I got an award today for 25 years on the forums. It is hard to believe it has been that long. I first joined when I was 13 y/o on May 23, 2001, having been a fan since age 10 in November 1998. I was flipping the channels and was shocked to see Barbara Carrera, who I remembered from my fave 007 movie Never Say Never Again. I then saw Larry Hagman and remembered him from reruns of I Dream of Jeannie. I began watching every week night at 6 on TNN. It quickly became my favorite show of all time. It inspired me to want to write for TV during high school, but nothing came of it. When I had a keyboarding class the spring semester of 7th grade in 2001, I had access to internet and decided to look up Dallas. I found Ultimate Dallas and the forums. My parents got our first computer in April that year, and looked at the forums in more depth. I finally joined this day that year, and I had no idea I would still be around all this time later. What is your tale?

I joined just a matter of months after you. I had recently bought my first PC and the first thing I ever put into a search engine was "Knots Landing". This led me to KnotsLanding.Net which was at that time a sister site to Ultimate Dallas and linked to a common forum.

I'm not sure when I joined the old Soapchat, any sense of continuity was lost with the big crash. I'd guess it was around 2005, as the forum was pretty well established by the time I joined. For years, I tended to only pop on randomly and briefly. Compared to other forums I belonged to, SC was weirdly hostile. It wasn't until the leadup to the TNT show that I became consistently active. (And those years were hardly less hostile.)

My God! We all seem to be children of the same mum! I also used my first minute on the internet (at my new job) to google "Dallas" and found Ultimate Dallas and a bilingual (translated by the primitive Google translator, I guess) site called "Big Dallas". It didn´t take me too long to find the forum and join it, in early 2000s.

This one was my obvious inspiration to create soon my still active "Supersoaps" site, then called "Dallas Universe / Mundo Dallas". My next goal was getting a proper episode list, hence I now have those lists on Supersoaps in several languages. Then came my fanfic "Ewing Empire" and my former nick "Pam´s Twin Sister"... Those good old times...

Back in the 1990s, shortly after I first go online, I used to take part in Dallas discussions on Usenet, I think the group was called alt.tv.dallas. The discussions there were great but not moderated so periodically, someone would just post obscenities to disrupt everything. Someone on there suggested having discussions on The Oil Baron's Club instead, which was an early name for this forum so I started posting on here. I think it was around the late 1990s.

I have moved this thread to the Lounge as it isnt specifically Dallas related and may find a few more posters who wouldn't visit the Dallas forum

I joined here in 1999 as soon as i got a computer at home - I was in 7th heaven as the Dallas forum was SOOOOO busy back then and so much discussion

I saw the forum advertised in an Inside Soap magazine or similar and couldnt wait to get here .

Miss a lot of posters who have come and gone and miss Luke from Canada - my 1st forum friend

happy days and although traffic is much slower these days it part of my daily ritual online!! xx

I first visited the Oil Barons Club in August 2000. The place was a hive of DALLAS discussion, all those years ago. Many of the people who were on the original forum no longer post e.g. Sarah B; Afton, Miss Texas, Luke, Pamela_E, SunshineBoy, Knots Man and Karen MacKenzie. During November 2000 I registered and I've got much enjoyment/interest, over the 25 1/2 years.

In the spring of 2001 an official forum for FALCON CREST and also DYNASTY/THE COLBYS were added. I was happy to see these additions, as they were also very important in the world of 1980s American prime time shows. When the original forum home then known as Soap Chat was lost in September 2016 it didn't look good, for the community. However the forum group in the new guise of Telly Talk grew and thankfully we still have discussions in the present day, for T.V. shows past and present, movies, music, politics plus news etc.

Bobby is talking to Jock and J.R. in the Southfork living room, about the goings on in Ewing Oil; (a scene from season 3, DVD-4, 1980 - '81):

Bobby: "Daddy, I want out of Ewing Oil. It’s all yours, J.R."

Jock: "Just what are you talking about?"

Bobby: "I want out. I almost did something today that I never would’ve been able to forgive myself for."

J.R.: "Almost?"

He gets a drink, from the trolley.

J.R.: "Does that mean you didn’t sign with Westar Oil?"

Bobby: "So you know about Westar, do you? Well, I can’t say I’m too surprised."

J.R. has his back to his daddy and brother: "Well, Bobby, I built Ewing Oil into a power because I knew everything that was happening in Dallas. I still do. That’s how you run a successful business."

J.R. turns around now.

Bobby: "Well, maybe you’re right. And maybe you can’t care for the people."

Bobby speaks directly to Jock: "But I wanted to run this company on the up and up, Daddy. Only after awhile, the deals became more important than the people. I was borrowing from Peter to pay Paul, all the time pretending it was for the right reasons. And then I realized; after awhile, that you can only lie to yourself just so long, that I could pretend that whatever was good for Ewing Oil was alright, but it’s not. It’s not all right for me."

J.R.: "Well if you didn’t sign with Westar, that means you blew the deal with Jordan Lee and the cartel. And on top of that; we still owe them $12 million, money we don’t have."

Jock: "Is that true, Bobby? Did you go back on your word at the cartel?"

Bobby: "I hate to disappoint you, J.R., but we’re just fine with the cartel."

Bobby then answers Jock's inquiry: "I phoned Jordan Lee and told him why I couldn’t go in on the deal with him. Then I put him together with Nick Hammond. Hammond Oil? Nick agreed to take over our part of the investment; completely, with the blessing of the cartel. We’re in real solid with them, Daddy. Till they find out J.R.’s back."

J.R.: "You’re crazy, Bobby. You lost us millions of dollars."

Bobby: "I’m sure you’ll find a way to get it back. You’re very good at that sort of thing, a lot better than I wanna be."

He then leaves the living room.

J.R. gets another drink: "Well, if that don’t tear the rag off the bush. He almost bankrupts us. He leaves, and I gotta cover his tail. I tell you."

Jock: "Just what are you talking about, J.R.? Nothing wrong with the company. We got a refinery we didn’t have before. Plenty of product. We’re even back in with the cartel. I’m proud of the way Bobby acted. He showed people the Ewing name stands for something. He’s a hell of a son and a hell of a man."

Jock leaves the living room. J.R. is pondering, about the discussion.
