ClassyCo's Thoughts on Falcon Crest

The show did come back down to earth (so to speak), after the rollercoaster season 7. Until season 8 Michael Filerman had no creative hand in the show because he took a back seat, the episode before Ana Alicia joined in season 1. I suppose there is the opinion if Melissa had really to go to the great vineyard in the sky then the mental card had to be played again. WRONG she ended up well screwed together at the close of the 7th.

Why not let an almighty battle commence between her and Angela? Richard and Lance would've had to choose a side. This storyline was being penned by Jeff, had he been in the hot seat for 1988-'89. Ana Alicia was on a win win, with her employment terms. Michael Filerman ballsed up, depriving us of Melissa after season 8 episode 3. A better strategy should have been used, with all due respect to him. Shoehorning Pilar and her family as supporting characters just made the show feel like 'wine with the Ortegas'.

@ClassyCo have a look at this article, when you get a minute. It's about the decline and fall of the wine saga:

Melissa sleeping her way to success. What a character.

Angela is standing in the ruins of the mansion, after Melissa's initiated fire ripped through it. Chao-Li is visibly upset after inspecting the state of the place; (a scene from season 8, 1988 - '89):

He says to Richard who was asking how the fire started: "Who can tell with accidents? Perhaps it was an electrical fire."

Richard who was incognito; after escaping the 13, speaks to his mother regarding Maggie who didn't know he was still alive.

Angela: "Well I told you to tell her. Most women like to know if their husbands are really dead or alive."

Richard: "Well its a little late to start teaching me about women."

Angela tries to crack a smile.

Richard: "Are you going to be alright?"

Angela looks up to the sky and says, "We are Giobertis Richard. We're not easily defeated. There will be a new Falcon Crest. You can mark my word!"

I've been in one of my famous viewing slumps while watching Season 8 of FALCON CREST, which is being a little bit of a chore for me to get through. The pace is so slow and I'm not liking a lot of storylines and new characters.

And now today, I learn that, in twelve days, the show is being taken from Amazon Prime where I've been watching it.

I guess I'll have to move over to Plex go finish it.

Wish me luck!

In # 165 <7.10> already, we see that Maggie needs a drink for the first time, and the gradual movement with her drinking alcohol (and I'm not talking of social occasions here) continues in # 166 <7.11> and # 168 <7.12>. There are many more scene where her beginning alcoholism is hinted quite subtly until it builds up to the nightly scene you described when Richard secretly watches her drink later in the season.
The storyline was, by the way, Susan's suggestion due to her own father's alcoholism.

I always want to see Krystle slipping into alcoholism in the last-half of their Season 7 over on that other show... More parallels!

Fellow FALCON CREST fans, it has been a chore getting through Season 8. The show is moving at a glacial speed, and I don't care about any of the new lot of characters.

Amazon Prime says the show is leaving again after having it back.

I really want to finish FALCON CREST because I'm right here at the end, but it'll be a long, leisurely-paced thing.

That's if I ever finish it. The show's gotten to be such a drag it's not even funny. It's not campy, it's not so-bad-it's-good. It's just, well, boring.

I’ll save you some time. Virtually everyone you like either moves away or dies, and Angela glosses over this and all her evil misdeeds in a final episode soliloquy that pays tribute to “the land”.
Well, that about sums it up, doesn't it?
