Dallas Couples JR & Sue Ellen - Swoonalicious Appreciation Thread

It was clear from these very early episodes about the kind of marriage JR and Sue Ellen had.

JR accuses Sue Ellen of not acting like a lady at all when she attempts to seduce him. When he sees she's bought a "sexy" nightie he says, "that's not you".

Sue Ellen is humiliated by Luther Frick which is a real hard watch.
He questions her, " You like him anymore now knowing what a hot shot lover boy he is?"
"Him?" replies Sue Ellen. Her only bit of payback and THE look of course.

The Ewings should have either had them arrested or let Jock shoot them.

Oh my goodness, good job I expanded my post that you were replying to, I thought you were referring to JR and Sue Ellen!!

I now realise you're referring to Luther Frick and his sidekick.

Never did approve of Miss Ellie demanding that nothing could be done about these crooks just to save face and save JR's reputation. Bad call on her part.

Our favourite matriarch is willing to pull a gun and threaten a journalist later on but willing to just let these two walk away after what they did.

They threatened the Ewing women and completely humiliated Sue Ellen and as usual Jock is protected from the truth. I'm sure Miss Ellie wouldn't have told him everything. Awful sad treatment of Sue Ellen here by the crooks and her family.

Wind of Vengeance really does show what kind of marriage JR and Sue Ellen has. :(

Also something that bugs me about the whole thing is did Luther Frick just humiliate Sue Ellen or did he actually rape her?

From watching the episode I used to think that he just humiliated her. But when I read Lee Raintree's Dallas book he had a rather graphic description of Sue Ellen getting raped and liking it. :eek:mg:

Raintree's book along with Hirschfeld's was written more like a dirty movie and far more graphic than what we saw on screen.

I did often wonder what he did when he took her over to the little house for her to change into her swimsuit. One assumes he would have watched her so in true Dallas style our imaginations can assume what might have happened.

Yeah I guess so. I'd like to think that he let her change at the bathroom while watching the door and that nothing else happened.
But who knows?

The episode was before it became a serial so they never dealt with the aftermath of what happened. Except that from that day on Sue Ellen could no longer turn a blind eye to JR's affairs. She knew he was being unfaithful to her. Before then I assume she never knew. So JR broke her trust and she realized who she was married to. :(

I would say Sue Ellen was very naive to JR's behaviour in the early years of their marriage and probably didn't dare to believe he was cheating on her or it just didn't occur to her.
The mini series gave us a sneak preview into what their marriage was like.

She accepted things as normal until she saw proper love between Bobby and Pam. Poor Sue Ellen just wanted to be loved by somebody.

Letting them go was definitely questionable but looking at it from her point of view I can certainly understand. If a police report would’ve been filed then J.R. and Ray could’ve put the entire family at the center of a huge scandal. Miss Ellie just wanted to put it behind them and not cause any more embarrassment for anyone.

I bet JR would have found a way to wriggle out of it. He was more evil than devious in early Dallas but I'm sure he would have got away with it somehow.

I would liked to have heard the version of events Miss Ellie gave to Jock and Pam gave to Bobby.

I remember reading in Kristina's book that she said a friend of hers said "Is your Dad's girlfriend the brunette he is constantly photographed with?" Was she saying that for us to draw our own conclusions??

I agree too that reading the book shouldn't change what you think about Larry. He was a phenomenon and if you were a kid of the 80's...he was our childhood. That is just a fact, and it isn't going to change.

Yes, I’m sure he would’ve, and if he couldn’t then daddy definitely would’ve helped him out by calling in some markers with the police department, judges, senators, congressmen, etc. And then Luther, his sidekick and their two women would’ve been found floating in the Southfork pool after unsuccessfully trying to learn how to fly off the second floor balcony.

That was the exact moment I decided Jock and Ellie weren't good people. SE was completely humiliated (and possibly assaulted) and Lucy was traumatized.

Letting them go meant:
1. They could have come back - or stalked and kidnapped any of the Ewing women.
2. Gone on and raped someone else.

To risk that just to avoid scandal in unconscionable.

If I let every book I’ve read about stars over the years dictate what I think of them then I’d probably hate everyone.

Was she saying that for us to draw our own conclusions??
Perhaps, and if she was then she’s in luck ‘cause I love to draw.
