New Interview with the DALLAS secretaries: Deborah Rennard, Deborah Tranelli, Danone Simpson

In the comedy scenes with Cliff Barnes, Jackie (Sherril) was quite good.
Jackie was the perfect secretary for Cliff. She never took him too seriously. I used to love how he’d always berate her and she would just roll her eyes at him. They were very good together.

My favourite of all the DALLAS secretaries was Phyllis. She was the complete package, 'A1 at Llyod's'.

Diligent, attractive and a good firm's woman that was Phyllis.

Ellie pays a rare visit to Ewing Oil. A showdown is set to happen between the matriarch and her boys, (a scene from season 9; DVD-10, 1986-'87):

Ellie: "Hello Phyllis."

Phyllis: "Hello Mrs. Ewing."

Ellie: "Is J.R. in his office?"

Phyllis: "Yes he is but ah."

J.R. is on the phone: "Say I'll get back to ya. Mama what brings you here?"

Ellie goes around to J.R.'s chair: "Sit down J.R. where I can see you and get your brother in here."

J.R.: "Something the matter?"

Ellie: "Now J.R.!!!!"

J.R. buzzes Bobby, on the phone: "Bobby, mama is in my office. She wants to talk to both of us. Can you come in here a minute? Please!"

Bobby: "Be right in."

Bobby: "Mama. J.R. What is going on?"

Ellie: "Sit down Bobby! I want to talk to you and J.R."

Bobby: "Sure!"

Ellie: "I always thought no matter what happened I'd standby my family. It was always that way with the Ewings. It was always family against all outsiders. We always stuck up for each other, even when we knew we were wrong. But no more! It as gone too far and I won't defend either of you, any longer. I can't!"

Bobby: "Mama what do you mean?"

Ellie: "I've thought about this a lot and believe me this is one of the hardest things, I've ever had to say but as far as I'm concerned you two don't deserve to own Ewing Oil."

J.R.: "Well mama this is daddy's company, you're talking about."

Ellie: "Don't you ever, ever speak his name in front of me again. You disarm his name and his company and I guess that's what hurts me the most because your daddy would have been so ashamed of you. I know he would because I sure as hell am!"

J.R.: "Well mama I know you're upset but can we talk this over?"

Ellie: "I have nothing more to say. You are both on your own now and as far as Ewing Oil goes it should have died with your daddy. It would have saved us all, a lot of trouble."

Ellie leaves the building, which Jock founded. She has left J.R. and Bobby sitting like two reprimanded children.

Was there ever a secretary that JR had sex with to get information, maybe someone from the cartel or Weststar? JR only ever had sex with his own secretaries, right? Was Afton actually his secretary for a short time?

Was Julie the only secretary for the entire management team at the beginning of the show or were there already several secretaries in season 1 aka miniseries? Julie is one of the few characters that I would have liked to have had on the show longer, but on the other hand, her death imposed one of Dallas' ground rules early on: a side character is not safe and can disappear for good at any time.

A good memory from when Dallas originally aired:

Secretaries around the world praised the show for how they were portrayed. "While the executives are off having two hour lunches, it's the secretaries who keep the office running."

I remember being impressed by that.

That's totally true. Doesn't fit the "male chauvinist pig" image often bestowed upon the DALLAS brass, does it? But then Katzman didn't seem to mind intelligent, competent women just so long as they weren't intelligent and competent under the Southfork roof.

I guess he was afraid to live with brassy, bossy babes...! (Maybe that had happened, as Howard Lakin said DALLAS was an extension of Katzman's internal life).

Over in Denver, one assumes Alexis was sleeping with her coterie of hunky male secretaries -- the revolving door of executive assistants due to his being fired following every bedroom session, or because his porno actor inflection (those damaged tonsils) just didn't work for the studio microphones.

By the final year she had a black female secretary who seemed a little dizzy -- and everybody abused her!

Thanks for sharing. Finally got some time to watch this. It was nice to see them again. :)
I think it's interesting how Danone had them change her scene with James. I hadn't heard that story before.
Yes, I was very impressed by Danone's integrity. She's a great role model for other actresses that your self respect and dignity are worth far more than furthering your career.
