Mid-terms

It's looking more and more likely that the Democrats will win control of the House in the mid-terms. Surprisingly, it now appears that control of the Senate is also in play.

Given the fact that both parties are corrupt and anti- average American, it's clear to me that they day to day lives of average citizens won't change no matter which party control the Congress. Gas prices, grocery prices, health care prices will continue to spiral out of control. Israel will continue to dictate our foreign policy.

But...

Maybe with Dems in control of the House, Trump will finally have some of his worst behavior reigned in. Maybe at least we will be able to keep his image off our money and off our monuments. Maybe he will be forced to stop using tax payer dollars on his personal vanity projects and to fund political campaign ads.

I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Most likely. During Trump's first term, the Dems were looking for anything to hang him on (provided it was something they weren't also guilty of.)

It's too late to save the east wing of the White House, but hopefully we won't have to see him immortalized on Mount Rushmore anytime soon.

As for his stock neocon policies (like the Iran War), you can count on the Dems to keep forking over our tax dollars.

Trump unleashed has been dangerous for the USA and the world. I think it's vital that both the House and the Senate go Democrat to curb his power.

Russia-gate and impeachment were both a waste of time during Trump's first term. The Dems chose to play those cards because they weren't interested in actual governing. It was obvious that their opposition to Trump was superficial because, while they were calling him an "illegitimate president," they still continued to fast track his judges and voted multiple time to increase his military budget. While it would be nice if the Dems could reign in his repeated attempts to immortalize himself at our expense, I'm under no illusions that they would actually undo the damage he's caused from a policy standpoint.

Even if they managed to successfully remove him from office, JD Vance would likely continue Trump's agenda. And since the Dems are just as loyal to Israel, the military industrial complex, and the wealthy elites, you can be sure that it would be business as usual on those fronts.

Kamala Harris's VP pick Tim Walz mentioned the midterms in an interview. Not only does he believe that the Democrats will win the House and Senate, but he also predicts that they will win the presidency in 2028. However, he's saying the same thing as me, which is that winning is not enough. If voters put the Dems back in power, Walz warns that there's a "real danger" if the party is too slow to deliver on its promises. As Walz put it, "If Democrats do all this, the public turns out, they vote for us, and kids still can't afford a college education, can't afford housing, that's gonna be a problem."

Walz also discussed the Harris campaign's failed bid for the presidency. He said the party misinterpreted who the swing voters were, and said they should have courted disaffected, working-class voters instead of aligning with the Cheney family. Walz said that was a miscalculation because they thought the bulk of swing voters were disaffected neocon Republicans. He also acknowledged that they should have done more to address the fracture between Jewish-Americans and the Muslim community over the "intolerable assault" in Gaza. Lastly, Walz mentioned how the Dems have strayed over the years from their working-class roots.

I agreed with Walz up to that point, but then he said he believes in "moral capitalism." Walz added that it's possible to "appease the business interests" and ensure people have access to housing at the same time. The problem with that is the business interests only care about their profits.

Still, I think Walz "gets it"(for the most part) when it comes to where the Dems went wrong. I think he would have been better to have had at the top of the ticket, as he doesn't seem as clueless, establishment-minded, and out of touch as Harris. That's not to say he's perfect (I know he supported some of the controversial "woke" policies), but he's mostly spot on when it comes to working class issues. Would he have done the establishment's bidding if he were pressured to do so? Probably. But I predict that the left flank of the party would have got more concessions than we ever did under Biden.

The fact that he's being this candid makes me wonder if he's considering running in 2028.

With wide spread reports of missing absentee ballots in Seattle and voter machine irregularities in Tennessee, it's getting difficult for me to trust that whatever the results are, they will be valid.

Curious as to everyone's thoughts on Ramaswamy's and against his opponent where he used the stranger mother attack her credibility (even though there were abuse allegations, removal from the mother's custody and even charges of rape filed).

The integrity of elections has been on a downward swing since 2000. It's pretty much a regular occurrence these days for both general and primary elections to be sketchy. I can only imagine what role AI will likely play in all of this as time goes on (that is if it's not already playing a role now.)

I just started hearing about it, and it seems pretty sleazy to me. The ad is substance free and manipulative, but that's sadly the state of politics today.

Yes, she hadn't seen the biological mother in half-a-century, How does Mom know what her daughter, removed from the house as a child for abuse in the '70s, know what her daughter is like at all??

Even some Republicans have called foul on the ad. But JD Vance called foul on those calling foul (Vance ought to be better than this, but of course is proving he isn't).

Oh, yes. The infamous 2000 election -- and it was obviously stolen the night it happened. After Gore was initially called "the winner," a live feed to the Bushes' Florida hotel room saw the family leap to its feet (including Barbara's big ol' ass) and scream at the TV... I remember thinking: "this is odd"... Yes, it's normal to be upset by a family member's loss, but their reaction looked more like --- 'Hey, this is not what the hell we paid for!'

45 minutes later, Tom Brokaw (who once looked at me through a crowd and smiled in NYC) came back on the air and, almost fumbling for words, announced they were having to rescind the "win for Gore" proclamation because one key state had just been reversed.

My cynical thought then was: 'it better not be Florida.'

It was Florida. And suddenly Dubya was president.

And I have never seen that damning footage of the Bush family's reaction in the hotel room again. Not once... And then there was the weeks-long scandal that followed.

Afterwards, the Republicans wanted to roll out those electronic touch-screen voting machines, and the Democrats fought it because the machines couldn't be audited nor leave a paper trail (making them obvious tools for potential hacking). Which led to Dubya winning artificially a second time in 2004 --- even though exit polls, which had Dubya losing, had their greatest schism from the official vote in history, the vote decided by Diebold state, Ohio, where the owner said publicly he would do whatever he could to help Dubya win again.

The media gasped at the official-vote-versus-exit-poll schism for a single day, and never mentioned it again.

But this what happened when a president is "elected" falsely two times in a row -- you get one of the most destructive presidencies in history, that of George Dubya Bush.

Yes, election can be rigged. And that's why the parties later flipped on the electronic voting machines after a while: the Democrats now wanted them, and the Republicans wanted to stop them.

Whenever I worry about elections being rigged or stolen, I always worry it's the Republicans. Democrats aren't organized or cohesive enough to rig a floor vote, let alone a whole election.

One of the most disgusting political ads ever and shows Ramaswamy as being totally unfit for elected office. JD Vance's defence of the ad and criticising people denouncing it shows what a nasty piece of work he is.

After Epstein, is it any surprise that MAGA politicians would side with an alleged child sex abuser over the survivor of the crime?

I think it's all going to backfire on Ramaswamy spectacularly, but we'll see.

In other news, the Trump Administration is suing to keep Alaska from certifying its senatorial election if the Democrat wins. I swear, you can't even make this shit up.

Ramaswamy was on course to lose already because he is a terrible candidate and an awful person. I'm not sure how much difference ťhe ad will make to those who were already inclined to vote for him. Republicans voters were happy to vote for a president who boasted about grabbing women by the pussy without their consent and who was found liable for sexually assaulting a woman. They clearly don't have a problem with siding with sex abusers over their victims so I can imagine they wouldn't have a problem with this ad.
