Jessie, I love the cute banner you made of Linda Gray and the pictures you posted of her. :) I love this thread dedicated to JR and Sue Ellen. :) Original Dallas rocks. :)

Thank you for the banners and photos @Jessie

Thank you also for your latest video @Ange
I think the song you chose for it was much more appropriate for the scene where she's alone at night in his room than the tacky music they used on the show.

Sure @Sarah we can talk some more. But I don't think you will be that fond of this topic. But since we all know that JR/SE belonged together, let's take a moment to discuss their other relationships on the show. Which one of their other lovers were your least favorite?

For me the one of JR's mistresses I disliked the most was Holly Harwood because she maliciously wrecked JR/SE's second marriage and pushed Sue Ellen back into the bottle.
I really didn't want her plan to work and had hoped Sue Ellen wouldn't walk in on them. It was so painful to see the look on her face as she fell apart.

For Sue Ellen I think it is Clint Odgen. He was dull as a dishwasher. I could never understand what she saw in him.
The fact that they were both cheating on their spouses made their affair even worse.

Which one of their other lovers were your most favorites?

For me, I prefer Cally. She was such a sweet girl and totally likable. :)
Her only fault was that she was totally mismatched with JR and yes she was naive too and sweet as pie.

I also really liked Katherine, she was a fun character somehow even though her relationship with JR was destructive.

Then as for Sue Ellen's lovers, my favorite is Cliff Barnes because he was a main character that added some comic relief to Dallas. He acted stupid at times but he was likable. (not counting TNT's ruining his character)

Except for JR I'd say that Dusty was probably the best man for Sue Ellen. I liked him too.

Count me out!

Thanks for the effort though @Karin Schill - maybe the others will enjoy talking about it :)

I had a good question but I will wait until you guys talk :)

PS I must correct you - Clint and Sue Ellen never slept together AT ALL. And Sue Ellen called off the would be 'affair' out of respect for Mrs Ogden (Alicia). She had a sense of decency that few of the tramps on the show ever had. What she had with Clint wasn't really an affair at all.

As I'm sure I've said a million times - but I like to repeat, as my little disclaimer :p - I've only watched up until Linda's departure and don't remember the later seasons very well, so I am currently on the season 10 finale episode and will continue to watch 'til the bitter end...

With that said, my least favourite of J.R.'s lovers has to be... Mandy - that was a hard decision but all the other women (and there were lots to remember) seemed to have more to their character than the label of mistress. Holly Harwood, I quite liked I have to admit - at least she showed remorse for Sue Ellen, Mandy didn't care who she hurt.

My favourite of J.R.'s other women was probably Cally - she was such a sweet soul and I personally think she brightened up the later seasons.

Peter Richards was definitely my least favourite lover for Sue Ellen, no contest, but not because she was older than him; I just could not stand how much he whined.

I liked Cliff, in spite of his very obvious flaws, but I wouldn't say he was my second favourite for Sue Ellen. I would probably choose Nicholas Pearce, however (I'm sure I'm in the minority here) Don Lockwood is a very close second.

I haven't disappeared completely, I've just been focusing on writing and participating in the odd thread here. I've been rewatching the show too. Half the time I come on here and can't get the pages to load to write a response to all the new posts overnight :(

Anyway, here are my thoughts.

I sort of liked Sue Ellen and Clayton, I don't know if it was necessarily in a romantic way but I really enjoyed their friendship and I could feel for Sue Ellen later on when Clayton moved on to Miss Ellie and she felt like she'd lost her bestie.

I also liked Sue Ellen and Jerry Kenderson being friends, I thought Jerry was sweet.

In rewatch I really liked Nicholas Pearce but not necessarily in the romance plot he had with Sue Ellen, I liked his friendship with April and his storyline on it's own. He and Sue Ellen looked good together though (Linda looked fantastic this season).

In rewatch again, Don Lockwood was so blah. I actually enjoy Lovejoy the show so it's not Ian McShane that's the issue, I just didn't think Don and Sue Ellen had much chemistry, certainly not enough that I'd believe things moved as quickly as they did or they were made to last the way the show implied with them being married later on. Linda's exit felt rushed towards the end of the season, I think the romance plot was meshed in with too many other things going on.

As for JR, I'm gonna go with friendships here again, I liked him and April together and I enjoyed his relationship with Serena, Sly too. JR hanging out with Sly and Kendall in that one scene was just cute TV. Also JR and Sly going to bed one time and then Sly being massively relieved he didn't want to continue it is just so funny to me, I just watched that episode a few days ago.

That's not quite true. They spoke about never sleeping together when they dated in college, but they resumed a relationship later on and as they were both married it was an affair, a physical one as well as emotional (Clint more emotionally involved than Sue Ellen). Sue Ellen eventually called it off, but the subtext was definitely there that she and Clint were sleeping together before her meeting with Alisha. There were two scenes that were as suggestive as you could get without showing them in bed, in The New Mrs Ewing and Mark of Cain, both hotel room scenes with them kissing and the camera panning away or them moving away from the camera. Sue Ellen changed her mind about being anything to Clint after speaking to Alisha and hearing her thoughts on love and staying with a man who cheated because she couldn't bear to lose him. I think Sue Ellen had a lot of empathy for the situation she was entering having been in the Alisha position before, loving and staying with her husband despite his infidelity.

Side note, have you ever noticed Linda and Monte say the character's name differently, one says Alicia like A-lee-c-a and the other says Alisha like A-leash-a, obviously the script didn't specify the way it's said because Sue Ellen would only know of the character from Clint so it wouldn't make any sense to pronounce his wife's name differently to how he does in conversation.

I was never under the impression they had slept together @Miss Texas 1967 - that's just my perception of it and I know Sue Ellen's scenes very well, so I do feel very stupid if that is the case :( I probably shouldn't discuss. I don't wish to get into a big debate at the moment though as I'm not in the best place, so maybe I will step back for a while until I'm up for a discussion. And yes Monte Markham has a weird accent....

I just need to focus on JR and Sue Ellen for a while, might do that with some of my own writing.

Go and have a look at the scenes again and see what you think, to me they heavily imply they're going to bed together, as does Clint's suggestion to move their lunch to the hotel room he'd held when Sue Ellen called him after she met with Alisha (intending to break it off with Clint), there's a romance plot bubbling under the surface, one Sue Ellen just isn't all that keen on. You may view the scenes differently though, we don't get quite as an explicit confirmation as we did with say for example Cliff, Sue Ellen walking into the room half dressed and mentioning in dialogue how long they've been seeing each other.

I don't wish to upset you, please don't take it that way :pals:

Not at all my friend, that's just how I viewed it. I'm just embarrassed because I love Sue Ellen so much and pride myself on knowing what she's up to ;) I just always believed it never went that far.

Well maybe you interpreted the Sue Ellen and Clint scenes that way since you watched them when you were a small child @Sarah ? :pals:
Sometimes you remember something from watching the show the first time in childhood and when you rewatch it as an adult you realize that the first impression you had was wrong!

It has happened to me several times so it's no big deal. For instance I dinstincively rememberd a scene where Pam took off her bandages and watched herself in the mirror but there was no such scene on the show!

I agree with you that Nicholas Pearce was a nice character. I liked him. :)

I like Peter even though he and Sue Ellen were mismatched and the way he tried to blackmail her into having a relationship with him so he would stay in college was not cool! :mo:

I liked Mandy when she was with Cliff. But not when she started her affair with JR.. I cheered when Sue Ellen revealed she owned Valentine's lingerie. It was great how Sue Ellen ruined JR's relationship with Mandy and made money at the same time. Brilliant move from our girl!

@Miss Texas 1967 Funny that you mention the plot where JR and Sly slept together. I've heard a funny story about Deborah R's reaction when she got tha script. She was stunned that would happen as she had not expected it at all! :giggle:

@Justine I am glad to hear that you also liked Cally. I think she was such a nice character and she used to be one of my favorites when I first watched the show. :)

No...I've watched it since then and that is my interpretation of it. I don't think I am wrong, and that is my opinion just as I respect all of yours @Karin Schill (unless you like Mandy then you can take a hike :D).

Interpretation is personal to everyone :)

Genuine, not meant to be critical question, what makes you think they never slept together?

It’s maybe silly, but I wanted to ask about the scene where Sue Ellen kisses JR after the kitchen kiss. I wish the scene had been longer and I wanted to know what you thought JRs thoughts were after it?
