I try really hard to eat healthy. I'm definitely not perfect, and I have fallen off the wagon many times.I don't drink soda nor eat red meat, processed meats, fried foods, refined carbs. My weakness is sweets so when stressed that's my "go-to." I also like a glass of red wine once in awhile.
I never tell anyone else what to eat or comment on their food. However, people do that to me quite frequently. There is one colleague who comments on it in a disparaging manner. He tells me it's a waste of time and that you can't stop the aging process. He also puts down exercise as useless. He frequently cites his brother, saying "My brother is a doctor and he says exercise and nutrition are a waste of time." The way he spoke about him, I thought his brother was the chief cardiologist at John Hopkins. It turns out his brother is a podiatrist. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Podiatry is, of course, a completely respectable medical field. He just never mentioned his brother was one.
By the way, this individual is obese. I sometimes want to ask him if his brother is also morbidly obese, but I figure that would be mean.
Anyway, my rant is that I don't tell people what to eat or comment on their food choices, but unhealthy eaters seem to take offense at what I eat. Sometimes, they almost seem angry about it.

Yes it's so annoying when people feel they have the right to be critical of others.
Mind you, I would say your colleague is protecting himself and is probably rather envious of you. Sounds as though they know deep down they should be eating better and exercising as the saying goes, "attack is the greatest form of defence". He is probably self conscious of his weight and it comes out in anger towards people he would rather be like. He hopes it will divert attention away from his own size rather than draw attention to it.
But you have every right to be annoyed by his behaviour, as you say, you don't preach to others so why should he be allowed to.

Just grab a bottle of ripple and roll over into skid row for a year or two to see how much faster you age than were you not to do this. (Although aren't sweets also refined carbs?)

You clearly realize he (and his toe-fetishist brother) are full shit -- although a nice daily dose of Thiamine could correct that pretty quickly.

Sounds like he's as much a mess mentally as he is physically, and wants to sabotage whatever discipline you have that he lacks and always will.

Yes, sweets are refined carbs. I don't do anything else with refined carbs, but when I fall off the wagon and my lip starts quivering like Sue Ellen's I turn to the sweets:)

"Normally I try to be a live-and-let-live kind of guy, but since you're determined to be my personal dietician, let me ask: if I follow your recommendations, is this [cast eyes toward his mid-section] the results I can expect?"

(expect a visit from HR, though)

And it's not just unhealthy eaters lecturing the healthy ones; it can go and has gone the other way (healthy eaters lecturing the seemingly unhealthy ones).
