Movie Web 13 Greatest Soap Opera's Of All Time

Billy Wall

Nice to see Dallas get the respect it deserves.

This list is as follows...
13. Dark Shadows
12. Guiding Light
11. Falcon Crest
10. As The World Turns
9. Knots Landing
8. Neighbors
7. Bold and the Beautiful
6. Young and the Restless
5. All My Children
4. Melrose Place
3. Dynasty
2. General Hospital
1. Dallas

IMO, the ABC daytime soaps got more love than the CBS daytime soaps. You're telling me Neighbors and Melrose Place were better than Guiding Light and As the World Turns? Not my all time favorite daytime soap, that would be ATWT, but how isn't The Young and the Restless not the highest ranked daytime soap? It's been leading in ratings since the 90's, I believe.

But anyway, glad that Dallas was number one.

Congratulations to Dallas, but The Bold & The Beautiful shouldn't be on the list at all. General Hospital is also my favorite daytime soap, but second place of all soaps in all countries is simply too high. If Movie Web loves Melrose Place, they shouldn't forget Empire on their list, because both soaps were crazy fun, but made little sense.

Nice to see who’s at #1 but then again I am a little biased there. I’m kind of surprised Days Of Our Lives didn’t make the top 13. I was never a huge fan of that one myself but given its popularity through the years I’d expect it to be near the top.

I am glad to see Dynasty getting some respect. I know that show isn’t looked back on very fondly by most but love it or hate it it was innovative and highly entertaining.

Even though I don't know what Movie Web is and I cannot make head nor tail of their website, it's nice to see some old favourites getting a mention here. It's also refreshing to see a combination of daytime and prime time soaps.

Out of interest, is #8 the Australian series Neighbours or something different? I'm not aware of an American soap with this name, but if series outside America are included, there are a heap of glaring omissions.

Surprised Knots Landing is no.9 thought it would've done better than that.
and PEYTON PLACE should've been on the list.

Yes. Subjectively they'd both be top two for me, though I'd vacillate on the order. But this comes with the caveats that (1) I'm not familiar with most daytime shows (2) I don't know how "greatest" is defined for the purposes of this list and (3) I may have terrible taste.

Even attempting to view things more objectively PP deserves a top ten place.

Dallas is the only 1 have ever watched and happy to see it No 1

I gave up on KL when Sid died

But I do wonder who they ask in polls , most of my work mates who are under 35 -40 - havent a clue what Dallas was, who is Larry Hagman, who shot him, or who my screen saver on the phone (me with cast at SF) is. Cest la vie, it was all very different in the 1980s when it was H O T!

As Donna once said to JR, " I could swear you'd made a pact with the devil"

Of all the images you could choose for Dallas, that's a very devilish chosen few.

And as JR said to Donna: "Are you trying to flatter me or insult me? I can't make out which."

But, of course, I take it as a huge compliment (even though I can't take credit for the collage at the bottom, as you can see from the watermark).

Touché, Touché!

I fell into that one, that's brilliant!

Indeed you should take it as a huge compliment, after all that collage represents unforgettable Dallas albeit for all the wrong reasons.

The above was online from MEDIAMASS, dont know who they are, but the fact they had Dallas at no.1 was good enough for me!

Variety has named their greatest TV shows of all time. Only two classic soaps make it into the top 100: Dallas at number 78 and General Hosptial at number 88.
