Was Losing Out On The Asian Oil Leases Really Enough Reason For Seth Stone To Commit Suicide?

I recently saw the clip of Bobby practically threatening the widowed Marilee Stone (Bobby was totally out of place, but that's another story), with a long winded court battle if she continued her lawsuit against the Ewings. My question is, yes, Seth took a financial hit, but was he totally ruined? Looking at their house and the way Marilee took over, they still had plenty of money. If anyone (suicide is NEVER the answer) should have at least thought of suicide, it was Vaughn Leland. He borrowed money he didn't have and was wiped out.

Plus, being a member of the cartel and a successful oilman, there's no way he'd gamble their entire fortune on one oil deal. Sure, he'd lose a lot, but financially, they should have been OK.

Some people are just psychologically fragile in different ways. And being married to Marilee couldn't have been easy.

Nice idea: in DALLAS' phantom Season 15, the police reopen the cases of Julie Grey, Kristen Shepard and Seth Stone. Naturally, JR is suspected in the first two, while Marilee is looking a little suspicious of her husband's demise.

Presumably, they'd both ultimately be cleared. And the writers (preferably Paulsen) would work out the detail... But just think of the drama -- especially if Sue Ellen has decided to finally release her movie, and JR has become convinced he might be the offspring of Digger Barnes and not Jock.

It's been a while since I watched but my recollection is that Seth was ashamed at the failure while running his wife's company, rather than the specific loss.

Plus we can surmise that Marilee was shrewd enough to keep a lot of her finances separate from both Seth and the company, to explain how she rebounded so fast.
I mean, being married to Marilee may have been reason enough.

Was Seth gay? Marilee was shrewd, rich, lusty and kind of foxy. Seems like she'd have been a much better wife than most of the neurotic nutty women on the show.
Don't know about being gay - but knowing Marilee she probably kept his testicles in her purse.

it’s hard enough being like 3 different people in less than a year, but when you walk in on your wife in bed with the star linebacker at SMU one night and the next morning you lose a good chunk of her family fortune, that’s more than some people can take…

I really like the angle of Marilee having something to do with it. Would have made for some great television!
