Patrick Mann’s FC novel.

In 1984 author Patrick Mann published the FALCON CREST novel. IMHO the novel is a very thrilling supplement, to the T.V. series. You can read it on one of the first websites devoted to the California’s Tuscany Valley programme, namely the comprehensively brilliant ‘FALCON CREST A TRIBUTE’. Richard is making the most of the opportunity when he has Angela and her neighbour Carlo Agretti in the same room. He wants to show them how much he means business, in the Tuscany Valley, (a scene from season 2, 1982-‘83):

Richard: “Actually, you know I’ve always wanted to have my own vineyard.”

Angela: “A vineyard for sale in this valley is as rare as a fine Parolla!”

Richard: “I’ve taken a fancy to your place Carlo.”

Carlo: “Yes I know! I told the lawyers you sent over I wasn’t interested.”

Richard: “I’m not giving up on you. I’m like a dog which grabs a cup and won’t let go.”

Carlo: “My vineyards are not for sale and certainly not to you.”

Richard: “My lawyers are preparing another offer. We’ll be in touch.”

Carlo: “I told you I wasn’t interested.”

Carlo and Richard continue their verbal exchange, now standing looking eyeball to eyeball.

Richard: “Sooner or later, you’re going to change your mind. For your sake I hope it’s sooner.”

Carlo: “Don’t threaten me!”

Richard: “That wasn’t a threat, believe me. I save my threats for worthy opponents, not old men past their prime.”

Carlo then splashes wine in Richard’s face. Angela is shocked and goes to leave the company.”

Angela: “Carlo I will not be part of a public spectacle!”

Carlo: “He’s after the whole valley. He won’t stop until he controls all of it, even Falcon Crest.”

Angela: “That’s preposterous!”

Carlo: “I know more about this young man than you do Angela.”

Angela and Carlo leave. Richard dries the wine, off his face.

Because ‘FALCON CREST A TRIBUTE’ is now an archive site, sometime from when I visited years ago you might have found that the above five links will not point to the page. The easiest way to read the novel is by evidently typing ‘falcon crest a tribute’ into Google and the novel will be the first option listed.


Angela goes to see Henri Denault, about her new arch enemy Richard and black mail is on the menu, (a scene from season 2, 1982 – ’83):

Henri: “It's a pleasure to meet you Mrs. Channing!”

Angela: “I just came from France.”

Henri: “Oh! France is lovely this time of year.”

Angela: “Well, I didn't go for the weather. I met an old friend of yours, Sister Marie Therese.”

Henri: “I don't recognize the name.”

Angela: “Of course you do. She told me all about your Nazi connections, in World War II.”

Henri: “That's absurd!”

Angela: “She was very convincing.”

Henri: “But obviously mistaken.”

Angela: “Was she mistaken when she told me that your code name was ‘The Dark Angel’?

Henri: “I see no point in continuing this conversation”

Angela: “Well, I do! Now, you get Richard out of my way. Because if you don't I'll have you on the front page of every newspaper, in the western world and I can do it! Good day Mr. Denault!!!”

I have read some of the novel and thought it was interesting. Angela is written as being younger; more like a diva and it is modelled on season 2, from what I looked at. One of the best seasons, in the show.

A very enjoyable version. Why was the book not more successful? No revision happened and as matter of fact in areas was better written than the T.V. show.

Why was the book not more successful?

To be honest, I'm not sure what the point of these soap books was since there was nothing new in it.
From my own experience, it was merely an opportunity to relive the storylines because there was no way to obtain Falcon Crest videotapes.
If I couldn't watch it then at least I could read about it. I've also read all the DALLAS novels.
