Yeah. Not too long ago she put out a statement saying she would be fine. But, I guess at 80 a small illness can turn into a serious one pretty quickly.

What sad news. I was lucky to see her perform once when she came to the UK years ago.

She partly funded the research by Moderna which lead to the development of one of the main vaccines against Covid-19. Thank you for the music, the millions of books which helped children learn to read but mostly thank you Dolly for your part in getting the world out of lockdown.
Just saw this on the news over here in Sweden as well. She's inspired some Swedish singers that were interviewed about her. They were all sad.
I bet she's inspired millions of others too. Also like Angela Channing pointed out. She helped get us out of lockdown and also helped children get a better education.
80 years old doesn't seem that old these days. I don't know for some reason I had expected her to be around for a couple of more years at least. She seemed so vibrant. Full of life. But then again she lost her husband last year. I am sure that must have impacted her negatively.
My sister's got one of her CDs with some greatest hits. So naturally we've heard songs like Jolene.
My favorite though is Whitney Houston's rendition of "I Will Always Love You." Dolly Parton was a fab songwriter.
The world will be a little duller without her that's for sure.
Rest in peace to an icon and my condolances to her family, friends and fans.

I was in middle school 30 years ago, and my computer teacher would play the radio while we typed. He listened to country, which most of the students were appalled by. Of course, I was always pleased because country is my favorite genre. One day, Dolly's duet of "I Will Always Love You" with Vince Gill came on the radio. Most of the students were incensed that anybody would have the audacity to cover a Whitney Houston song. I was probably the only kid in that class that knew Dolly wrote and recorded it first.
She was a real talent, and on top of that, a truly wonderful person. She's sort of like the female Mr. Rogers in that people seem to only have positive things to say about her.

Well, she was certainly shrewd, and knew how to perfect that I'm-just-an-unpretentious-country-girl persona that a lot of them attempt but Dolly took to the nth degree... Was it affected and put on? Even Dolly sometimes admitted that aspects of it were indeed -- and even conceded that when she was in school she was always nice to people so, if she were to become famous, no one from her past could have anything negative to say about her.
So having a sense of humor about herself, one that seemed to be more-or-less sincere, was the trick. It's about perspective, I guess, and Dolly had it. And she knew how to corral whatever talents she had and make the best of it all. Which indeed she did. Her rags-to-riches story, though a cliche in show business -- especially in country music -- never really got old when it came from Dolly Parton because it never really felt like she was pimping the tale, even when she was.
And it didn't hurt that, below the make-up and wigs and outrageous outfits and occasional weight issues, she was gorgeous.
In other words: it worked. And when a star can make their fans, let alone the public at large, feel like her story is your story -- at least in some vague, peripheral way -- and you've got the skill to back that up with the creative work, you've conquered the world.

There's now an online rumor/conspiracy theory that the covid vaccine -- which she promoted with the best of intentions -- may have induced a sudden turbo-cancer in Dolly (turbo-cancers suddenly show up as Stage 4 cancers bypassing the first three stages, which has been associated with the covid vaccine).
Of course, she was also 80.
Consume your Vitamin D-3 in generous amount (the RDA is a joke and essentially like taking nothing). Fortunately, I was already doing that well before covid struck/was-unleashed. When covid emerged, there were early recommendations that you get your D-3 levels up, but that kind of disappeared from the mainstream media pretty quickly, reemerging in the discourse later.
I wasn't going to get the Maderna shot myself, but someone arranged it for me in Summer 2021, and I reluctantly took it. Quickly regretted it, but I've had no problems at all.
