Dallas Top Ten Top Ten

My 12 most far-fetched, jumped the shark moments:

1. Bringing back Bobby from the dead.
2. Adding Prissy Presley to the cast and thinking she was an actress that could play Jenna convincingly.
3. The ghastly Ellie She Wrote storyline when Ellie and Clayton investigate a series of murders
4. The whole Marinos Shipping/Angelica Nero storyline.
5. J.R marrying and staying married to Cally.
6. The J.R Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest storyline when he gets stuck in a asylum.
7. Pam goes hunting for emeralds with Matt Cantrell.
8. Bobby abandoning Pam after she leaves hospital following her crash.
9. The entire Sheila Foley/Hilary Taylor b*llocks (sorry, I mean storyline).
10. J.R., Bobby, Cally and April gallivanting around Europe for what seemed like an eternity after spending the previous 12 seasons barely spending a minute outside of Texas.

My choices are ordered chronologically, because the few first times the show disappointed me, I thought: "Well, I'm sure it won´t happen again". But it did, so the shark might have jumped further, but not done as much damage...

1- Miss Ellie and Clayton get married...but off-screen ("End Game")

upload_2017-7-7_0-44-38.jpeg

"Yes we do, but not right now."

2- The execution to the Who Shot Bobby cliffhanger..."Bobby´s been shot. Bobby´s been shot? Bobby´s been shot. Who might have shot Bobby...?" Come on, only SHE could have done it... (Early Season 7)

images

"Well, I got a perm by Pam´s suggestion.
Now what could I do? I´m so bored with
my Dallas life. Ok, I´ll make Pam and Bobby
apart, sleep with JR and shoot Bobby. Then
I´ll try to poison him (if he makes it) and
stalk him until I can hit and run over Pam
in front of his eyes...Wait, this is too over
the top, I must be (day) dreaming..."

3- Letting go Morgan Fairchild to reprise the Jenna Wade role (Season 6).

images

"Oh dear cops, what are you doing here?
That corpse over there? Well, it´s my ex
Naldo. He never looked too healthy anyway."
Definitely, an improvement...

4- Hiring you-know-whom to play Miss Ellie (...) (Season 7).

images

Here is Ms. Reed using the same expression
she used on "Dallas" when she first saw Jock´s
portrait. She spent 30 years making it perfect.

5- The whole Matt Cantrell storyline..."Bobby loved emeralds..." Oh yeah, please give me a break... (Season 8)

images

Maybe all they needed was a good ad campaign...

...Continues.

6- The Dream scenario (and all it implied, story-wise and ratings-wise) (Season 8 onwards)

upload_2017-7-7_0-55-27.jpeg

7- Bombings and terrorists as regular baddies (BD Calhoun, Range War, Tommy McKay, Shei-Hillary...) (Season 9 onwards)

upload_2017-7-7_0-56-2.jpeg

8- The complete package of "The Misadventures of April Stevens"... (Season 9 onwards).

images

She truly belonged to theater...

9- The extinction of all sense of romance on "Dallas": Ray hates Donna, Cliff hates Jamie, Bobby lets Pam go after the crash, Ray cheats on Jenna asap, Afton treats Cliff as sh*t (what does she think he´s gonna do, "steal" their daughter "away" from him?), Sue Ellen unaffected by Nicholas´s death, JR hates Cally, etc.)

images

10- Where are the original cast members? No Miss Ellie, no "Dallas" (Seasons 9 onwards, too)

upload_2017-7-7_1-6-50.jpeg
The stuff "Dallas" was made of...

What else could go wrong...? Well, nothing until TNT "Dallas"...

1. The opening credits open for the first time without Barbara Bel Geddes, and then Miss Ellie comes back from her honeymoon looking remarkably different.
2. Priscilla Presley is added to the opening credits and expected to carry storyline.
3. Peter Richards hangs around with a child for hours on end, and no one seems to care...
4. Angelica Nero wears bedsheets.
5. "It was all a dream...none of that ever happened."
6. Nearly every remaining cast member is marginalized for Sheree J. Wilson.
7. The incredibly pat explanation for Wes Parmalee's extensive knowledge of Southfork, the Ewings, and his subsequent disappearance.
8. Donna is banished permanently to Washington, D.C. and Ray marries Jenna (because they had so much in common)
9. Pam is burned to a crisp in an accident that would have claimed the life of a normal person, Katherine shows up for no good reason, and Bobby tells the Ewing family to pretend like Pam never existed.
10. Ewings leave Southfork for permanent European expeditions and/or cruises.

Dallas top 10, jump the shark moments

  1. Dreary reed as Miss Ellie - shotgun now please BBG, the robot was dire
  2. the final series 13 and everything about it, Dallas RIP, it ended for me there and then although i watched out of duty, loyalty and love of a once great show but it really did suck.

  4. JR marrying Cally - ugh! The whole haileyville nonsense
  5. the introduction of second rate actors - SJW as April in particular and Katzmans love of her - bitch to saint in 2 seasons and a crap actress to boot!
  6. Mummified Pam in hopsital after the crash
  7. the whole Angelica nero/grace/Nicholas/marinos shipping storyline
  8. BD Calhoun nonsense
  9. JR and one flew over the cuckoos nest

My Dallas top 10 jump the shark moments :

1. Bobby in the shower/'it was a dream' : unbelievable!!!!!
2. The Haleyville storyline/JR & Cally's marriage.
3. James/Vanessa/those cheesy Vienna episodes...
4. JR in the asylum...
5. Kimberly Cryder, totally unconvincing/cringe-worthy as JR's mistress in season 11.
6. Donna Reed as Miss Ellie.
7. Carter McKay and those pointless storylines with his 2 kids!!
8. Bobby getting so easily over Pam!!
9. The Wes Parmalee storyline
10. I know it's not really 'jumping the shark' since those are the last 2 episodes but Conundrum aka. It's a Wonderful Life the JR Ewing version... Ridiculous!!

Pretty much agree with all of these.

1. Dream was the very definition of Jump the Shark - it had exactly the same effect as when Fonzie jumped the shark with the audience saying "WTF!".
2. BBG being replaced - no rhyme nor reason for it & completely disrespectful.
3. James/Vanessa - nufv said.
4. Pam not being killed in the crash with an oil tanker & then being taken away by someone who hated her & Bobby not giving a damn about it.
5. Angelica Nero and the whole storyline of Jack's double.
6. Conundrum - Absolute drivel and made the show even more of a laughing stock.
7. J.R getting shot multiple times by Sue Ellen but not having any longterm injury.
8. Carter McKay & his family - annoying, irritating and pointless.
9. Michelle Stevens - having a character with absolutely no redeeming features was dreadful - especially when played by someone who couldn't act.
10. Hayleyville....words fail me.

Pam is burned to a crisp in an accident that would have claimed the life of a normal person
Exactly.
I'd rather watch the explosions in the dream, at least that explains why no-one died.

The dream explanation jumpsharked the success of the series, but I don't care when a show stops being succesful, as long as I enjoy it, it's good enough for me.
Pam's non-death and ridiculous aftermath jumpsharked the story, which is far worse imho.

1. Taking the strong and capable character of season 5 (dvd) Katherine and making her suffer from erotomania and have no life whatsoever aside from trying to get Bobby just so that they could basically recycle the "sister tries to steal her sister's husband plot", make people worship the "golden couple" of Bobby and Pam even more, and give Pam more inheritances in the dream. Wasted storyline opportunities, and while Morgan Brittany was wonderful at acting crazy, they could have capitalized on her talent as an actress by making her have real storylines and expanding on her character.

2. Bobby and Katherine's "deaths". All useless with the dream!

3. JR marrying Cally. WTH? Is this a sitcom now?

4. JR being held hostage by the evil people of Haleyville and doing NOTHING to get back at them after he was free. The old JR would have bought that town or filed a lawsuit against them!

5. JR in the sanitarium. You know they are losing ideas when they are just making a parody of the play "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest".

6. Sue Ellen being able to run a multi-million dollar business empire (Valentine lingerie) with almost no business training or skills in such a short time.

7. The "calendar girls", (April and Michelle Stevens) taking over Dallas. They let untalented actresses like this have such extensive roles AND show up in the credits, but do nothing to expand the roles of awesome characters like Katherine and Kristin? What is the logic behind this decision? Simple, there isn't any.

8. The range war. I. Just. Don't. Give. A. Crap.

9. Bobby's almost neverending quest for justice after April's murder with all of that Hillary/Sheila whatever-her-name-is garbage, and all of that time in Paris. I think that Bobby actually forgot what he was supposed to be doing after a while.

10. The Vanessa and James Beaumont stuff. They basically just invent this past love of JR's and a son for him that he believes is his with no proof whatsoever. Really weak.

Honorable mention: Conundrum. A pathetic rip-off of "It's a Wonderful Life", and a pathetic end for JR.

LMAO at Katherine's hair in this picture! Did she use the same hairdresser that gave Pam her poodle perm from season 4 (dvd)!? I'm guessing that Mr. David was already booked up. Katherine told JR in that scene that she picked such an out-of-the-way restaurant for them to meet at because she didn't want people to start gossiping. But I think she took it to far by giving herself such a ridiculous hairstyle in the hopes that no one would recognize her! Lol!

It's funny that you mentioned Kimberly Cryder here, because I always nicknamed her "Ugly". I would always think to myself: "Please, don't let JR marry Ugly!" during those scenes. But at least the Kimberly Cryder storyline showed just how evil JR could really be after he basically killed her dad (that doctor dude, forgot his name.) after Ugly warned him that the guy couldn't take anymore physical stress.

But as a woman, she must have known something about lingerie, and she also knew what men liked.
I found it more believable than Pam becoming an oil tycoon.

Not much, I imagine. JR made it very clear in an early episode that he didn't care to see Sue Ellen in lingerie. So she probably didn't even buy any after that. Plus, Sue Ellen was supposed to be a "lady". Whatever that was supposed to mean on Dallas. Hence JR's dislike of her wearing lingerie. Even though there is nothing wrong with women wearing lingerie. But I also didn't find Pam's magical business knowledge very believable, either. She reads a few books, and voila! Pam is suddenly gaining respect in the oil community. The writers loved to turn Pam and Sue Ellen into Mary Sues with all of this business stuff.

I agree about JR not caring about Sue Ellen´s lingerie, he could only get excited when he could "control" someone or something. However, in Pam´s case, I do think that she had it very easy to learn how to make oil business: she just had to do the opposite to her brother...

JR had this weird mentality of what constituted marriage. My taking is he saw Sue Ellen as the perfect trophy wife and she saw in JR exactly what mother (Patricia) had promised. When we're first introduced to the couple it was expected JR had sired a child. In fact Jock made a mockery of JR when both were sitting outside Southfork and could hear Bobby and Pam giggling upstairs. That would have put a dent in JR's ego.
