Continuation Idea

The more I read and think about it, the more I disagree with a reboot. Yes there are cases of it working, but it won't be Dynasty as we know it. It will really be a new show using Dynasty to get the attention it needs to get going. Which is fine I suppose. We saw the same with Dallas as a continuation in name only, no attempt to even be remotely the same show. I guess that's the issue here. Some times this works just as with any show, some work, some fail, they're just using shows we love to attract attention.

So what if they did Dynasty as Dynasty? It would have to be a continuation to be the same show. The problem with Dynasty people keep saying is the children's characters weren't big parts but in this case that might be a good thing - being loyal to a character isn't all that difficult when the character wasn't all that developed in the first place.

So what do we have? LB (mid 30s) and Lauren (early 30s). I'm assuming Danny's out east some where his father ended up. Did Adam have kids? Did Amanda? If so, would they play a role? Are Fallon and Jeff married? What did Krystal do with herself after Blake is gone? What's Krystina up to? How about Alexis?

I'm far from an expect so I would like some feedback as to what people think. Here's my responses regarding the family:

1) Steven and Bart live in D.C., married. Bart is a Senator. Steven works with a charity helping abused children. Danny is married with a family of his own. He's a powerful D.C. lobbyist. Sammy Jo lives between NYC and VA, invested in horses and fashion.

2) Amanda remarried Michael and returned to Moldavia to rule as Constitutional Monarchs. They have a family and travel between Moldavia and NYC as part of the global elite.

3) Adam and Kirby live in NYC where he's a powerful hedge fund manager and Kirby's a renowned artist (as Alexis had always wanted to be). They have children.

4) Krystina went out east to go to school, married into a wealthy and political CT family and stayed. She has a family and is involved in children's chararities.

5) Krystal moved to be near her daughter after Blake died.

6) Fallon and Jeff are married but separated. Fallon jets sets around the world, always in the right place at the right time. Jeff traveles too but mostly back and forth between family in LA and family in Denver.

7) LB would be the character around which they develop a continuation. While trustfunds keep everyone well off, LB used his to go into the oil business himself. He forms Colby Sharpe as a giant oil field services company (based on Baker Hughes) when he takes over and merges Colby Enterprises with Sharpe International. He ends up buying the Carrington Mansion.

8) Lauren, like her mother, aunt and grandmother before that is part of a global elite that travels the world.

9) Alexis has retired to the sun of Acapulco in the winter and Denver in the summer to be with her grandson and his family.

Any thoughts?

So a continuation instead of a reboot, the show has to have a big oil related company, but does it have to be Denver Carrington? The show has to have the house and the theme song. The show has to showcase the ultra rich and powerful and how they live.

I picture Prince William (LB) and his wife taking over while the Queen (Alexis) tells stories of years gone by and Prince Charles is passed by (Jeff). Or something like that.

A cute ten year old boy comes running down the stairs of the Carrington Mansion calling out, "Grandmie." He jumps into Alexis's arms as he reaches the bottom.

The eighty year old great grandmother holds him tight, "Oh Blake. Grandmie has missed you." Her hand on the back of his head caressing his thick hair.



The two walk into the gathering room and Alexis explains a painting on the wall, how she and his great grandfather picked it up at an auction in New York way back in the sixties. She describes it, the movement of the paint strokes, how they reveal a breeze, the warm feeling of the sun among all those flowers. "It feels just like home, doesn't it darling?"

"It does. That painting's been there my whole life."

"And it'll be there your children's whole life. And one day you'll raise them in this house. Just like your father was raised."

"Sometimes he was."

Alexis laughs, "Oh sweetheart, of course he's lived in other houses. We all have several places to live, but this is your ancestral home. This is where you come from. Now look at that." Alexis than begins to explain the history of a vace from the Ming Dynasty, not in terms of its origins, but in terms of its role within their family, the Carringtons. Eventually she says, "Its important to be a Carrington. Your Uncle Steven is a powerful man in Washington. His husband is a Senator and your cousin Danny is a Lobbyist and Steven, everyone knows Steven and all the good work he does for abused children. So many children don't have it as good as you do. You have a noblesse oblige to those less fortunate than you."

"A responsibility to care for them. Your Aunt Amanda is the Queen of Moldavia. Most of that country is very poor. She does her best to show she cares. She visits hospitals and champions their causes. Your Uncle Adam is a very wealthy fund manager in New York. He gives away money to Carrington Family Foundation to ease the burden of this less fortunate than you. You can never rub it in someone's face that they have less than you. You see the Carringtons are important people. You are an important person."

"Am I?"

Alexis hugs him, "Oh yes you are. You are the most important person there ever was."

A television news reporter speaks and a picture of Blake Carrington is shown. "Denver's favorite son, Blake Carrington, died today at the age of ninety-nine. He is survived by his wife, Krystal, five children and twelve grandchildren, including Blake Colby, the self made billionaire who created the oil field services company Colby Hughes as well as owns the NFL championship team the Denver Cougars. Blake Carrington leaves behind the Carrington Family Foundation with an endowment of more than two billion dollars. Claire Colby, wife of Blake Colby, oversees the giant foundation and its many charitable causes. Mr. Carrington will be laid to rest on a part of his estate, Coinin, an acronym for the family motto, 'Concordia, Integritas, Industria,' meaning Unity, Integrity, and Industry.' The mansion, grounds and horse farm are owned by his grandson Blake where his lives with his wife and three children."





Blake hugs Lauren in the entry hall of the Carrington Mansion, Coinin. The family gathers seeing each person off until only Blake, Claire, and Alexis remain. Jeff is the last to hug his son and tell him he loves him.

"Please take care of Mom for me."

"You have to forgive her for not being able to be here."

"Never crossed my mind to be mad at her. There's no way my mother could bury her father. I'm sure she's with friend on the South of France pretending nothing has happened."

"I'll leave you to take care of your brother."

"Of gee, thank you."

They hug again and Alexis walks him to the door telling him to hurry back.

Blake hugs her and says, "I'm glad you're spending the night."

"So am I."






The next morning Alexis watches her children, Blake they call "Trip," Marie and Jason swim in the pool.



Blake sees Claire off to the office, kissing each other good buy and noting a return to 'life as normal.'


Blake walks back into the house. A butler greets him in the long hall and says, "Misters Dent and Ruberosia are in the library."

"Thank you Andrew."



Blake enters the library and greets the men calling the one "Ruby" and hugging him. He shakes the others hand and they pat each other on the shoulder. "Let's get down to business. ColbyCo has a board meeting later this week. I need updating on the Carleton Hotels expansion as well."



Alexis, watching the kids says to a young man sitting next to her, "Go on."

"Your grandsons primary asset is Centennial Investments. It holds his shares in Colby Hughes, ColbyCo, his half of The Carlton Hotels he shares with prince Jamel al-Hambra, the Denver Cougars, and several hundred more businesses." He hands her a file.

"And His grandfather?"

"Blake had very little left. He sold this house to his grandson when he moved out east to be near Krystina. Most everything he had was divided up into trust-funds years ago or went to the Carrington Family Foundation along with the money Juan Castillo, Sr. pledged."

"Except for?"

"Personal items that went to his wife. And, I believe he was still holding onto twelve percent of DenverCarrington."

"What happens with that?"

"I can't even figure out who has his will."

"I'm paying you for answers and that's the number one answer I need."





A young man is in bed with a young woman, naked and sweaty and throughly enjoying themselves. She says something about hearing it from her sister.

He says Claire's the least of their problems, his bother wouldn't approve.

She laughs, "So when do we tell your brother and my sister?"






A young man shoots skeet on the grounds of Coinin when Lee, the other man Blake had meet with, approaches him, "Your sister's coming for diner this evening."

"Sofia? Why?"

"I don't know. I just overheard the talk in the kitchen."

"Well than, I'd better stick around."

"Weren't you anyway?"

"No. I told you I had some business of my father's to see to."

"And I told you I'd convince you to stay." Lee takes the younger man into his arms and they kiss.





The young man enters the mansion and Blake says, "There you are." He turns to the man next to him and says, "This is my brother Jason Colby. Jason this is Herbert Ross, grandpa's attorney."

"Attorney?"

"Yes Mr. Colby. Your grandfather left you, your brother, Blake, and your sister, Lauren, just over twelve percent of DenverCarrington. At the start of business today, that's nearly a billion dollars, each. His intention was to trust the three of you to continue his life's work."

How about Danny, Lauren, Kristina, and Adam's son, once he finds out who he is, and any kids Adam, may have had with Kirby, as well, as Amanda's kids if she married someone in between the series?

Their's also Bliss kids with Kolya, Monica, and Scott, and any kids she may have had with someone she connects with, and any kids that Miles might have had, if between the series finale, and the reunion, a dna test proves that Miles, and Monica are Jason's

I agree there are a lot more people to include but I thought to keep it simple with Fallon's kids. I also heard new writers prefer their own characters because they get paid for them even if they don't write them. So, it's just an idea where only LB is a main character from the original with Jeff and Alexis to make appearances. Also several Hispanic characters but not stereotypes by any means. Also, I left out Fallon because of the debate over which actress should show up. It's just an idea and I'm wondering the thoughts behind the idea verses a reboot. But certainly the idea should include lots of people showing up in Denver over time even if not there from the start.
