And after that?? I can’t believe for a second he would want Sue Ellen out of his life for good....not so soon after telling her he loved her and that she was the most desirable wonderful woman in his life @Ukdallasfan

I don’t think he ever wanted her out of his life either, not for a second IMO. This was my problem with so much of the later seasons, the inconsistency of the characters in the way so many of them acted differently than they had in the early years. J.R. and Sue Ellen, for all their issues and problems over the years, never stopped loving one another and he would never give any man his blessing to take her away from him. He may have said things in anger at times but he would never ask to meet with someone that way with the intent of giving her up to that person, not even as desperate as he was to get his hands on West Star. I just don’t see it. That’s just my opinion on that scene with Nick in his office

Yes he looked sad for a moment, Sarah. It’s really good acting. Nick walks out after JR basically says crack on and have an affair with her. So, JR invites the secretaries in to eat the lunch themselves and they’re all having a laugh but then he stops, just for a few seconds, and looks really regretful, before shaking it off. If he had only changed his mind and gone after Sue Ellen at that point it would have been so much truer to the characters’ real feelings and much better for us fans :(

“You sound like a man still carrying a torch for your ex wife. You really are jealous of Cliff, right out of your cotton pickin gord” (Afton)

“You’ll never get her. JR will crucify you first” (also Afton)

Why DID he call her ‘my Sue Ellen’ in one breath yet say such bad things about her to the likes of Leslie???

I knew you’d have the line committed to heart and memory, @Sarah! Thanks for that. I know, the writing and plot lines are inconsistent and it’s frustrating but I always took the message that JR wanted her and couldn’t stand anyone else having her instead :)

Thanks for sharing that @Miss Texas 1967 I had also completely forgotten about that scene. But yes JR did look sad. I think it's testimony to that Larry was a great actor. His facial expression could change really fast. Like in this clip from smiling to looking sad.

I agree that the Kimberly Cryder plot was stupid. I remember the first time when I watched when Sue Ellen shot JR after throwing Nick over the balcony, I actually thought she had killed him! :eck:

I want everyone to listen to me. SHE WOULD NO MORE KILL HIM THAN HE WOULD KILL HER THAN I WOULD
BECOME OBSESSED WITH THE THING OF EVIL.

The End.

But not of my nervous breakdown.:scream::hair::sad:

Well I am just saying that when I was a child I took the whole plot seriously when I watched it. I never saw Sue Ellen shooting JR like a joke, even if the show treated it that way considering how they followed it up in the next episode. I remember being upset by the whole plot. :yikey:

But I was on Sue Ellen's side because JR had treated her so badly. I think a part of how I interpreted the show at that time was my mom's influence. I remember watching the show with my parents and how my mom felt sorry for Sue Ellen when she found JR & Kimberly in bed together and was all like "she's been through that before" andI was like "when?"
Since obviously at that point I was missing the back story and had not seen the whole Holly Harwood plot yet. But I remember most things about Dallas intrigued me. It was very much like peaking into an adult world. I was always on tenterhooks watching a new episode, never knowing what to expect and I was so emotionally invested in the characters.

Does anyone else remember your reaction of watching a particular JR/SE plot or moment for the first time?
