I wondered why A Steel Guitar And A Glass Of Wine wasn't in Monzo's poll list, but then I remembered it was a song by the not-Neil Sedaka Paul Anka.

So sad to hear of Neil Sedaka's passing i always loved his music, i have a few vinyl albums of Neil and his 70's music is my favorite era of his music.

My personal favorite Sedaka songs are "One More Mountain To Climb" and "I Let You Walk Away" and "Laughter In The Rain" so i voted for that song. But I was suprised that "Solitaire" was not on the list.

I also prefer Neil Sedaka's material from the 70s to that from the 60s, but there are some hits I've never really warmed to, like "Bad Blood." I still wonder what was so special about that song that it reached the top of the US charts.

The poll only included songs with which Neil Sedaka reached the US Top 20 as a performer, not as a songwriter. "Solitaire" was never a Neil Sedaka single, but only an album track. Andy Williams covered "Solitaire" in 1973, scoring a Top 10 hit in the UK. The Carpenters recognized the song's potential, also covered it, and reached number 17 in the US. "Solitaire" even made it into the Hot 100 Top 10 once, in 2004, as a double A-side by Clay Aitken, peaking at number 4. While his version achieved the highest chart position, it's probably not the one most people remember.

As for Neil Sedaka as a songwriter, he had even greater success with Captain & Tennille than with "Solitaire." The duo successfully covered two tracks from his albums: "Love Will Keep Us Together," their debut single, which immediately reached number one on the Hot 100 in 1975, and "Lonely Night (Angel Face)," which peaked at number 3 in the US a year later.

I'm a little sad that Neil Sedaka hasn't appeared in any official charts since his death. While a "Best Of" album and "Laughter in the Rain" did make it onto the download charts, his death hasn't led to a resurgence in interest in his music or even its discovery for the first time.

Me too but with a exception from his 60's hits i love those songs as well, but i agree on Bad Blood, the song is okay but not my favorite Sedaka song i gues it was populair because it was a duet with Elton John.

Okay i didn't knew that i always fhought "Solitaire" was a big hits for Sedaka as well as from the Carpenters, i have to say that the Carpenters version is my favoriete it soundtrack more dramatic then Sedaka's version that soundtrack more flat.

I never heard the other version but i gues thry were not very populaire artist in my country, but I do love Jane Olivor's version from "Solitaire".

I love these two songs, i love Neil's version just as much as Captain and Tennile's version.

I agree, i did listen to most of his songs on Spotify when i heard of his passing, but i was surprised that most of his albums were not available on Spotify, but i hope it will change now he has passed away.
