Yes but the course of the show changed in season 2 and it became a mess, as Kelley had already used the original ideas for season 2 in the latter part of season 1.
Anyways my point was that as far back as season 1 there was talk from Kelley about how they made him stretch out the show's episode number.

I think ABC conceived it that way. Kelley had said that ABC considered the revenge arc as an arc to lure the viewers in, same as Mary Alice's suicide on Desperate Housewives. I don't know that is how he had conceived of the plot. However, he is responsible for the mess in season 2. Then again, I don't know if he could have done anything other than walk out even in season 1. Also, how do you tell cast and crew that the network wants to give them more paychecks and you are against it?

Pretty much - which is why the writers decided to end Emily's revenge plot arc in season 3 and have season 4 as the fallout and have other characters start plotting for revenge against her. I think at least that's how I would've written it from the start; clearly Kelley felt the show had to be true to its name and tried to drag out Emily's revenge arc for season two by making it more complicated than it needed to be.

Oh wow, this was truly fabulous, like reading an old-fashioned Sidney Sheldon novel. It's tailor-made for the soap opera fans, including a bit of formulaic plotting and a superhunk too dumb to be true, and a Big Hat moment on top of everything.
I've been thrilled and intrigued, and sometimes I couldn't help but laughing out loud. The melodrama was sufficiently effective, I guess it also depends on the person who's watching it.
The title may not be Revenge, but...I shouldn't say any more.
Just watch it.
Ignore the Rotten Tomatos ratings. They know nothing.

I'm up to episode 6 and absolutely loving it. Nice to have this kind of soapy drama back on TV.

Am I the only one who looks at Rene and doesn't see Rene....?

It seems that the "Revenge" sequel, or reboot, or whatever, is finally happening Dallas and Charmed style, with a Latinxxxxx female avenger, this time:

They were talking about a re-boot when Revenge ended, with Takaeda training someone else. Emily and Aidan were not the only people he worked with.
So maybe they are finally going with this idea?

My God... Latino Reboot... as much as I like Revenge, as much as I enjoy some tropes written for South American telenovelas, as much as I like Latinos, I don't like the politically correct movement big shows are going through. I feel like every show now has a Latino version of what networks think Latinos are, and if this character is also gay and Jewish, it's like eureka! The premise used for Party of Five looks great to me, but Charmed's premise was forced (and girls aren't exactly Latinas).

Don't take me wrong, I just feel like networks are trying too hard on this, that it feels unrealistic and cheesy at times.

It's probably because it still doesn't come natural to cast latinos or afro-americans. It is still a conscious choice you feel forced to do because otherwise no one would do it. Same with casting women as the #1 lead character BTW. It's like a pat on the back to cast people who are not white straight men as lead.
But we're getting there. It's a long process. The old dinosaurs in charge of Hollywood just need to get extinct first.

I agree, exposure to non-white actors is what people need to make it feel more natural, and what should stop these actors from being type-cast as the non-white character.
But that doesn't mean they should disregard common sense. Like you wouldn't cast a white actor to play a black slave on a plantation (then again, I'm not sure it never happened!)

Actually, in early 80s, some Latino American soaps used to cast white people, or mixed raced actors, then dark them with makeup in order to play black slaves. That sounds ridiculous now, but I guess there was some kind of segregation on TV back in time.

I'm binging this show for the first time now (haven't read the thread because I don't want spoilers). I've just started season 3. Season 1 was fantastic, season 2 was good but felt a little bit too spread out, season 3 I've only just begun but it feels like some of the characters don't need to be here anymore. Why is Charlotte around still? They made her pregnant and miscarry all in the space of 1-2 episodes adding nothing to the plot, then she graduated early, went to Europe and then returned to hang around Montauk for no reason, she could have just as easily not been pregnant and been written off for college if they didn't have a plan for her. They wrote Jack off and then brought him back too for little purpose so far. Aiden feels like he could have been a 1 season character. Victoria feels less complex, can't pinpoint that one exactly.
