It's earnest and emotional and a little bit political, but I'm liking it. (I don't mind emotional and political but earnest often puts me off.) The cast is very likable and I like the immigrant angle. It's definitely not edgy. It's sweet and kind of old fashioned and sappy. I find myself looking forward to it each week.

I started watching the original in the '90s, but, as so often happens with "nice" characters, they ruined Bailey (Scott Wolf) pretty fast, making him a jerk on the altar of giving him layers an showing imperfections.

I'm still loving it even if some of the episodes are a little emotionally manipulative. The cast really is good.

The new version of Bailey, Beto (Niko Guardado), is my favorite of the siblings so far. I could see how his character could end up being an annoying jerk. I hope they manage to keep him as endearingly uptight as he's been so far.

I am finding that this show gets better and better with each episode. The balance between soapy drama, family drama and political drama is just right. My weekend ritual now is CW Dynasty and Party of Five back to back. The shows are polar opposites in tone. Going from the earnest trials of the Acosta family to the outlandish trials of the Carrington family is quite enjoyable for some reason.
