Opinions changing on rewatches

My second rewatch convinced me that Bobby would have been better off with Jenna, Pam would have been better off with Mark, Sue Ellen would have been better off with Dusty, and JR would have been better off free and single.

But even being convinced of that - as a fan of all the drama - I always wanted Pam and Bobby and JR and Sue Ellen together. Weird, huh?

Every time I do a rewatch now I end up liking Mark more. I think I still prefer Pam with Bobby of course but Mark came along at a time when Bobby wasn’t paying any attention to Pam and was acting like a real jerk. Mark may have had his flaws too but he was also very likable in a lot of ways.

I always liked Mark too. We needed a good guy around whilst Bobby was gone.
The only problem was his chest. Way too hairy, like a carpet. Victoria used to look a bit scared in some of their bedroom scenes.

Now to me it´s like the end of the real "Dallas", period, including the shower scene. Or not.
Exactly. It was the end. The past dream-season felt like a bonus with a reunited, intact cast and some decent storylines. When rewatching the shower scene, I wonder more each time how the topbrass could have greenlighted sth. like that. I mean they regard the show (which gets sold internationally) in imminent danger, take a lit of money in their hand to get the old producer and Duffy back and then Katzman simply refuses to do his job he was given.

If I rewatch the series I realize that I love Dallas for three kinds of storylines which they were so great at:
- Who shot...(JR, Bobby)
- the crazy sister (Kristin, Katherine, Jessica
- the romantic couple divided by circumstances, fighting the odds (Bobby&Pam)

I wonder why they did not recreate the storylines above, sth. like:
- Shoot Miss Ellie, Pam or Sue Ellen wondering if they were meant or sb. else
- another crazy sister, maybe Donna's
- Donna&Ray as the new power couple(when VP left)

Repetition is rarely good, but they were great at creating the storylines mentioned above.

Everyone probably would’ve been much happier in hindsight but as viewers I think we would’ve been extremely bored all these years.

Which Jenna though? Morgan's kept mistress Jenna was entirely different than Priscilla's waitress Jenna.
I'm not a fan of Mark. Although his flaws seem minor in comparison to Bobby's, There was something magical about the screen chemistry between Patrick's Bobby and Victoria's Pam so I'd never want to change their pairing. Some of the storylines, however; that's another story.

I hated the Wes Parmalee plot on original broadcast but absolutely love it now.

I skip the dream season on rewatches, but for a continuation story they've all aged to much- pre dream JR JR has his regular hair colour, post dream it's silver - takes me right out of it all for the first couple of episodes.

I’m probably all alone here but every time I watch season 10 I like it less. The Wes storyline is fascinating but it all ends so abruptly. I didn’t like the fact that they made Jenna pregnant with Bobby’s baby either. It hung over Pam and Bobby like a dark cloud the entire season. The B.D. Calhoun storyline wasn’t exactly one of my favorites, although I do like the payoff with the boys losing Ewing Oil. The involvement of the Justice Department actually made for great drama but the problem is once Ewing Oil was taken out of the equation I think it hurt the show moving forward. I guess I just always looked at it as being an overrated season as they were making some mistakes. With Pam and the Ewing Oil both gone by the end of the season perhaps they should’ve ended it there. If this was to be the last season I think it works much better.

And Sue Ellen goes straight from the shirt mullet to long hair.

Jarring.

I’ve never skipped the dream season on a rewatch but I’m always intrigued by the people that do for this reason. You would think after only about a year and a half (even less) in between that jump in filming everyone wouldn’t look so different.

If one considers season 9 to be "real", then season 10 makes for an interesting "what if Bobby didn't die?" alternate timeline, but the continuation beyond that point does seem increasingly pointless.

Yes it’s weird isn’t it. In previous years they hadn’t aged but for some reason the jump from 85 to 86 is huge. I think it’s to do with the fashions as well though - everything is much more OTT

I always skip the dream and then watch it separately at the end.

apart from the aging and fashions and terrible picture quality the biggest issue in return to Camelot is suddenly the oil business is in danger

What’s amazing on 2nd watch is Pam waltzing off to the south of France with Mark Graison and thinking it was the right thing to do!
Yet another example of Pam's hypocrisy. There can be disagreements in a marriage, but meeting another man in France is
not a way to address them, to say the least
JR was right about this
