You're right, we can't vote way out of these perpetual wars.
We can and should vote our way out of women being denied criminal healthcare because they happen to be pregnant, Americans being murdered on the street by masked government thugs, etc.
The voting public would probably be more willing to do so if they didn't have to make endless concessions to the military industrial complex. People also tend to vote based on their pocketbook. Both parties compete to see who can cater to the whims of Wall Street and the corporations the most. If the voters feel screwed over by the party in power, they often vote for the other party. Unless that changes (and I have no reason to believe it will), the door will remain open for fascist, authoritarian demagogues to take control.
Trump was at least smart enough to pretend to be pro-worker and anti-war on the campaign trail, but we all know that campaign rhetoric is often bullshit. Just ask Obama.
