On the 12th of February 2023 it was announced that David Jolicoeur had died from a chronic heart condition.

He was a founding member of De La Soul, trading under the moniker Trugoy The Dove and referred to as Plug Two within verse. Gaining prominence in 1989 with the release of 3 Feet High And Rising, De La Soul were noticed. The year before NWA comprising of Dr Dre, Ice Cube et al had released Straight Outta Compton, ushering in the "Gangsta Rap" sub-genre, a genre that would go viral (go use the parlance of today). De La Soul went their own way, stood out from the crowd.

Still tackling the social issues of the day, and taboo subject matter, De La Soul's approach was candid while being musically digestible. They also offered lighter moments and love songs on their albums. If you don't know their work, I recommend that you check them out. If you ever decide to explore Hip-hop, start with their second album De La Soul Is Dead (circa '91).

A great loss is Plug Two's passing.
