The reveal of who shot JR - dialogue in vision

In light of this observation I’m starting to think Dr. Ellby may have hypnotized not only Sue Ellen but the Ewings, the viewers, and the world at large in order to pin the blame on Kristin. I’m not convinced the real shooter (possibly the cleaning lady or maybe Willie Joe Garr) isn’t still out there.
I think you might be on to something. In fact, it may well have been Dr. Elby, secretly in love with Sue Ellen, who shot JR to get him out of the picture and framed Kristin knowing she was bad news for Sue Ellen. It all makes sense now, it was you Dr. Elby, who shot JR! Regular little angel of mercy.

Yes, SE DOES say, "it was YOU, Kristin."

Okay, so the dialogue doesn't specifically use the words "It was Kristin that shot JR," but between jail baby, it was you, Kristin, and no one is going to jail - I'll handle Kristin on my own," it's reasonable to assume that the scene was filmed as a reveal.

Not saying they didn't film other reveal scenes too though. I just don't know.

Right, and the scene was obviously filmed on the soundstage, which tells me they were being careful and guarding it closely.

She says ‘it was you Kristian’ as a voice over. It isn’t said in vision

Kristian could have said jail baby for any number of reasons
You mean it was not obviously connected with the fact that JR was about to call the police?

But now that I've rewatched the scene I think you're right, the intended arrest still doesn't refer to the shooting specifically.
Without the flashback she's only accused of framing Sue Ellen, which - as an obstruction of justice - could also warrant an arrest.

Come to think of it, a shooter and a framer operating independently would have made the whodunit even better.

Exactly! The voice over dialogue changes everything and puts a completely different slant on the scene

Doesn’t Kristin using the term “jail baby” kind of clinch it though? She’s not exactly denying anything with that statement. She’s accepting the fact that prison could be her fate, not exactly something an innocent person would say in my opinion.

If JR had her arrested for prostitution -- as he'd threatened -- her baby could arrive in jail.

Could have been jailed for framing Sue Ellen or blackmail or any number of reasons. It’s clear the specific integral lines were recorded separately

Linda Gray said that she was one of the first who knew it was Kristin because she had to record the line. It was very difficult sometimes to keep the secret from her kids.
What I never understood is why they didn't let Linda record some other lines as well. Would have made it much easier for her.
I mean, they DID let several actors shoot J.R. to keep the secret as long as possible, why not make it easier for Linda by saying some extra lines?

I wondered about that too.

Linda admitted on a live daytime chat show in 1980 that her daughter had correctly guessed the identity of the culprit -- and then realized (while still on the air) that she'd made a boo-boo and that she needed to call her daughter immediately to tell her not to say anything to friends or reporters who might call to find out the answer. And as soon as Linda got her daughter Kehly on the phone, she found her daughter was already being besieged for the information.

So it only took seconds.

That would have made great sense (having Linda record multiple lines naming multiple shooters). That's an awful lot of pressure to put on someone, knowing that if anyone leaked it, she would probably get the blame.

I wonder if she did and they’ve never been released. That would be really interesting to find out.
