The trailer is more or less everything that I expected it to be. The CW doesn't do shows about older people and given the team behind it, I knew it would likely just be Gossip Girl with the bitchiness turned up to ten. The settings look pretty lavish though. I wonder will they be using the Tyler Perry house throughout the series or was it for the pilot only?

Anyway, back to the action. From the trailer, some of it seems a bit try-hard, especially the catfight. I'm presuming they felt they had to throw it in there, given that the original is so associated with brawling. The lines are a bit obvious too. I will watch the series though, just to see how it goes but I'm not expecting wonders. And as others pointed out, the backing track in the trailer is dire. I'm presuming that The CW have a go-to catalogue of licensed music that they fire into their shows which is why they all sound so generic. If they want Dynasty to become a pop culture show, they need to use relevant music. Not something that wouldn't sound out of place on an episode of Nash Bridges circa 1996.

I honestly expected more seeing how The O.C bombed so bad towards the end. It was only four bloody seasons and it was shit from the second season. I thought maybe they'd have learned their lesson. Obviously not.
Networks never learn their lessons. They just hand the next project off to the next set of hack producers.

They make up for it in volume... shhhhh!

I saw a defensive comment on the YouTube page of the trailer: "It's a f*****g soap, what did you expect?" Which, for some strange reason, takes me back to 2012-2014. ;)

I guess it's been too long since most of Peyton Place and Knots Landing, early Dynasty and the first half of Dallas had been on the air. There's been too much trash in the meantime, soiling the soap genre for good.

People don't seem to get a soap opera can actually be good.

Cristal and Fallon's pre-wedding cat fight is so very this...

I forget how hideous this scene was. The nonsensical set-up, the silly choreography, the awful music...

I doubt the current writers had the chance to talk to the Pollocks, and De blasio before they past on, and the Shapiros are not what they used to be, so they have to use what they know.
Still if they watched DYNASTY and got what was great about it. If they actually saw and understood what worked and what didn't then this reboot could have been wonderful. They just didn't get it... They made it some big campy parody like that Guilty Pleasures thing from a few years back.

To the general public that was Dynasty, even back in the eighties. People didn't really talk about the stories, and the depth of the characters, they talked about the glitz, the glamour, the catfights, and the fashion.
I don't think that's entirely true. Those aren't the only reasons people watched or talked about it. People would have liked the characters and been invested in them and the story. At least for the first few seasons.

Exactly what i expected, utter crap. Congratz, CW! :D
Just HOPE they don't have the rights to use Bill Contis Dynasty theme for this, using the same name for it is bad enough.

This is exactly what I expected, and warned people about. Sadly. If you considered the people behind it, and the network it was developed for, how could it ever be anything else?

But the one thing that surprised me is this interpretation of Cristal, which is all sorts of wrong. No, Cristal should NEVER be a golddigger, even just a possible one. The whole POINT is that she was a kind, smart, tough, honest woman who genuinely loved Blake and couldn't care less about money. Here, she's a vapid 20-something, who CATFIGHTS WITH HER FUTURE STEPDAUGHTER ON THE VERY FIRST EPISODE. Ugh. I HATE that her introduction to Steven and Fallon is while being pinned down by Blake, fucked on top of a desk, just so there can be a lame double entendre joke. But nobody knows how to write a character like Krystle anymore. DYNASTY itself didn't, after the first two seasons. I will say this, however: The actress seemed decent enough, as decent as you can come off on a trailer.

As expected, the guy playing Steven comes off much better on screen than some of his pics, and the stuff with Sammy Jo, cliche and obvious, was kinda hot.

It'll be trash. I'll be watching.

That line at the end from Sammy Jo where he says he's not the black sheep of the family she is, implies that Cristal is very different in this version. Which furthers the idea that there is no need for Alexis. Fallon and Krystle would be the rivals though out.

Oh, God. I didn't think of it that way: Cristal as Alexis???!!! Serving that storyline function in the show? Surely not!

Brings me back to when I made that comment that Alexis might not matter that much/never be a huge factor in this show....
