1. Sue Ellen & Dusty
2. Sue Ellen & Cliff
3. Sue Ellen & Peedur
4. JR & Holly
5. JR & Kristin
6. JR & Mandy
7. JR & Afton
8. Ray & Bonnie
8. Sue Ellen & Jerry romance (I wish)
9. Mitch and that hilarious older patient (bit inappropriate on several levels lol)
10. Miss Ellie & Wes romance (I wish)

Mark and Pam obviously would be my number one but the actual romance really started after she had seperated from Bobby so ‘affair’ sounds the wrong word for them haha

Kudos to the mention @Toni of angeligrace and very scary but entirely plauseable charli and Darius ;-)

Interesting to see how differently we define what an affair is. I wouldn't call it an affair if not at least one of the characters were in a relationship with someone else. So therefore Lucy & Mickey wouldn't be an affair IMHO. But maybe that's just me...

Anyway I'll vote for the following affairs:

1. Cliff & Sue Ellen
Probably the ultimate affair in the sense of the consequences it brought with it. The whole "who's the daddy" storyline really worked.

2. Sue Ellen & Dusty
I believe they really loved each other and wanted to make a go of being together. Yet when it was no longer an affair it somehow didn't work out...

3. JR & Julie Grey
They were supposedly seeing each other for years so she must have been JR's longest affair.

4. Sue Ellen & Nick Pearce
He ended up paying with his life for their affair!
He loved Sue Ellen and she must have loved him too or else his death wouldn't have brought out such an extreme reaction of hatred in her.

5. Donna & Ray
I loved the way they met and how it opened up her eyes to that she needed and wanted more in life than what she currently had in her marriage with Sam.

6. James & Michelle
Well he was married to Debra Lynn all along so their whole relationship was nothing but one big affair...
Also so devious when they first hooked up on Cliff Barnes' sofa...

7. JR & Katherine
Such a devious duo, together their scheming managed to break up Bobby & Pam...

8. JR & Mandy
Because she was probably the most significant of all of his mistresses, with the exception of maybe Julie...

9. Ray & Bonnie
Only because it gave Bonnie a well deserved punch in the nose courtesey of the mrs when she found out! ;)

10. JR & Vanessa
James is a product of their affair. I know lots of people don't like him but I do.

Honorable mention to Ray & Sue Ellen's hook up "It's Mrs. Ewing to you." I don't know if one drunken mistake could be called an affair though...but it sure was funny! :lolo:

1. Sue Ellen and Cliff
The first one that came to mind. I think of this as THE Dallas affair. The characters' (different) motives were entirely believable and it added a new, personal layer to the feud.

2. Sue Ellen and Dusty
Their initial meetings showed a soft, honest side to Sue Ellen's character that was previously unseen. And the chemistry was great.

3. JR and Kristin
There were never such devoted sisters.

4. Bobby and Pam
If Pam had been faithful to Ray, there may have been no Dallas. The early tension between Bobby and Ray was fantastic. And they dabbled in affair territory in their Season Seven reunion while Bobby was still technically with Jenna.

5. Ray and Sue Ellen
A rare example of soapy revenge sex staying between the two parties. Which made me feel particularly privileged as a viewer-stroke-witness.

6. Ray and Bonnie
I love that poignant, wordless moment where Donna watched Ray as he slept, weighing up if he was worth fighting for.

7. JR and Garnett
JR at his playground best, not resting until he gets to play with the other boy's toy. This time the consequences were long term for Ray and another Ewing brother.

8. Jock and Julie Grey
The classic emotional affair, handled perfectly by Miss Ellie.

9. JR and Holly
Worth it all for that rather magnificent doe-eyed, lip quiverin', chest heavin' freeze frame as Sue Ellen caught them in the act.

10. Ray and Donna
Introducing a new character as the other woman is hard to recover from. Unless the character is played by Susan Howard.

Special mention:

JR and Abby
If it had been shown on Dallas rather than Knots Landing, this would have been at the top end of my list. A two-way crossover could have been interesting here.

I guess this is about extramarital affairs. and then it doesn't matter how long it lasts.

The 4 that I remember enjoying:

1. John Ross & Emma
2. Sue Ellen & Peter
3. JR & Kristin
4. Sue Ellen & Dusty (she finally got the courage to leave JR and Southfork, only to find out that Dusty had died in a plane crash (?). And then she had nothing!)

1. Katherine prepares Bobby’s lethal injection
Season Seven - "If At First You Don't Succeed"
critique-dallas-episode-164-if-at-first-you-dont-succeed-1-copy.jpg

As a primary school boy, working out whodunit - and why - way ahead of the reveal was a satisfying feeling (even if it was pretty blooming obvious). This was the moment of vindication for me after a long summer of conjecture. Even feeling cautiously certain about who the attempted killer would turn out to be, right down to motive, the reveal still blew me away, thanks to Richard Lewis Warren's frenetic, driving music accompanying the POV shots leading up to that moment of seeing the Angel Of Death in all her vengeful glory. The staging is nothing short of epic and I still find it as exciting all these years later.

2. Digger’s deathbed confession
Season Two - "Jock's Trial - Part II"
dallas-scene-of-the-day-jocks-trial-part-2.jpg

The Digger/Ellie/Jock triangle. Jock's murder trial. Pam's Barnes bloodline fuelling the feud. All the threads came together with one shocking admission after another. As endings go this is pretty definitive, and the dialogue is crisp enough to honour that.

3. Jock tells Ellie he loves her and asks her to keep the family together if he should die
Season One - "Bypass"
critique-dallas-episode-9-bypass-11.jpg

Jock and Ellie not being the most demonstrative of couples, the underlying discomfort of both having this conversation neither wants to have makes it feel very special. It's certainly one of Jim Davis's finest scenes. And then there's the foreshadowing.

4. Bobby beeps and bows out
Season Seven - "Swan Song"
hqdefault.jpg

I may be too young for JFK and Marilyn, but I clearly remember where I was when Bobby Ewing died. The energy in this scene has long reminded me of some Knots Landing's Daniel restaurant scenes where all the assembled characters attempt to put their personal crises to one side for a particular event, but the tangled webs nevertheless form an atmosphere that wouldn't work as well if they were successful in forgetting their own stuff. It's what great melodrama is all about.

5. Miss Ellie and Dr. Danvers discuss her surgery
Season Two - "Mastectomy - Part I"
critique-dallas-episode-38-mastectomy-part-1-1.jpg

Not only a wonderful demonstration of the talent of Barbara Bel Geddes, but also a perfect example of the chemistry Dallas's tertiary characters brought with them. There's a lot going on here: the history between Ellie and Dr Danvers and the delicate balance of friendship and professionalism; Ellie processing life changing information and being given the information by two male characters, all three conscious that they won't fully be able to understand what she is going through. John Zaremba as Dr Danvers quietly gets across his character's understanding of the significance and of his own limitations in this situation. He oozes empathy. It's beautiful.

6. Kristin visits JR after the shooting and taunts him
Season Three - "Nightmare"
hqdefault.jpg

"Don't you worry Kristin. When I get out of here you'll get yours."
More foreshadowing. On a number of levels.
^ This actually started out as my #2 choice. That's how tough this round is and how many times I've re-jigged the entries.

7. Sue Ellen gets a cold reception after JR's shooting
Season Three - "No More Mr. Nice Guy - Part I"
in-a-scene-from-the-american-television-series-dallas-cast-member-in-picture-id51472597

"Sick?! You mean drunk! ...Dr Elby hasn't done you a bit of good. You need to be back in that sanitarium."

8. Digger visits Ellie
Season Two - "Mastectomy - Part I"
250px-Diggerbarnes.jpg

The wild flowers tell everything about the history of these two and the kind of relationship they once had. There's a beautiful tinge of regret.

9. JR comes to, is asked if he saw who shot him... and turns to look accusingly at his lip tremblin’ wife.
Season Three - "No More Mr. Nice Guy - Part I"
critique-dallas-episode-55-no-more-mr-nice-guy-part-1-21.jpg

After the Summer of Dallas and JR's absence for the entire episode the viewer has as much hanging on his first words as the characters. In a skilfully subtle touch that's both genius and agonising, they'll all have to wait a little longer.

10. Mickey asks Ray to pull the plug if it comes to it
Season Six
CqaF7ImWgAAK_nM.jpg

Given the tempestuous start of their relationship this was quite the journey.

1. Bobby's death bed monologue to his family before he dies.
2. Jock visits Ellie in hospital before her operation and she says to him if it's cancer "will you leave me like you left Amanda?"
3. Digger's death bed monologue in which he reveals he isn't Pam's biological father.
4. After Sue Ellen give birth, Jock arrogantly declares the child's name is "John Ross Ewing II".
5. Ray's mercy killing of Mickey
6. Jock tells Sue Ellen that JR may be dying and "you're out gallivanting around someplace" to which Sue Ellen replies "I wasn't gallivanting.", Kristin says "Sue Ellen was sick" to which Jock snaps "Sick? You mean drunk!"
7.
After the crash, Mickey tells Lucy not to visit him any more but she refuses to leave him.
8. After JR is shot he's asked who pulled the trigger and he looks over at Sue Ellen who looks guilty.
9. Sue Ellen visits Cliff after his suicide attempt and JR comes in. She tearfully tells JR they drove him too it and she won't marry him if Cliff dies.
10. Ray visits Donna in hospital and Senator Dowling arrives putting campaign signs around the door before entering.

At risk of waiting too long and then not getting my vote in in time, I will say right up there is the dining room scene where JR says to Lucy to get that surgeon of hers to make her a new face, preferably one without a mouth lol and I’ll wait til I get some inspiring ideas from other fans on these scenes ;-)

Back to the hospital scenes, Cliff was genuinely lovely and caring when Jamie fell under all those drums. He was very attentive to her and touching. And then it never happened??!!

my top 10

  1. Acceptance - all reminiscing about Jock and camera is on Miss Ellie looking more upset, Bobby looks at her and she gets up and runs into SF kitchen (then smashes the good china)
  2. Julies return - JR says daddy is with Julie Gray right at this minute and i want to know what you intend to do about it, Momma is not best pleased and JR and Bobby have words
  3. A house divided, Bobby packs his bags, leaves SF and says bye to Momma
  4. Head of the family, the ewings turn up for Dinner after Jock dies and John Ross sits in Jocks chair and JR says he really is a Ewing as john Ross grins sweetly
  5. BBQ 4 - when The Ewings are sitting down to dinner and Momma and Clayton appear back from jamaica and Clayton sits in Jocks chair and Bobby and JR look none too happy
  6. Election - when JR is probing Pam abut Cliff, young man, never married and Pam says he was engaged to be married to a girl in NY but - she died and JR and Jock begin to think they can use this and Lucy says do you mean to tell me he is .... and Momma says I dont like the tone of this conversation and pam says I know i dont.
  7. the scene S4 -where JR tells Lucy to get her new husband to make her a new face, one without a mouth
  8. Mini series – Spy in the house – when Bobby asks his family to believe in his wife (after Julie G passed files onto Cliff) and JR says you are asking for too much

1. First proper family dinner after Jock's death and little John Ross sits in Jock's chair. It feels a bit like a passing of the torch. The patriarch is gone but the promise for the future is there. (Head of the family)

2. BBQ 4 - when The Ewings are sitting down to dinner and Momma and Clayton appear back from jamaica and Clayton sits in Jocks chair and Bobby and JR look none too happy

3. Mini series – Spy in the house – when Bobby asks his family to believe in his wife (after Julie G passed files onto Cliff) and JR says you are asking for too much

4. Bobby brings April home for dinner (she's moving in with them due to the Tommy threats)

5. Acceptance - all reminiscing about Jock and camera is on Miss Ellie looking more upset, Bobby looks at her and she gets up and runs into SF kitchen (then smashes the good china)

6. The Family dinner in the first Dallas TNT episode. It was nice to see the family all gathered again even though Bobby brought them bad news about selling Southfork.

7. Cally arrives at Southfork and says she is the new Mrs. Ewing and Bobby gets a good laugh about it.

8. The Search - Bobby, JR and Ray returns at the end and notifies Miss Ellie that her husband is dead.

9. Sue Ellen shows JR the morning paper with the Valentine Girl in it for breakfast. He is really angry and she taunts him.

10. Lucy and Miss Ellie have a late night talk about Jock when Clayton has amnesia.
