In one of the most recent episodes I've watched, Fallon refers to herself as "the forgotten Carrington", which is the title of any article written about her. But she is most definitely not the forgotten Carrington. I don't know what in the world happened between James Mackay and the CW or the producers of NuDYNASTY, and I honestly don't care, but the show is most definitely left with a noticeable hole due to his continued absence. To make matters worse, the show seems to go out of its way to make it appear as if Steven doesn't exist and that Blake and Alexis's only children are Fallon and Adam.
We've talked about it over and over, but Steven (who was played quite wonderfully by James Mackay) was one of the best characters during the first season, and he is really the glue that holds the entire dysfunctional Carrington family together. He is so humane, self-sacrificing, which puts him at odds with the more materialistic and power-hungry members of his family, namely Blake and Fallon, but he has a soft spot for Alexis, the mother that spent the majority of his life basically in exile from Atlanta.
Without Steven, there really is nobody to keep Fallon in check, to challenge Blake, or to be the "good" to Adam's "bad". I mean, Anders doesn't even seem to miss his biological son, nor does Blake seem to mourn the son he raised that turned out not to be his. I thought, for a while at least, that Adam was going to take over the reigns for our missing Steven, but now that he's buddied up with Alexis and her new hubby Jeff, that no longer seems to be in reach. Which, I suppose, leaves Sam to fill that void, even if it doesn't make any sense. Sam is left without any ties to the Carringtons. He's divorced Steven and his aunt his dead, but yet he still leaves with the Carringtons, eats at their table, mingles with them socially. Fallon called him her "brother" after they left Steven in the sanitarium, and I suppose that relationship was continued, but Sam's involved more in shenanigans now that anything terribly serious. He runs La Mirage (a homage to the hotel Fallon owned in the OG show), but his side-fling with this guy named Fletcher hit the skids when Fletcher turned out to be married.
Anyway, that's my primary drawback from the continuing saga that is CW DYNASTY -- the lack of Steven. I keep wanting him to come back, but I know that's wishful thinking. The show has recast Cristal and Alexis two times each, but yet no such thing has happened with Steven. While I don't know if I'd "take" to anyone else coming into the show as Steven, it does seem like the producers have some vendetta, not just against James Mackay, but with Steven as a character.
But, who knows?
