Back in the '80s, we used to make jokes about Sammy Jo having a sex change -- not to appease Steven but just out of her own perversity: "...once I was Sammy Jo --- now I'm Sam Joe."

Yikes! the first thing I noticed is that they are using the same type music that TNT Dallas would put in their promos- which is not a good sign. After watching, it's apparent this isn't really Dynasty- they are just using the same names and a few characteristics of the characters to create a totally different show. Which isn't a necessarily bad thing if it was good- but this looks awful to me and I have no interest in it. It will now take fantastic reviews to get me to check it out.

So I've just watched the trailer. In my honest opinion this is bad, beyond belief. It's everything I didn't want Dynasty 2.0 to be. Not one redeeming character. It's just more of the same, two dimensional characters without heart or soul. That scene with Blake and Cristal on the office desk just reeks of desperation - no class. Sorry folks but I don't see this lasting any longer than TNT Dallas.

And if that's their market so be it. Like we haven't seen this type of show done a million times before. The problem with creating shows like this to cater for the youth market is they'll drop you like yesterday's fashion.

The original Dynasty started on such a solid footing with season 1 in terms of vision and characters, that it took a while to get off the rails and lose any claim to coherence (Despite loving the early Adam story in seasons 3 and 4, Steven's plastic surgery was perhaps that moment for me. He did not even spend a moment wondering "is my hair straight now because I turned straight?" A simple recast would have been preferable like they did with Fallon). And CW's (and this team's) own Gossip Girl had a more solid beginning than this. Maybe the trailer is not an indication of the pilot and somehow miraculously something more enjoyable shows up on our screens.

The target audience for the network that will air it (The CW) is 18 - 34 year olds. So I'd guess we might not even see much of Blake on the show, considering anyone over the age of 35 on a CW show is usually a secondary or background character.

You're absolutely right. The implication that all these characters incorporate traits of Alexis means those characters become homogenized. It looks like we're witnessing a competition on who delivers the best put down. This is exactly what turned me off the original. The original premise of Kyrstle entering a world she knew little about was enticing. The slow pacing of Dynasty - in hindsight - actually helped it by cementing the characters so by the time Alexis arrived in season 2 it gave the show its foothold on the viewer. Dynasty 2.0 looks like all the characters have been shot out of the same cannon. The trailer did not offer a character I liked. They're just all mean.
Modern television, especially american broadcast doesn't do slow pacing, that type of storytelling ended in the late eighties/early nineties.

Well then definitely time to change that. HBO's Game of Thrones for example has VERY slow storytelling at times and no weird camera shaking or quickly zooming up on faces and has become the most successful show in the world.

The broadcasters really haven't learned from the streaming services, and the premium cable channels, plus the fact that they now develop their shows in house, means that any new talent they have gets indoctrinated into the creative culture of that networkm or they go to the same creators over, and over again.
Fake empire has already adapted two other properties for the CW, The Carrie Diaries, and Gossip Girl
Gossip girl was originally a book series, ike the Vampire diaries, and of course The Carrie Diaries was of course based on Sex and the City, of course in oreder for the audience to connect with The Carrie diaries, they were meant to watch the original series, but the demo likely hadn't.

And that's why they will all dissappear in some years from now ...
This new dynasty is likely to continue because dynasty is a property completely owned by CBS/WB, so every bit of profit goes to those companies, and by rebooting they can still give the Shapiros, the residuals, but they don't have to negotiate with the actors from the orgiginal show, and by setting it, and filming it in Atlanta, they can take advantage of Atlantas filming tax breaks.

Sounds good, then they can take all the time they need to develop and eventually tweak it into the proper direction if the ratings are going down.
One can only hope they don't make such an insane overseas deal like TNT did with their Dallas.
