When Lance proposed to Melissa he didn't think she was going to accept. Carlo and Angela had other ideas, for their long term plan of a business merger. Of course she would not have let the opportunity slip through her fingers and had to toe the line, to become a solid part of the wine making dynasty. So it was and in the same wedding dress worn by Constance in Flamingo Road, Melissa ended up as Mrs. Cumson, in a 'bells and whistles' catholic church wedding. The 16th episode of season 1 when the ceremony took place was the first appearance for parish priest Fr. Robert P. (Bob) Curtis C.S.P.

Even though Melissa was carrying Cole's baby it didn't stop her from hooking his rival and fellow FC heir. She had both of them, where she wanted. There was a telling tale at the end of the episode when the cake was cut.

Lance: "It's not my baby!"

Melissa shoves a piece of cake into him: "It is now!"

Oh she was a wicked beauty. How do you think their wedding compared to the others in the show, of which there were many?

Mr. and Mrs. Cumson, an eighties power couple among the grapes.

FALCON CREST while the show was still in the top 10.

Fr. Curtis meets Melissa and Lance, in the Chapel’s sacristy; (a scene from season 4, 1984-‘85):

Fr. Curtis: “Alright look I agreed to meet both of you here, so we could arrange to go over some reasons for possible annulment. For one thing I now know that this marriage was arranged by Angela and Melissa’s father.”

Lance: “That’s right! Also let it be known that the bride was carrying Cole’s child, at the time.”

Melissa: “And Lance was sleeping with every floozy, in the Tuscany Valley.”

Fr. Curtis: “Calm down now!”

Lance: “Oh is that right and I suppose you were playing ping pong, with Richard Channing?”

Melissa: “Your whole family is weird. His crazy mother killed my father.”

Lance: “You leave my mother, out of this.”

Melissa: “You shut up!”

Lance: “No you shut up!”

Husband and wife then get into a heated argument. Melissa says she is getting tired of this. Lance remarks she that she never shuts up.

Melissa: “We came here to get an annulment and then he brings everything up.”

Cole then joins the company: "What the hell is going on, in here?”

Fr. Curtis: “Lance sit down. All of you are making a mockery of this, whole thing. Sit down. If I hadn’t known you both since you were babies I wouldn’t be trying to help you, out of this mess.”

Lance: “I’m sorry Fr. Bob I guess you can see our marriage was a farce, from the start.”

Fr. Curtis: “Alright I will do everything I can to expedite an annulment. You know I presume it could take a year or two, before it is finalized?”

Melissa: "A year?”

Fr. Curtis: “At least!”

Melissa: “We are planning to get married, in a few weeks.”

Fr. Curtis: “Not by me you’re aren’t.”

Cole grabs Melissa’s arm to leave the sacristy. She shrugs him off.

Cole: "Let’s go Melissa!”

Lance and Melissa's wedding 1 is certainly up there in the rankings of Falcon Crest weddings. I liked Phillip and Angela's wedding too, just before season 3 finished. All that Julia action in the episode, made it exciting.
