We won't know the quality of the actual writing until we see it. Then people can decide if it's ruining the legacy or adding to it.
We can get a fair idea of the quality of writing by knowing it's on THE CW and that Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage and Sallie Patrick are at the helm.

I wouldn't expect brilliant TV.

Already Dynasty 2.0 is polarizing us posters on soapchat so imagine how it will play when viewed by a much wider audience. I'm guessing the new producers are steering this re-boot towards today's generation, not those that hold "close to their hearts" original Dynasty. That's fine, I can live with that, but if the producers are wishing to have a broad appeal (read good ratings) then so far this re-boot is going to fail.
This is not like Dallas- the new Dallas was a continuation (a bad one), not a reboot (though it became one)
I'm one of those highly critical of TNT Dallas (and to a lesser extent Lorimar Dallas in its later seasons), I've written about it numerous times. It failed because the show-runner had no concept of the history that was Dallas. When you attempt to imply that a family (Ramos) had grown up with the Ewing's you risk alienating those original fans - and it did.
I'm prepared to re-set the clock and give Dynasty 2.0 a chance, a fresh approach. My only concern is the new writers/producers are trying to hood-wink those old viewers into thinking their about to watch a re-telling of original Dynasty - it's just going to leave a sour taste in many viewers mouths - just like Carmen, Elena and Drew Ramos did in TNT Dallas.

One of the things about the CW, is that ratings that are considered low, and grounds for cancellation, the CW will consider it a hit, on twitter, the new dynasty is garnering excitement from fthe youngr fans of Gossip girl, Revenge, and other fake empire productions.

It's been negative on facebook, and these boards, because the audiences for those programs are not her, or active on Facebook, they're using twtter, Instagram, and snapchat.

True, but I'm not sure how polarizing it will be because you have 20 years of people not even seeing Dynasty. I don't think it has been syndicated that much- maybe the soap channel years ago, it's on DVD but I'd guess the younger audience (which unfortunately they kowtow to) will not have watched it to even be able to compare the two. Sure, they know the story, seen some clips on youtube or what-not, but it will succeed or fail on it's own merits. Of course us older ones will know everything but they don't even care about us. It's all about demographics. The critics of course will know and will certainly compare the two. But I remember some of the new Dallas fans not even seeing the original (and couldn't realize they were ripping off old Dallas plots but not a 10th as good as the original)

As someone rightfully pointed out to me, Riverdale is a critical hit, so there is a chance it might be good. And I think us older ones will appreciate it if the writing is brilliant. I think we all would want it to succeed simply because it elevates the original- it's complimentary to its legacy. It bolsters its appeal.

We'll see but I wouldn't be too concerned with casting right now. I remember people not being entirely thrilled that Joan Collins was coming onboard. She was mostly known then for doing those trashy movies in the 70's and some were taken aback at first because of that British accent. But for me, I don't think it's constructive to hate it before we even see it. I'd love to see it succeed even though new Dallas embarrassingly failed.

That makes me wonder how many NuDynastyFans will trample all over these forums, or - God forbid - our precious The Colbys forum.
There were quite a few loose cannons on the TNT Dallas forum. Perhaps we need to think of a strategy before all hell breaks loose?

To be fair what would they come here for? The new show has nothing to do with the old. They would only be confused in coming here. They probably cant read yet either.

Come here and say that the new Alexis is much much better than the old one?

See my point now? This is going to be a battlefield, a disaster movie of epic proportions.
Do you still have that rifle? I remember it being so flawless.

They wont have a new Alexis in season 1. Season 2 seems very hopeful at this stage.
And I seriously think they will just not bother with an Alexis anyway.

Really? How could they not. at least toward the end of the first season. I mean, in many ways, Alexis WAS "Dynasty." And it will certainly drum up press attention- which they may need- halfway through the first season announcing they are casting someone.

Perhaps. They could also be quite frightened by any comparison by their choice and Joan Collins. Who made the role Iconic. She wasn't recast and she stayed to the end. Making the show a hit. What actress is even gonna want to fill those shoes?

Also alexis, may not have been part of the Shapiros original plan, they really didn't talk about her much, during the first season, and wasn't she developed due to network pressure for a rival for DALLAS JR Ewing?

She was intended to be a fab guest star for 8 episodes I believe. I always thought they kind of resented that that she became the show. Even if it brought them success and money. It wasn't really their creation that did it, it was as much Joan Collins as it was the writing.

I believe you're right. Dynasty was close to being cancelled during that first season. I'm not sure if it was Shapiro's original plan to intentionally keep Blake's first wife hidden from view. Perhaps the character was to arrive at some point, just not as the season cliffhanger.

We need to understand their lingo. I'm sure if we insert enough LOL's and FYI's and "Like", we'll do just fine :lolo:

Actually, people already do say "FYI" in real life conversation - or at least I've seen that done on TV, ever since the '90s.

Blake's ex-wife was planned to arrive from the beginning. Alexis as she arrived and stayed--rather than have a limited episode run per Esther's plan--was pretty much the Pollocks' creation. For all we often pile on them, we have to give them that.
