HA!! I’m guessing that could be the problem. There isn't a lot of intersection between baseball fans and 80's soaps fans I guess.
What exactly did he say? Somehow I must’ve missed this.I'm happy for the Rangers and it's been especially fun seeing normally quiet, focused, staid Corey Seager have so much fun. I love how he managed to throw some shade at the Astro's Alex Bregman too (one of the guys who allegedly actually did cheat back in 2017, so it's no surprise Corey was happy to take a little dig.)
I’m kind of the same way. I do enjoy those times of year but it never lives up to the hype really. I guess all that speculation gives all the baseball journalists something to do of course. Let’s face it, sports is just as much about the hype now as it is the game itself. Maybe even more so.My two least favorite periods of baseball are the trade deadline and the offseason. I can't stand all the speculation and guessing and predicting. I just want to know the end results
The Dodgers have had me scratching my head a little in recent years. It does help me get my mind off my own mess on the opposite coast though.Aside from nabbing Freeman, the Dodgers have made fairly stupid choices in the offseason lately, so I'm not holding my breath for anything different this year
My honest opinion? I think the Yankees should sell it all off. I fear the window has closed on this team already and I’d like to knock it down and rebuild with youth.I haven't seen much speculation regarding what the Yankees might do this off season, other than Ohtani. What is their biggest need?
I have to admit I love listening to all the fans thinking they should be running the team, but that’s what it’s all about. I also enjoy the jubilation of a fan base when a team signs a top free agent. That’s always good to see.I do enjoy all the fan reactions after decisions are made. Watching Dodgers fans get all riled up is a pastime I enjoy.
Hall of fame pitcher one day but I agree that it’s probably time for him to hang it up. The injuries are only going to mount as he gets older. He would definitely free up some cash and they could use some help on that staff. With all the injuries they’ve had plus Urias’s future now being in doubt they can address the staff at the very least. And now, Kershaw is out until probably next summer. He needs to just retire. We could use that money to get some great, young pitchers and a good third baseman.

I didn’t realize the Dodgers were actively trying to trade Taylor at the deadline. I’m guessing they were trying to get another arm for the stretch run given all the injuries.

Now, realistically, will they do that? It’s very unlikely but I think it is the best option. I’d like to unload most of the big contracts and stop building through free agency primarily. I’m all for a youth movement and biting the bullet for a couple of years until the team is ready to contend again. But good luck selling this in New York!
If I’m going for a quick fix for this team right now? Then I would say go get a couple of good starting pitchers (that can stay healthy) to help out Cole. Then bring in some hitters that can hit for average and with RISP. This seems to be their biggest weakness. They are too much of a power team that lacks speed and contact. They’re also terrible defensively.
Interesting! I kind of like it. It’s all in good fun. Those teams are bitter rivals as well so it’s totally understandable. This article explains it: https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/...tros-alex-bregman-during-world-series-parade/
I would hope they’d hold onto him, unless of course they feel they can get someone better at the position. I’m just not sure there is better out there right now. There was some third baseman they were trying to get (the name escapes me) and both Taylor and Muncy were constantly being mentioned as trades. I don't how much truth there was to that, but the Dodgers always seem to not appreciate Taylor as much as they should, so I'm always worried they'll get rid of him.
You know, the funny thing is when I was playing as a teenager I would tell people I’d play for nothing. That’s how much I loved the game.I was just looking up Cole's contract info. 9 years and $36,000,000. Can you imagine that kind of money in a year?
San Diego took a chance and went out there and spent a ton of money. I’ll give them credit but the problem is building through free agency seldom works these days. Having all those huge contracts under one roof can backfire. Free agency is a tool, and it can be a good tool, but there is also a case of having too much talent, or the wrong talent. I think some teams just keep spending with no caution and end up with a bunch of stars that are all great individually but not necessarily collectively. It’s hard to spend that much money and get the right chemistry.I keep seeing Juan Soto's name linked with the Yankees (but also with lots of other teams). I can't imagine he wants to stick around in San Diego. That team is a mess.
All is quiet so far in Yankee Land. I keep hearing the Soto and Bellinger rumors. Personally I’d rather do things differently for a change but I’m sure if the owner approves it they will be buying everyone they can afford.Have they made any moves yet?
I’m all for veteran players for the leadership they can provide but I do get the flip side of it. Cincinnati is looking to get to the next level and I’m assuming his contract coming off the books can help them. They’ve never really been a big spending team so to re-sign him at his age isn’t really in their plans. It's been interesting following which players aren't having their options picked up. I feel bad for Joey Votto. I like him a lot and just always find myself rooting for the old guys (except when they are on my team). But he seems fine with it. He's been around long enough to know that's just how baseball works.
Cincinnati has a young team with some players who will get even better. Votto was, indeed, a fine player for many years.Interesting! I kind of like it. It’s all in good fun. Those teams are bitter rivals as well so it’s totally understandable.

I will say in Cole’s case he has earned his money. I’d hate to see where they would’ve been without him this year.

Impossible? No. Texas just won with a top 5 payroll but in their case they chose their pieces carefully. Sadly I don’t think enough teams do when they’re putting a team together.

I wish some good young team would pick him up though. He can be invaluable in a clubhouse at this point as far as teaching these kids how to go about things the right way.
Teams are always looking for pitching. Any pitcher with any upside will be signed somewhereVery happy and completely unsurprised to see Corbin Carroll win the ROY award. He absolutely deserved it.
I'm also pleased that Acuna Jr. won MVP over Mookie who is on my last nerve currently. I wouldn't have been mad if Freddie had won, though.
No surprises with Shohei receiving the AL award.
Is the story of the off season going to be Trevor Bauer's return to MLB? Personally, regardless of whatever actually happened between him and his accuser, I think he seems like a toxic teammate. He's also a good pitcher, so I wouldn't be surprised to see him return. At least I feel fairly confident he won't be coming back to the Dodgers.
I think Acuna was the first player, ever with at least 40 HR and 70 SB.Very happy and completely unsurprised to see Corbin Carroll win the ROY award. He absolutely deserved it.

One of my favorite younger players in the game right now. I think getting to play on the big stage definitely helped his cause. He was still relatively unknown for the most part until October and now everyone knows about him and what he can do. He deserves it.Very happy and completely unsurprised to see Corbin Carroll win the ROY award. He absolutely deserved it.
What Acuna accomplished this season is something we’ve never seen. He was definitely the right choice. I never thought I’d see 40 HR and 70 SB in the same season. Arguably the best all around player in the game right now.I'm also pleased that Acuna Jr. won MVP over Mookie who is on my last nerve currently. I wouldn't have been mad if Freddie had won, though.
Perhaps the most anticlimactic vote I can remember. There really was no other way for it to go. Hopefully he can get healthy now and we’ll see where he ends up.No surprises with Shohei receiving the AL award.
Hopefully he’s learned his lesson and can be a better teammate wherever he ends up. I’ve never denied his talent but if I were a manager I’d be concerned about his attitude and would be hesitant about bringing him in. He can help a team, but I’d definitely sit him down and see where his head is at.Is the story of the off season going to be Trevor Bauer's return to MLB
I really enjoyed watching them last summer when they went on that incredible run. They looked unstoppable there for awhile. I don’t think they’re that far off from serious contention if they keep these kids together.Cincinnati has a young team with some players who will get even better.
His stats are very impressive overall. I hear the analysts already making the case for Cooperstown. Hopefully he has another year or two left in him and can get back in the postseason for one last shot, wherever he lands.Votto was, indeed, a fine player for many years.
It’s invaluable. When I look at what Texas just did I look at their staff and it was a collection of very good veteran arms, and that’s what you need to go deep in October. Keeping the staff healthy for the most part is half the battle.Teams are always looking for pitching. Any pitcher with any upside will be signed somewhere
You are correct. I remember when 40/40 was considered a huge feat that very few ever approached. I don’t have an explanation for 40/70. It is incredible.I think Acuna was the first player, ever with at least 40 HR and 70 SB.
