Jim Davis in “Comes a Horseman”

Maybe everyone else here knows this, but I saw a movie today from 1978 with Jason Robards and Jane Fonda. It was about cattle ranching, and they were considering drilling for oil. Jim Davis played a minor role, and he looked just like Jock cowboy hat and all. The really interesting part is that Robard’s character’s last name was Ewing.

I happened to catch this movie one afternoon and up popped a familiar face...Jim Davis. So I hung around to watch the rest of it. I thought the use of the surname Ewing was hysterical. I'm not sure if there was any filming conflicts with Jim Davis as this movie was released October 25, 1978 whereas Dallas was released April 2, 1978. I'm assuming Jim had his commitments finished with the movie prior to filming Dallas. For a brief moment he must have thought he was in the Twilight Zone when he heard he'd be playing the role of Jock Ewing. I thought Jason Robards was rather weak in the leading role.

I've caught a couple of films with Jim in them over the years, I think he made an appearance in over 400? Didn't seem to have a leading roll in any I've seen. Still very watchable though.

Can't beat him in his role of Jock, he managed to convey everything from powerful, ruthless, emotive and comedic all with an effortless approach.
