The Bold and the Beautiful Watching The Bold and the Beautiful

They had terrific chemistry when they had a short reunion a number of years ago when Quinn was new on B&B. They were quite wild together in the bedroom. ;) Wyatt's parents have it.

Thank you! I don’t think I was watching much at that time. I forgot all about that little reunion of theirs.

I just don't like Taylor's wig, so far I don't like anything about the new Taylor. The expression on her face tries to be too similar to Hunter Tylos. A clone of Hunter Tylo was cast for Taylor, while an actor was selected for Ronn Moss who didn’t match him visually or theatrically, isn't that strange?!?

Wow...just wrong on so many levels. As if recasting the role of Ridge wasn't bad enough we now have the ridiculous concept of recasting Taylor. While we're at it why not recast Brooke and Eric. Such is the level of stupidity surrounding this soap why not resurrect Stephanie Forrester and recast her?

Dumb...just dumb.

It's that time of year when Soap Opera Digest picks up the best and worst of the year. Here are the results that include B&B.

Best Returns: Sheila and Deacon
Most Rejuvenated Character: Carter
Most Shocking Twist: Quinn and Carter's Affair
Worst Murder Mystery: Who "Killed" Vinny

Do you agree with the choices? That Vinny murder mystery was really bad, I have to agree.

It isn't a wig. Krista Allen really wanted to look like Hunter so she picked a classic Taylor picture and looked up a video tutorial on how to cut your own hair and followed it. She went all in to look like Taylor.

I don't mind the recast at all. Since Hunter didn't want to come back, I've wanted a recast. It's simply too strange that Taylor is missing in action considering her children and grandchildren are in LA. It was especially strange when Thomas came close to dying, when Steffy got married and when she had her son. And then when Sheila came back as a threat to Steffy and her family. A protective and loving mom like Taylor would never stay away. Either kill her off or recast. I prefer recast to even the field on the Logan-heavy scene.

Best Returns: Sheila and Deacon
Both fell flat for me. Sheila’s return felt so anticlimactic the way it was handled. As for Deacon, he’s back a little over two months and the character just doesn’t seem to be evolving at all. It’s the same conversations between him and the other characters every episode. I’m not holding it against him but both returns were disappointing to me so far.

Sheila disappointed me more than Deacon. When it comes to Deacon, I still see options, even drinking together with Brooke, who knows? But what should happen to Sheila? Who should trust her? Will she shoot around again when nothing works? I suppose that she will rather disappear into oblivion without much drama like last time.

There’s really only one thing the character hasn’t done, and that’s drop a nuclear bomb on Forrester Creations, the mansion, and the entire cast. But I would assume they’re saving this for the last scene if the show ever gets canceled.

It seems to me that they want to keep her on much longer this time than just a few months. That's probably why Sheila hasn't done anything horrible yet. Between 1995-1998, Sheila was quite tame. After all crazy things she did between 1993-1994, the writers probably realized that they had to keep her criminal ways to a minimum or else it'd be too unrealistic to keep her out of jail. B&B is afterall the most realistic soap of them all. Not too much sci-fi fantasy plots. Sheila would go straight back to prison if she did something criminal. Same with Deacon.

I think the writers want to slowly make Deacon & Sheila part of the families. Two more black sheep in the 3 big families, not just Quinn and Bill. Maybe I am wishful thinking. But I feel that would be good long-term planning. Can't just have nice characters. It's much more interesting to have many characters who often clash. Enemies teaming up against a common enemy. New relationships between characters who should dislike each other. Characters bitching about each other simply because they can't stand each other, not because they are in a constant love triangle story.

If B&B don't write in Jacqueline MacInnes Wood's 3rd pregnancy, Steffy can suddenly go missing while the actress is on maternity leave. Imagine if Sheila is suspected for her disappearance. Major storyline possibility.

It's one of the reasons why prime and daytime serials don't resonate with me anymore. When the writers decide to place a major character in harms way you know they're going to survive because the actor portraying said character has probably signed a 7 year contract. It's all counter-intuitive.

The same reasoning could be applied to Sheila and Deacon but more so Sheila. I'd imagine most casual viewers would be looking at the character of Sheila and thinking, considering her past the most logical thing to do would be for any character to slap a restraining order on her. Of course this doesn't fit the narrative the writers are going for here but when viewers are questioning how dumb are the Forrester's for allowing this woman back into their lives we begin to question why we are watching this crap. Sheila might have been fun in the past but now it has become comical.

Deacon is something else. He has payed for his sins. I've always liked this character/actor. There is a depth to him which should be explored further. I recall some terrific scenes between him and Stephanie back in the day when she had Deacon open up about his youth. It was confronting and raw but you knew both actors were relishing the scenes.

From the little I've seen this time around Sheila should only be used for short stints and then disappear. Deacon on the other hand I'd prefer to see stick around. I'd like to see the writers channel the characters of JR and Sue Ellen Ewing and enthuse their traits into Brooke and Deacon. You know they're bad together but you can't keep your eyes off them. But they have to give Deacon something to do other than drifting from one residence to another.

The Forrester did the whole restraining order on Sheila when she returned this time around. But they couldn't force Finn to be included in it. It fizzled out into nothing. In regards to Sheila, I don't know just how silly they can make Finn. A doctor, a seemingly smart guy who is in love with his wife and has a loving mother already can't see straight when it comes to his birth mother. What's wrong with him?

I'll give them (writers) points for trying but there is zero chemistry between Thorsten and Katherine. Unfortunately for Thorsten another actor played the role of Ridge for 25 years. Why would you even think of recasting such an iconic character? The heart and soul was ripped out of B&B when Susan and Ronn retired from the series.

I happened to catch an episode yesterday and once again that couple were back on again...Liam and Hope. Screen hogs. And for the love of God can the writers please make some attempt to have the characters working for a living? It's become a farce that everyone has all this time sitting around talking...and talking...and talking.
Once upon a time.... the show didn't revolve around Hope and Liam. I'm sure part of the reason Susan and Ronn left is because THEY were even talking about them constantly. I don't understand how this show is still #2 in the ratings.

Because it has Y&R as lead-in. After the Covid break, B&B was back three weeks earlier than Y&R with new episodes. In these three weeks, B&B had fewer viewers than ever before: an average of 2.1 million viewers. In the first week when Y&R came back with new episodes, B&B had hundreds of thousands more viewers. B&B always depended on Y&R. I'm pretty sure B&B would have been cancelled many years ago if it had to stand on it's own like the other three remaining soaps. When it comes to DVR viewing, streaming or readers polls B&B is always last place, even though it's no 2 in soap ratings. Obviously there are enough viewers who watch B&B live in the afternoon because there is nothing better on tv and not because they think it is good.

I think part of the reason it still does well is that it’s a 30 minute show. It takes much less effort to watch compared to the others and requires half the attention span

WOW!! I hate to say this.... I can't believe there is enough people watch, but IMO I would rather watch paint dry. To me that is more exciting than this. I started watching the show in August of 1988 and my last full episode was December 2012(first Christmas episode without Stephanie). I just can't stomach it.

B&B claims to be successful worldwide, but that's not true (anymore). In some countries B&B is doing alright, but only in Italy it is it still a hit. Last week the soap (which, by the way, has the same timeslot as in the US) saw 2.55 million viewers there, slightly fewer than in the US. B&B was Italy's number 1 show in the afternoon for decades, but now there are often other soaps that have even more viewers.
