Dallas To Get Remastered In HD

Snarky Oracle!

Look at the edges - I think that's the difference. In the lower picture (where a "short clip from the finished video master" was used ) you see more as in the upper "original element" where that part was missing. The bottom image is remastered! Your eyes don't deceive you and I think without J.R. in the picture you see clearer about the restored picture information.

Yes, the bottom one has a wider frame.

Sorry ... but it's not the same frame.

It is possible that the image below is from a less zoomed frame in the scenic sequence.

What is most evident to me is the spine of JR's jacket: in the photo above it is evident, while in the photo below, after remastering, that detail is now faded and almost completely planed.

Obviously the HD version in overall terms, so not for the details, represents a kind of miracle and the rebirth of the 1987-1987 season.

It's because the top picture in low resolution video quality is heavily sharpened.
If you would sharpen the high definition picture below in the same way, it would reveal like 5 times more detail.
So the comparison here is not quite fair.

I just zoomed in for that JR wrist thingy a little and it's very obvious, which of them has more detail.

Oh, I see what you're saying. Maybe Grangehill was right. So whadda we do? I want to start complaining about the right things.

I'm still sure, however, that there was a fake Southfork in a studio somewhere. But now I'm confused.

many have thought that over the years, but a thorough high-definition-AI-enhanced analysis of images like the one below reveals that it was what might be considered overuse of the elaborate lighting and filming equipment of the time that gave the appearance of fakeness

No. No, it's real. But the Ewings are so rich they can afford three suns. Like STAR WARS.

i don't think it should come out on streaming first but it wouldn't bother me if they put both out at the same time i fully plan on buying the seasons on bluray. at least the show will look a lot better than the dvd's ever did since they were so lazy with some of the seasons in remastering them if i recall people complaining about. they will make a ton of money either way i think. i'm going to guess it's going to be Prime since it's on amazon right now but that's just guess work

Pool Party...
Oh my. I can't stop laughing at the balloons. Despite the Ewing family drowning in money that's the best they could buy? Take note around the 1 minute mark a balloon pops and you see it enter the shot. By the time Lucy physically greets Mitch just 3 balloons remain :laugh1:

I wonder what else this HD restoration is going to present in more clarity. It's going to be like watching Dallas for the very first time. Love it.

hey, at least this pool party wasn’t on the soundstage - that would have been hilarious!

There was a scene I think in the Julie’s Return episode where a couple of Lucy’s friends were running around the soundstage pool taking these comically tiny steps so that they wouldn’t cover the length of the pool in like 3 strides.

also, Mitch and young Peter Richards were supposed to be poor college boys, but they managed to have pretty decent cars. You’d think Mitch would be tooling around in a beat-up Chevette or something..

Sue Ellen is drugged! Season 10 (HD)

Excellent photography restoration although everything now looks nutty ... from the floor to JR's face.

And the acting from this season begins to be cloying ... starting from Sue Ellen's melodramatic swoon to Miss Ellie and Pam's worried expressions for her.

Looks good, but that awful score!! Really was not a fan of the score on season 10.
the “80s-synth made-for-tv scary movie” bit at the beginning was a bit on the nose but I didn’t mind it. As Sue Ellen starts to swoon, though… pure John Parker dorkiness! I was waiting for the trademark sax section end-of-scene blurts “FRIT-FRUH, FRIT- FRUHH” (apologies to the composer if it’s someone else.. and for some reason I feel like sax blurts begin with ‘F’)

John Parker was horrendous

The irony of John Parker is that he was, originally, very talented, writing often-wonderful Native American-inspired scores (today, we call that cultural appropriation) for various shows like GUNSMOKE, even receiving awards for doing so.

Even early-DALLAS scores like "Winds of Vengeance" and "Barbecue" and even "Black Market Baby" reflect that talent, and were more measured than what we'd come to expect from him... Parker is over-used in Season 2 (per DVD count) and then -- mercifully -- disappears for four years, from 1982 thru 1986, before returning to DALLAS in all his cornpone glory for Season 10 and beyond.

His scores just were increasingly erratic and jauntily redneck-jazzy and became, to employ understatement, reductive.

And yet Jerrold Immel was apparently fired every six weeks.

Parker was reportedly best friends with Leonard Katzman (who'd worked on GUNSMOKE together, to great effect) but their conjoined spiral down into the pits of late-DALLAS hellfire makes some sense.
