I still don't know how I'm supposed to do that with only a "dumb" phone and no webcam on my PC.
It's the people who own dumb devices and live off the grid that are truly free. Many of us who got sucked into the smart device craze didn't realize what we were getting into.

Why do I get the feeling that the idea of having a Guaranteed Perfectly Safe Internet Experience will actually makes things more dangerous?

This comment is not directed at Administration, it's been clearly stated that it was a choice between tellytalk-without-PM or no tellytalk at all.
Not that I would expect something bad to happen in our PMs as we knew it, although I was a little disappointed when a forum member from the Wild West contacted me, saying he had unearthed an astronomical nazi treasure and that he needed someone in Europe to curate it. With equally astronomic benefits, of course.
Obviously it needed a bit of funding to make it possible (the "obvious part" was never explained) therefore I transferred money from my paypal account, and again and again.
And then the conversation just stopped. It was all poof-poof gone.

I guess the Online Safety Act is why some photographs on here aren't showing and look like this:

I've not yet worked out why some photographs are showing and some aren't. Some entire threads are just a series of blocked photos whereas others display photos as normal. I suspect it depends on where the photos are hosted and how those websites have decided to respond to the legislation.

That's my guess as well. We haven't done anything from our end that would affect how images are displayed.

Even poor @Barbara Fan's signature is affected. Ray is standing by the cupboard as I write, ready to hand her the infamous shotgun.

yes its seems a bit odd why Imgur has shut down / blocked UK uploading photos!

Bumping this up-- I found a way to ask a particular user about something he/she said on a thread, now that we no longer have private messages: I just go to that user's profile, and make a comment to his/her wall.

The reason I say this is because @Angela Channing made a great point on the end titles thread regarding movement of film in end title sequences, and I made a post to that wall about same, and got a really informative answer that answers what it was I wanted to know.

I guess the difference is that those posts are public and so not open to the kind of abuse that the authorities are worried about.
