I thought Dan Fixx was an interesting addition to the show. The bad boy biker who come good and who had a connection with the Channings. He was funny into the bargain. I didn't particularly like Carly. She became annoying with that hip hop style and went around Falcon Crest, as if she owned the place. What are your thoughts?

All the characters are in the mansion’s living room because of the bad storm, which as hit the valley. Emma has an idea, (a scene from season 7, 1987 – ’88):

Emma: “Look since we are all stuck here for a while why don’t we play a game together?”

Carly: “Yes!”

Emma: “I’ve come up with a mystery game. It’s called murder at Falcon Crest. You know it’s kind of like one of those murder mystery weekends.”

Richard: “We certainly have enough suspicious characters.”

Angela joins them, from her study.

Richard: “Hello Angela!”

Emma: “Is that alright mother?”

Angela: “Why not.”

Emma: “Think of it. Who will be the murderer? Will it be Chao-Li in the kitchen, with sharpened chopsticks?”

Angela: “Melissa in the sunroom, with an axe.”

Melissa: “Or Richard in the attic, with a blunt object.”

Maggie: “No no! I vote for Angela in the study, with a letter opener. That’s my vote.”

Emma: “Who will be the victim?”

Richard: “Don’t everybody raise their hands at once.”

Emma: “Face it we were born to play this game. I’ve already hidden lots of clues, all around the house. The object of the game is to connect all the clues together and figure out who will be the victim and who will be the murderer, before the stroke of midnight. Game is afoot.”

Someone is found in what appears to be blood. Or are they part of the game?

I didn't like either one of them, and they were an example of an "aging show" trying to self-consciously inject more youth into itself in a pointless way.

Carly was far worse, though. Their attempt to make her a comedic, goofy presence for FC was a reflection of all the show's worst problems from the period she was on it.

Absolutely awful. It wasn't the actress's fault, though.

Didn't Mariska Hargitay do very well for herself, after FC? Then there was another young pretender in the last season in the shape of Sydney but she was more tolerable than Carly. At least Sydney had something to do, other than being a messenger girl.

You can say that again Falcon Crest I. Mariska might not have made that much of an impact in the Tuscany Valley show. However she was only really starting out then and for the past 18 years she has become known as the infamous Olivia Benson.
Carla Gugino’s Sydney was a breath of fresh air in the much maligned ninth and final season. Having her bond with core character Emma over their loathsome lovers Charley and Ian was good on-screen chemistry, particularly when we got the St. James brother’s last episode ‘Merry Christmas Charley’.

The despicable St. James brothers are well and truly entrenched at Falcon Crest. They are manipulating both their wives, for their own self centred reasons, (a scene from season 9, 1989 – ’90):

Ian: “What do you and Emma talk about?”

Sydney: “Not much really.”

Ian: “Does she ask about me and Charley?”

Sydney: “We talk about a lot of stuff, different things.”

Ian: “You’re not to talk to Emma anymore and if I find out you have I shall be very angry.”

Sydney: “What if she comes talking to me?”

Charley arrives before Ian answers her.

Dan had the backstory with Melissa and Angela, which I enjoyed. There were hilarious times with Melissa and him in the Max but I didn’t like anything he had to do with Dana Sparks’ Vickie. Carly was a spoiled madam, a mere lackey for Angela. There was no need for her to return in season 8.

Carly was fun. I certainly wouldn't categorise her as a spoiled madam. I thought she was of a family with many problems.

Dan was obviously a replacement for Cole and Carly was there as the young woman, to contrast with an aged Angela. Mariska (Carly) really left the valley behind her and went on to become an actress with gravitas. Dan and Carly were ok but could not have been in seasons 1 - 4.

I kind of liked them both. Dan Fixx in particular was a good character and I really liked his scenes with Angela.
