I am halfway through season 2. I cheated and went on to the opening credits of season 3 out of curiosity to see if Nick was around in season 3. It appears he is not but I was shocked to see Claudia still is. I forgot she’s even in the show. There is nothing for her to do, especially since Steven married Heather Locklear.

It looks like they did not end the series willingly like the CBS shows did, is that correct? Did ABC pull the plug on them and not let them wrap up loose ends?

I haven’t given up yet but it’s hard. I know it was popular, up there with Dallas, but I’m struggling. Blake Carrington does not have the charm of JR or Richard Channing or Gregory Sumner. Alexis is no Angela Channing and doesn’t have the looks of Abby. All Kristal does is cry. I liked Fallon early on but she’s not given much to do. I still have some hopes but they’re dimming.

I think I read that they originally envisioned Blake Carrington played by George Peppard. I think that would have been much more interesting.

Peppard was cast as per the network's recommendation, and he shot the 1980 pilot, but he was a problem on the set and was fired.

Peppard and Collins already disliked each other, and wouldn't have worked together well -- if at all.

Great. Another pregnant woman driving off takes eye off the road and gets in accident.
Sue Ellen, drunk and pregnant.
Melissa Agretti driving off with Linda
There must have been one on Knots Landing at some point.

There are so many parallels between the first two or three seasons of DYNASTY and FALCON CREST, it's not even funny. In fact, we even have a thread about it:

There was Pam falling off her horse while pregnant. Pam falling off the loft in the barn. Getting in a fiery accident while announcing she can get pregnant. Who does this this many times?

I would have liked to have seen George Peppard’s take on Blake, instead of the sort-of-grandfatherly man that he became with John Forsythe playing him.

Peppard was a good actor, but he had this asshole-y quality about him which made him quite unlikeable. Forsythe could do "cold" but also cuddly, and I'm not sure Peppard could bring that range to the role.

After A-TEAM became a hit, Peppard was cleverly gracious enough to say he didn't think he could have brought "the layers" to Blake Carrington that Forsythe did.

Less known is that producers approached Cary Grant to play Blake, but he'd retired from the screen 15 years earlier and was working on his signature Faberge line of men's products. But when they wanted Forsythe, ABC felt he was "too old" (despite being 14 years younger than Grant!). Same with Joan -- the network had no problem with Elizabeth Taylor or Sophia Loren as Alexis, but Joan was suddenly "too old" (despite being the same age as Taylor and Loren).

But Cary, Elizabeth and Sophia were icons, so their ages didn't matter. John and Joan were just known working actors, and not icons -- at least, not yet.
