Sue Ellen to JR after being out shopping (and drinking) with Pam after the fire.

"Isn't it wonderful how thoughtful he can be when he's caught with his boots parked under the wrong bed".
:ex:

In the same scene JR says to Pam,

"I've never heard a woman open her mouth more and say less". o_O

Another very telling insight into how JR sees his role as husband.
In early episode "For love or money"
Bobby offers to help when he tells JR Sue ellen has left him.

JR is completely oblivious to the fact they might need help and this is conveyed brilliantly by Larry.
At the end of the conversation JR says,
"You take care of your wife and i'll handle mine"
JR acknowledges Bobby takes care of his wife, but he HANDLES his! Wow!

The next scene shows JR calling a private investigator to tail Sue Ellen. We don't see the investigator and the call ends with JR saying, "I'm alright"
another simple line delivered with perfection by Hagman.
Did any one ever usually ask if JR was ok when he wanted to spy on his wife?

Plenty more pivotal dialogue in this episode from most of the cast and it just so happens to be one of my favourite episodes..........you wouldn't have guessed would you?

During the dream season Pam and J.R. are at the office and he says to her, “You know Pam you and I are beginning to think alike.”

I love the look of horror on her face as she realizes what she has just heard. Probably the worst thing anyone could’ve ever said to Pam. I also love her reply, which I think was “Oh good grief,” or something like that.

Dusty

"Give my regards to Sue Ellen. Oh, that's right, she dumped you."
When Dusty enters the office Mckay says to JR, " You do remember Dusty Farlow don't you?"
JR replies "like athletes foot."

A great scene, but how I longed for Dusty to be with Sue Ellen and him whisk her away.

During pre dinner drinks Miss Ellie informs Sue Ellen that BabyJohn has gained a bit of weight. JR says, " He's getting to be a regular little fatty"
Jock pats JR's belly and proclaims, "just like his daddy!"

Kristen tells the family that they (Patricia, Sue Ellen & herself ) ran into Cliff Barnes that afternoon at the gardens restaurant and invited them to have lunch with him.
Jock says, "What's Cliff Barnes doing at the gardens restaurant? That's a female hangout with watercress sandwiches".
The way that line is delivered is typical Jock, what a gem!

In Reunion part1
Miss Ellie runs out to the drive where Jock is with JR and Sue Ellen. She's excited because Bobby just called from Las Vegas to tell her Gary is returning with him and Pam for a visit.

Miss Ellie tells JR to forget about going to the office and tells Sue Ellen she won't be needing to go into town.
Miss Ellie pleads with Jock and JR not to let anything go wrong and whatever is done is done.

Miss Ellie; " He's still our son and your brother, you give him what he needs to fit in. Don't go putting up walls either of you".

Jock; " What kind of man do you think I am? Our son's coming home, I hardly know him. I'm not thinking of putting up walls, I'm thinking of tearing them down! You ought to know that Miss Ellie".

In Bypass Miss Ellie and Sue Ellen arrive at the hospital not knowing who the patient is. JR meets them and Sue Ellen says, "I thought it was you JR"
"Hoping you mean" says JR. o_O

This early scene is interesting because it appears Linda Gray misses her cue, speaking too soon and talks over the doctor so has to repeat the line, but Barbara BG also talks over Linda so maybe it was intentional.
I enjoy how this makes it seem more realistic in the worrying chaos.

Another good exchange between J.R. and Sly was after he discovered she was the company mole in season 7 and they’re talking about Cliff.

“Are you gonna set him up?”

“He set himself up.”
