New People article on Charlene Tilton

There is a very interesting article on Charlene Tilton published on people.com. It's worth reading. I knew that she didn't have a great childhood but the details mentioned here were new to me. What a strong woman.

Quite. Was JR really just her uncle? One of the plot lines hinted at but which, sadly, went on unexplored on the show.
Would’ve loved to have seen them go down this rabbit hole a little more. Were J.R. and Val involved at some point? Was there a lot more to Lucy’s story then we knew? Why did the whole subject always seem to be cut short abruptly? Was there a dark secret in the family that could never see the light of day? A lot of possibilities there.

Who knows, perhaps JR was really her Father all along.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Valene and JR were involved with each other whilst she was with Gary. Lucy is such a live wire completely unlike Gary Ewing. Could she get this from Valene rather than Gary, or is she really the off spring of her so called Uncle JR!?!

It wouldn't surprise me at all if little Lucy Ewing was actually the daughter of JR all along because going by the way she was so manipulative in the early seasons she was just as bad as her so called Uncle JR! :)

I agree. I think if they'd started dropping hints early enough and worked up to something it could've been very interesting. I wouldn't have liked it if they did what they did with Ray however and come into the idea much later on.
JR and Val on Knots Landing had some real tension but JR was also much more jovial than you'd expect him to be. This could've been quite an interesting twist.

In the October 2, 2023 issue of People Magazine Charlene Tilton is featured along with Patrick Duffy, Linda Gray, Steve Kanaly, Audrey Landers and Joan van Ark on pages 59 to 61 under the title Return to Dallas.

In the Dallas by the Numbers section, in addition to the number of episodes and the rating for the finale, the number 4 is mentioned for the 4 episodes in which Brad Pitt guest starred and the number 2 for the 2 actresses who played Pamela Ewing. Why wasn't Miss Ellie chosen for the number 2?

JR taking Lucy from Valene has to have been one of two reasons:
1. Jock and/or Ellie asked JR to have their then only grandchild brought to Southfork or

2. JR and Valene had a past or one night stand which produced Lucy.

Otherwise, why would JR care about his brother's daughter to bring her to Southfork?

Shame we were never told. Either would have been a great story especially the second one.

I would go with number 1. Valene despised JR and it wasn't in a hating an ex lover way.

Gary and Valene were teenagers when Lucy was born and being at Southfork split them up. JR didn't get along with Gary and viewed him as week. The family wouldn't have wanted Lucy raised by Val, a young mother, an outsider.
They would believe only they could provide a better upbringing due to the family unit and their wealth. They would rather have Gary's off-spring if they couldn't have Gary and he wasn't likely to settle down at Southfork.

This is my take on it;
It was wrong and clever of Jock and Miss Ellie to involve JR in getting Lucy from Val. They knew JR was ruthless enough to achieve it and maybe felt they couldn't bring themselves to do that to Val, but desperate to have Lucy.
Also it wouldn't be them hated for it in any future reconciliations, far easier for bad JR to take the blame.

I very much doubt that the encounter that resulted in Lucy was consensual. And therein lies one of the reasons for Valene's intense hatred of JR

What makes you think that it wasn't consensual? Gary loved Valene, and she loved Gary, I don't see Gary forcing himself on her. As young as Valene was, she still knew that J.R. was trouble and staying in Dallas wasn't going to end well for Gary or her and Lucy. That's why she left Texas with Lucy and hated J.R..

I was speculating that Lucy was the result of a forced sexual encounter with JR.
