The episode from season thirteen (DVD count) where JR & Bobby are stuck in the lift & we get flashbacks to Jock Ewing played by the late Jim Davis.

I love the way it ends, as JR wants to see their new offices as Bobby has relented & allowed JR to again be a full partner in Ewing Oil. JR moans "There's only one thing wrong! That damn Barnes has a bigger Office than I have!" :)

My list is a mixture of moments I thought were cute, bittersweet, fun or just great Cliffhangers. I would say number 2,6, 8 and 10 were great Cliffhangers.

1. Digger's Daughter
"I underestimated the new Mrs. Ewing. I surely won't do that again!" - JR realizes that Pam was tougher than he thought after he's failed to break up Bobby and Pam's marriage.
Also at this point we have all of Dallas ahead of us. I love that.

2. The Wedding
Cliff Barnes stands up when the priest asks if any man can show juste cause why JR/SE shouldn't get married and interrupts the wedding ceremony.

3. Old Acquaintance
Bobby and Pam kiss and make up after the (fake) Jenna has made a play for Bobby and failed to get him.

4. Call Girl
JR loses his appetite after he realizes that his ploy to sabortage Bobby and Pam's marriage actually made them solve their problems instead and Pam has moved back into the house.

5. Anniversary
JR & Sue Ellen kiss for the first time since the divorce watching a tape of the Miss Texas pageant.

6. Tangled Web
Sue Ellen catches JR in bed with Holly.

7. The Outsiders
Donna and Ray kiss goodbye and go their separate ways after he's realized she's married.

8. The Letter
Bobby and Pam decide to go ahead with the divorce even though it's not what either one of them want.

9. Royal Marriage
Bobby comforts a heartbroken Lucy telling her she did the right thing after her engagement to Kit has been broken up.

10. Barbecue Two
Miss Ellie gets a phonecall that Jock is dead.

1. Starting Over. S05E10. To me, the moment that changed the series forever. After slightly sluggish Season 4 and first third of season 5, Bobby comes home with J.R.'s son (supposedly). Pamela sees him and is overjoyed, thinking he has finally brought home a baby for them to adopt! I gasped. A stunning twist that energized DALLAS and set it on the path for its Season 6 and 7 greatness. Also, the look on Bobby's face is priceless.

2. Barbecue Two. S05E12. A true classic. Miss Ellie receives a call... the devastating news that Jock's helicopter has gone down and "they say... they say... he's deeeeaaaad." I will never forget my father getting so into it, trying to guess: "It's Jock, he's going to be dead!"

AnvZvd4.png

3. Tangled Web. S06E25. An ending I'm sure we all recognize: Sue Ellen walks in and sees J.R. and Holly in bed together. Sue Ellen at her victim-best. The show will try to recapture the magic of this but will never be able to.

G1Bluhg.png

4. The Quality of Mercy. S07E05. Season 7 is particularly hard to choose from. It feels like every episode almost is a classic. But I never thought I'd see DALLAS tackle euthanasia, which it did so brilliantly with Mickey's horrifying accident and Ray's decision not to make him live the rest of his life paralyzed. I still get chills. While there are some great Pam endings this season and I wanted to use them ALL, this one's very unique in the show and deserves its spot.

5. Oil Baron's Ball III. S08E08. Season 8 is a great season for Pam. Principal's acting is phenomenal and she practically carries the season with her desperate search for Mark. But this moment isn't about Mark. Thanks to J.R.'s cruelty, Pam finds out along with the rest of the world that Bobby and Jenna are to be married. Bobby and Pam longingly look at each other. The ending is one of the most classic Pam freezeframes (and there were a lot of them during this era of the show).

CMrhils.png

6. Odd Man Out. S08E14. Jenna wakes up on the floor of a hotel room. The police are screaming at her and holding her at gun point. Naldo's dead. She did it. Thrilling stuff!

FUlUSYi.png

7. Bail Out. S08E17. Another Pam classic (and probably my absolute favorite). Pam finds out that Kane has been lying to her. She slaps him and learns that J.R. has been gaslighting her, and sending her all over the world in search of Mark.

kw5Y4g5.png

8. Nothing's Ever Perfect. S09E26. A hugely problematic, drawn out storyline, but Angelica's murder of Nicholas with a hat pin is classic Season 9. It doesn't get more memorable than that. DALLAS even attempts an artsy freezeframe.

Ti4g9tW.png

9. Once and Future King. S10E04. Another Miss Ellie classic. She visits Wes. He's got Jock's things. Wes says, they've always been his. Bel Geddes serves classic melodrama freezeframe.

lyRYmJc.png

10. The Second Time Around. S10E08. Pam's last solo freezeframe and a great surprise ending. Ray tells Bobby that Jenna is pregnant with his child -- and Pamela has overheard!

k75Ne7q.png

Some Honorary Mentions:

The Quest. S04E15. One of the first ones that usually comes to mind. Sue Ellen has been watching. She sees a man in a limousine. The limousine drives off. Sue Ellen runs out after it: "Oh dear God, it can't be!" We had no idea what was going on. Thrillingness.

yAA8f9T.png

When The Bough Breaks. S0720. A rarity for DALLAS to have an ending for a non-core character. The Peter story was fascinatingly bizarre but, when I rewatched this episode a few months ago, I was stung by how poignant and sad this ending scene is. Sue Ellen visits Peter and breaks things off with him, leaving the young man-boy crying. DALLAS would never recapture heartbroken youth so well ever again.

After the Fall/Digger Redux. S011E02. A great twist, a great ending, a wonderful freezeframe. Too bad it went absolutely nowhere.

Excellent choices @JROG, had I remembered about the ending to Starting Over I probably would have included it in my top 10. Victoria's acting in that scene is awesome and it was great it how it brought together 2 storylines (Pam's breakdown and Kristen's baby) in a completely unexpected way.

I love this ending, Christopher Atkins played it so well. His was a character that was difficult to like but he made Peter seem so heartbroken and diminished in that scene that it was difficult not to feel sorry for him. A genuinely moving Dallas moment.

Interesting how Phil Capice was given all the credits as Executive Producer until after the dream season.

Not as interesting but in season the first part of season 8 only, they changed the position of the Executive Producer credit to the bottom third of the screen instead of the top third.

Really enjoying this topic. People have put down some GREAT freeze frames!!!

I'm going to go with Pam's freeze frames as obviously I love her lol but other characters had some great moments to tune us in to the next episode aswell

This is difficult to order, as I really was wowed by some of these but here goes...

1. Oil Barons Ball III where JR announces Jenna's engagement. The look on Bobby and Pam's faces :-( very moving television

2. Resurrection where I had no idea at the time Mark was returning and Pam fainted in his arms. So touching. So romantic

3. The Winds of Change where Pam tells JR 'see you in the office partner'. So cool, haha JR. shame about the lack of follow up with what could have been a grand storyline with those two leading the show for the rest of the season but still one of the greatest moments on the show in this episode

4. Bail Out where super acted and spot on hurt and wild Pam slaps Gerald. Not overdone. Played perfectly

5. The Letter, so sad, my heart went out to both Pam and Bobby.

6. The Long Goodbye where JR circles Pam like a shark and threatens her to stay away from his brother. Menacing.

7. Family where Pam and Jacqui see Mark's car

8. Dead Ends where Pam is in the Hong Kong hospital and finds the man is not Mark :-(

9. Fools Rush In where Pam finds out from Jerry about Mark

10= Quandary where Pam and Mark have a very steamy scene in the dream season. That was hot

10= Love Stories where Pam hears that Mark's plane has gone down

Special honour mention to the fabulous Sue Ellen in Tangled Web and The Quest. Superb!!

Good choices BF but you may have to come up with another one because your number 6, Swansong, was an end of season cliffhanger.

I always liked Kristin's freeze-frame at the end of "Full Circle," when Jordan tells her she ought to get away from Dallas, because she might run into JR. She then responds cryptically, "You're right, Jordan, I just might."

Least realistic storylines

Brought to you by @Kenny Coyote

To make this easier to tally, could I ask that you give your ‘least realistic storylines’ a title that I can follow. Post away your thoughts and reasoning’s behind your choices because it’s always fascinating to learn why, but try and create a title, thank you

6. Kimberly Cryder totally unconvincinng as a potential fling for JR.
7. Michelle CEO of Ewing Oil.
8. The Leanne de la Vega storyline (as if you could dupe JR that easily...).
