I guess we have to agree to disagree. I can see your points as to why it wouldn't seem the end was near, but to say there was no sense of finality about it.. I guess possibly what I'm sensing centered more around the Sue Ellen character, but I also have to think of the episode of Bobby and J.R. being trapped in the elevator. No, with new characters like Cally and McKay, and the trip overseas, I would concur that ultimately they weren't planning on ending with this season. I think with the ratings being where they were at, they probably planned on at least one more season, but were surprised when actually offered two.

It was announced that it was the tenth anniversary celebration. I don't recall any talk of the show ending then.

Crazy how time flies. I started to think we're all getting old but I know that can't be true...:)

I don't know if anyone here were fans of the original Quantum Leap, but..if you were.. I was just reflecting the other day on the final episode, "Mirror Image", and how Sam actually sees himself in the mirror for the first time in the series, and he remarks on his crow's feet..

I thought about it for a moment..and I realized Scott Bakula couldn't have been that old there, so I looked it up only to find that I'm roughly 10 years older than he was there.. o_O I'm older than Patrick ever was on Dallas..it is a bit depressing. Once you hit the 30's, the time just flies. Even older than Archie and Edith when All In The Family began.. I was going to add that at least I have J.R. and Sue Ellen to contend with now..she was a little younger than Larry than I thought. So..at least there's J.R. I'm gonna guess Ken Kercheval was younger than Hagman.
