take. She's bitchier. She's meaner. She's more like an Alexis.
You know, I am guessing something. Something. Something. This show is tackling new days stuff. Heck, why not have Blake be divorced from Alexis who's a MILF? I mean, 25 years older! And who would be better than Joan Collins?! The new Alexis would be a cameo, maybe a few times, but nothing big or physical. Maybe Blake married her and she was 20-25 years older than him. Joan Collins does not look her age, she looks younger.
I do not like the character of Jeff. He had very little to do in the Pilot.
The explosion was surprising, but why the heck did it have to happen to Matthew, why not some major character?
I like the butler. He was good. But not good enough. I also sort of liked Fallon, but she could also be better. I say this because the dialogue was just spoken out. It wasn't strong enough.
The script was AWFUL. Being a screenwriter, and knowing the original show, this writer or producers did not take challenges or chances. They toned everything DOWN. They made Cristal still in love and cared about Matthew, they didn't make Matthew mean in the slightest way when she said she was leaving him, Claudia was rarely used until the final scene, acting psycho, and the explosion was fun, but why did it have to be him? Such a minor character who probably will be killed off. And that catfight. Not good. This is what I mean when I say they didn't go all the way. They stopped it. Here we are into act 3, which, as a screenwriter of nighttime TV, your 3rd act must end BIG or else the audience will tune out. Okay, we got a small fight. Then Cristal just stops Fallon. NOT GOOD. It should have been bigger. It would have gained more viewers had it been better.
1.34 rating is TERRIBLE. HORRIBLE. NO GOOD. VERY BAD.
Melrose Place's pilot scored what? 2.3? Higher? Then each week the episodes dropped.
I can't wait to see people who actually like the show defending it and going "Oh, next week though...it will go up!" It's 1.3...it's not going to rise that high from there if that's what it got in the Pilot. Either lower or slightly higher, but it probably won't do more than 1.8/1.9 next week.
